Has anyone converted their headlights to HIDs? If so what kit did you use and where did you mount the ballast. I found this kit from a dealer in canada. http://www.xenondepot.com/category.php?category_id=10   It's supposed to be plug and play and the ballast looks small enough to fit behind the fly screen. I'm waiting for a return email with the actual dimensions of the ballast. | ||

No, you would actually need 2 set if you wanted the low and a high beams. I was just thinking of purchasing 1 for the low beam. | ||

update... I got a response from my email. The ballast is actually 4"x3"x1", the igniter is 1.5"x1"x1"and there is about 6' of cable.  Thanks to BadS1, I think I found a good location for the ballast. I can now remove the EXUP servo motor and position ballast there. Also, there will be more than enough cable to run to the front. Now I just have to find the $200. | ||

I was informed that it was illegal to install after market HIDs on vehicles - only way to get them legally is if they are OE. Even so, I'd probably install them if they price was affordable, love them on my car. | ||

$199 for the motorcycle kit is a steal...who would need a highbeam on an XB with those? And no more "you have a headlight out" Just be certain to aim them so you aren't blinding everyone... | ||

Joele: You are correct. From the same site: Are these XENON HID light systems street legal? Every jurisdiction has its own rules and regulations governing the use of automotive lighting. XENON HID lighting systems that are supplied with the vehicles from the factory are DOT approved. NO XENON HID conversion kit available from any source is DOT approved if installed outside of the factory. Moreover, in the U.S, this is not street legal for use on public roads. As a result, we officially endorse the kit for exhibition and off-road use and will only sell the kit to be used for these purposes. We are not responsible for buyers who violate the terms of sale while in which they will assume all responsibilities for any unauthorized or unintended use other than exhibition or off-road use. Our DOT approved line of HID products are completely street legal and are S.A.E approved. | ||

Have there been any issues regarding heat? I have heard of a few instances in autos where the original housing was damaged due to increased heat from HID's. | ||

i am running the XENONDEPOT H7 kit in the low beam housing of my Lightning. very nice light output. not purple at all. i wired to a vacant fuse position in fuse box, so that the lo beam is on and STAYS on when engine is running. so, again, the low beam is HID and STAYS ON, regardless of the high beam switch. so far no problems, the low beam is just a bit more light than the high beam and PIAA auxilliary lights COMBINED. very much worth a couple bills, if you ride at night. |
