I have a 00M2 I have V&H exhaust, X-1 cams, dyno jet kit running a 48 slow jet and a 190 main, K&N filter. I have not had a chance to put it on the dyno due to the weather but I was wondering if any one out there has a similar set up or what I'm really getting at does anyone have any idea what kind of pony's I'm pulling. just wondering? |

Properly tuned, I'd expect anywhere from mid-80's to low 90's. The only thing you've done that will really help the top end power is the cams. |

You were right again, Aaron. Was trying to scan dyno sheets but the copy was real bad-95 S2, 42 mikuni, open s/t w/16 discs, stock header,SE2 cams, T/S heads/pistons/thin gaskets- Run 1: 82.9hp, 73.6 torque, BIG drop @ 5800- Run 14:94.5hp,78.4 torque- Still. torque peak @4500, hp peak @ 5800. i think the next 12 hp will cost a lot more than $140- Clay |

Firemanjim, You say you had Sifton cams? I bought a set from them and got took. It seemed they were changing owners. The first set they sent me was way to tight in the cases. Just wondered if you had any problems with them. When I sent them back for different gears they kept them and my money!! So I now have Andrews N-6's and love them in my '01 even though I only have about 10 miles on them. Thanks Ryan |

Help. I recently dynoed my 2000 M2 with following mods: Vance & Hines SS2R, Thunderslide Jet Kit, Pro Series Air Box with K&N Filter. I only got about 70 rwhp and 70 ft/lbs torque at the rear wheel with a significant dip at the low end. Has the Vance & Hines been a notorious power-sapper? I'm considering a Force Streetfighter. Thanks in advance. |

Did you tune it? i.e. set the timing & jetting on the dyno? The V&H does not sap power. My wife's near-stock S1 makes 96rwhp with one. Tuning is critical. Bring it over. |

Got mine last winter '00-01. I had a local shop do several computer dyno runs and they (Sifton) made the best torque for my app. and only lost 2 hp on top but only if they would have worked in my covers and Sifton wouldn't have ripped me off! Thanks Ryan |

Aaron, have not had it tuned; can I really expect that substantial a power increase (96rwhp)? Considering having the heads ported and polished, changing the cams and installing an oil cooler. Do you have any advice as to whether I would be better off just buying Nallins heads or having the stock heads worked on? Thanks in advance. |

Doc: The S1 referenced has the bigger "Lightning" cams and a Mikuni carb, so it's not a fair comparison to your bike. I was just pointing out that the V&H is likely not your problem. A bone stock '99 or later M2 generally has mid-70's for peak hp, plus or minus say 3-4hp. The mods you have listed are not known for adding a lot of top end power. The air cleaner might add a tad is all. The muffler is a mid-range thing, sometimes they even take back the tad that the air cleaner added on top. Bottom line, it sounds like something you did went backwards. It ain't the muffler or the air cleaner. Fuel mixture and venturi size have a HUGE effect on the power of a motor. You made a change that goes right to the heart of both of those things. Hmm. I've also seen bikes that had their timing a mile off as delivered from the factory. Ask Don. But I've also seen many bikes that were spot on. Will a good dyno tune find 5 more hp? I can tell you that it's RARE that I don't find at least 5hp on the average modified-but-undynotuned bike. 10 is not unusual at all. I'd sure as hell tune it before I went and spent more money on fancier parts. In fact, if I still had a disappointing result after tuning it, I'd start backing out some of the parts I put in there, and you know exactly where I'd start. Then, once you know what you're truly getting out of your current package, if you still want more then formulate a plan. A guy like Brian Nallin is a terrific resource for this, he'll work to understand your goals and recommend a combination. There are all kinds of trade-offs to consider. But I guarantee you, Brian doesn't even want you to use his stuff unless you're willing to tune it. That's a recipe for a disappointed customer. Best of luck, AW |

Doc: What Aaron said! I had done the bolt ons (Mikuni, Force Sidewinder, Westek exhaust) and done a sotp rejetting and the first dyno pull was VERY dissappointing. Aaron found 9 more HP and a bunch more torque just waiting to be had in the timing. He knows of what he speaks. Don |

