Saturday I finally had a chance to put a few miles on my XB9S. It was the most pleasant motorcycle ride I can remember. I only had time for about 60 miles or so, didn't go over 65 mph, and spent about 20 or so miles on single lane, crumbling asphalt backroads (30-40 mph). I especially noticed the lack of drivetrain slack; the torque of the V-twin and corresponding lack of shifting; and the great exhaust note when rolling on the throttle from low revs. The handling is almost like a dirt bike on the rough backroads. The suspension is excellent. I've ridden it enough to start trusting the traction in the corners. Though at this point I can't IMAGINE ever touching hardware to the pavement on a public road. I was truly sorry when it was time to head for home. I kept thinking I wish I'd had one of these when I was younger, instead of the Japanese inline 4's. Thanks to Erik and the Buell team that is responsible for these bikes. Great job! Bill |
