OK, I hate intermittent problems and now I have one....

2001 Blast, about 2500 miles, bone stock except for some handlebars.

Bike has always started just fine.

Yesterday AM went for a short, maybe fifteen mile spin. Returned home and swapped out the non-stock bars for yet another set of non-stock bars.

Ready for my test ride but there is absolutely NO action when I hit the start button. Plenty of juice; signals, horn, high and low beam, brake lights front and rear, but NOTHING when I hit go. I toggle the kill switch, pump the clutch, try with kick stand up, kick stand down, neutral, clutch in and all the iterations I can think of. Nothing. Give up, go to bed.

This morning try again. Still nothing. Try this afternoon, fires right up. Runs strong and smooth, idles fine. (Side stand down, neutral, clutch pulled in...) Hit the kill and try again. Dead. Absolutely nothing.

Help. Please.

It would seem that when changing the bars you created the problem. Clutch safety switch,on/off run switch or starter button switch, loose, bad, disconnected.
Check connections.
If you know how to bypass the switches, try that.

I'm going out to the garage today, so unless somebody comes up with your fix, I'll try a few things out on my bike that may help you.

I would say if it doen't crank then it would be in the kill switch. Everything else will work with the kill switch in the off position. You must have messed up the switch when you put it back together.

Try switching out the neutral clutch circuit - see the TKV Procedures section in the engine section - to disable - easy to do, then if its not that then it is the kill switch pouched.

I agree that the problem is associated with one of the switches that I disturbed in the handlebar change.

I've had a few more successes starting. It seems to be the starter button acting intermittently.

It seems to be the starter button acting intermittently.

I had a very similar sounding problem with my M2. Sometimes you would press the starter button and absolutly nothing would happen. You could diddle with things for a while and it would start working again.

It turned out to be the contacts of the starter switch. When you press the button, it presses two metal pieces together. If you take the assembly apart, it's easy to see them. Mine had corrosion between them which kept the connection from getting made. Sanding off the contacts fixed the problem.
