Well you guys are not gonna believe this but,
I was on my way home for lunch and I got rear-ended by a car while stopped at a yield sign!!!
The driver did not realize that I had stopped to yield to incoming traffic. My rear tire received the brunt of the impact. What do you guys think is the potential for structural damage to the rear axle and oil reservoir in the swingarm? This sucks. I have not even finished breaking in the bike.

Same thing happened to me only at a stop light, Dude fell a sleep behind me and drove right into me as I was taking off. At first I thought I had popped the clutch, then realized I hadn't popped a clutch in years and looked behind me to see a bumper. As far as damage went to mine it was very minimal, bent the reflector on the plate up and that was it. I had the dealer look at it. Didn't bother to file a report, Dude was a fellow Jarhead (Sgt) So I just chewed his azz real good, If he had caused me to drop my bike I would have pulled his dumbazz out of the car and kicked the Shint out of him.

Glad your ok.

Police report? Whoops! No I didn't get one. A police officer came by and talked to us but she didn't mention anything about that. She just said we needed to exchange info and that was it. Way to go Oakland PD. Once more looking out for the citizen! : ( On the other hand there is no visible damage on the bike but I'm just worried that the axle may have sustained some kind of damage. I could just screeeeammm right now!!!

If it didn't pop the tire then I would say that you are ok.

You might want to look into Signal Dynamics "BACK OFF" brake light module. Got one on all my bikes and it keeps cagers away from my tail. It's one of the few things you buy that does what they claim it will do.

Call the other party's insurance ASAP if you have not done so already. At least get your story in. But what are the chances of people in Oakland driving with insurance.... (hope that person has valid insurance).

One thing you might want to look at before you ride it again is the rear isolator mount. It bolts to the top of the transmission case with 4 allen head cap screws and has a ~4" diameter rubber donut on top that secures to a bracket on the frame with a transverse bolt. It's kind of "buried" up in there so you may have to look hard to see it. U4euh (ditch digger) broke his when his bike took a hard lick during a lowside/spin/sudden stop at March Badness a few weeks back. Relatively inexpensive part but difficult to replace, at least for a team of amateurs working in the dark with borrowed tools and no shop manual.

This piece may have taken a pretty good lick with your bike getting rear-ended like that.