Aaron: Could obstruction by poorly installed exhaust header bushings significantly hurt top end? Have you seen this on any of your Buells? |

I assume you're talking about exhaust port gaskets? I haven't specifically tested for it. Sure seems like it could, though. Those factory gaskets tend to overhand the port quite a bit. |

Yeah, "gaskets". Just saw a post by Henrik saying that the new style prevents teh risk of such an obstruction. |

Thanks Aaron and Doncasto. I will have it Dyno-tuned before making any other mods. |

Blake: I'd probably stick to my original statement that these gaskets could "lessen the risk" of the gaskets protruding. Entirely prevent ... everything is possible :-) I once saw an article in and old HD mag, where they found part of one gasket almost entirely squeezed into the port. They replaced the gasket and found some more power. Can't remember numbers, but when my local independent HD shop started carrying these gasket I jumped on the bandwagon, and they've worked well so far. No leaks, and when I replace the gaskets, the used gaskets are found in place and where they're supposed to be. This is of course only anecdotal "evidence", but it seems to make sense to me. I could spend all day looking through archives but I don't have the time. I've been having problems with my '98 S3T running to rich. Now for the specifics: My elevation is about 1000ft. I have a SuperTrapp IDS with 15 discs, a K&N filter (gutter airbox) and DynoJet kit in the carb. I've brought the main jet to 195 with a 45 slow jet and fuel mixture out 2 1/2 turns from set. Still to rich!!! Is there anyone running the same for very similar set-up? Thanks for the help, Mennis |

Where are you running rich (low, mid, or high/WOT). Two simple ideas you could try... Try a 190 main jet. If your needle is shimmed, remove the shim. How is your timing? Try advancing/retarding to see its effect. |

I've gradually been upgrading my 2001 -listed; it's actually a 2000 racing stripe- x1. After running a Scorpion steel muffler and race ECM, due to breakage of the mounting, I replaced it with a complete pro-series system. Though this system has been of dramatic influence, I reckon a 10-15% increase in overall power, top speed seems to have lessened. I must admit I haven't installed any other airfilter than the stock one. Can't imagine this should "rob" the bike of top speed, though. Is it likely that not tuning in the sum of components is the cause of this? Curious, |

Redstripe: I gotta ask the nagging question... After installation of the race ECM, did you have the ECM calibrated with the throttle position sensor? If not, that is most likely the reason for your top speed shortfall. |

Blake, The ECM and exhaust were installed by Stan van Noort. He's the no.1 dealer in the Netherlands. -not that that should guarantee anything- So I, perhaps foolishly, reckon he did... He is the guy though that disagreed on the need for the "for race use only" ECM after fitting the pro series. |

Hmmm. Yeah, it might be a VERY good idea to ask your service tech to recalibrate your ECM/TPS for the throttle fully closed (read idle screw fully disengaged) position. I have come to learn that admirable sales records do not always guarantee competence in the service department. |

Just had my TPS and Cam sensor adjusted. Here's a before and after dyno pull. 2001 X1 3200 miles, race ECM, gutted air box, kooks header...BTW, Bergen Harley/Buell of NJ is now serious about Buells.

Looking very good indeed; seems a thourough adjustment is in place. I'll have to have it done, and have the airbox gutted. It's still in original condition. Also, I have sought contact with H-D Benelux because of a high oil-usage. The x1 is now using 1 litre in 2000 kms, that seems a bit steep. -14 months/13.500 kms- I know of three guys that had it done, presumably because of bad cilinder machining at the factory. H-D gave me a very strange reaction indeed; Because of bad experiences, I summed everything up and faxed it over to them with a cc to the dealers'. They called me back in about 30 minutes and their reaction was agitated; a mr. Andersen of the aftermarket department said the fact I had called this a "problem" resented him. Harleys didn't have any problems. Telling him I already knew of three people that had the cilinders and pistons renewed because of this problem didn't make him a happier man, and I expect we are friends no longer. As expected I'd have to be in contact with the dealers' and see that they checked things. My reply was that I already did and sent them the fax in order to be informed. I'll keep You posted, Jilles. |

Does anyone out there have info on the power increase for the complete factory race kit on a DDFI system? I just ordered one and haven't seen any numbers on HP or torque. |
