Changed the plugs on my stock 04' XB12S last night. Plugs have 6500 miles on them. The front plug looked black and sooty with crusty carbon deposits on one side of the little bar that extends over the electrode. There was also oily residue on the threads near the top of the threads. The Rear plug looked perfect. I had noticed a decrease in performance. Bike runs great now. Stock plugs. Any thoughts? |

hmmm.... not sure i just ran into this with my2003 xb9r. Except the front plug looked perfect and the rear had black deposits on it but no buildup of any carbon. Also noticed last night the exhaust pipe that comes out of the rear cylinder was turning cherry red right where it comes out of the head. type this into a search engine like yahoo.com or google.com....."motorcycle spark plug black sooty" You'll get tons of hits on reading your plugs. I checked mine today and the front one looks perfect but the back one looks alittle lean. How can we adjust for this with the stock set-up? |

I have a cheese grated airbox, K&N filter, and modified stock exhaust would the TFI or Race ECM help get the back cylinder running good? |

Rubberdown I had EXACTLY the same appearance with my plug change at 5000 miles or so! The front one had the oil thing going on at the very base of the threads also. I wonder what the oil is from? |
