Performance Mods!: | S2: Came with Supertrapp installed. Upped the disc count & gained significant grunt everywhere on the stock S2 mill. 2000 Blast: Just playing with pipes. S1 Bars. Bikemaster oval mirrors. 2002 Blast: Pro Series intake & exhaust, Dial-A-Jet install which necessitated substantially different jetting FXD - V&H pipes & minor jetting |
Problems/Miles (Please be specific): | S2: Sticky QS throttle. 2000 Blast - This thing was beaten on when I took ownership of it in Feb of 2004. It had odd clutch behavior, mis-torqued isolator bolts, overfilled primary or shot crank oil seal (not sure which), and a number of poor repairs done by folks with no respect for themselves or their vehicles. The speedo sometimes doesn't work requiring a power cycle of the bike's (or speedo's?) electrical system. Then everything's peachy. 2001 Blast (long since taken back) - Around 450 miles original engine dropped a valve (valve broke @ retaining groove). Required new top end - and something else the dealer missed. Got the bike back and the motor got REALLY noisy on the first ride. Engine #2 installed. Factory screwed up and put wife's VIN on my motor (both bikes are in her name). Factory decided they'd send me another motor with the right number. RIGHT before I had to take the bike in for the 3rd motor, I found out the hard way that the dealer hadn't tightened the bolt that holds the front / upper isolator to the head. Head threads trashed. Along the way, SOMEONE at the dealership swapped my mirrors with some HIGHLY USED ones. The 3rd motor arrived WITHOUT one of the case through bolts. A couple of other bolts weren't tightened down properly by the dealer. More minor dealer induced niggles and a final broken isolator bolt in late Dec '01. Asked dealer for new bike. Got it a week later. '02 Blast - At 2200 miles it suffered that inevitable rocker gasket leak. My 02 was assembled with paper at the factory. Also had a valve guide seal go bad. There is an odd fuel tank vent / evap system anomaly (CA Blast) that causes fuel starvation due to vacuum in fuel tank when fuel levels drop to about 1/2 tank. Problem alleviated by disconnecting tank breather from charcoal can (which was swapped to no good affect). FXD - Appetite for stators. Neutral switch bad but the dealer doesn't think so. Rocker gaskets. |

Why I do/don't ride a Buell: | The S2 is freakin' ART. Blast was cheap and unique. I hope one day to add an S1 and an XB to the stable. |
