Performance Mods!: | None yet. Manually cleaned the carburetor and surrounding areas a few days ago, tweaked the idler screw, and it runs so much smoother now! Many more restorative upgrades to add. Update 6/7 - Late post but I don't log in enough, I tuned my carburetor! This thing is a BEAST!! It has more speed and engine to give me, I said no this is going too fast, we're cool as we are, time to relax now... but WOW can this thing move! (I had to drill out that oddly placed soft metal with a screw extractor after drilling it with a lil matrix battery drill BY HAND ( with me, i don't need no vise for that - sidenote: in case you weren't aware, I did not damage the actual mixture screw at all. I felt when it punched through the other side of the metal and went on to the next step. Done.) Put some fresh brake fluid in, front and rear, cleaned out the front master cylinder (which was filthy for some reason), put in the speedbleeders on front and rear, bled the brakes, put new pads on the front and rear, replaced the drive belt!(because mine snapped as I sat still in a quick ride out to work in the morning... AFTER a successful test ride the night before.. (smh) added an in-line fuel filter replaced the air filter (old smoky lung vs fresh lung) retuned the idler screw on the carb to help the tune run that much better (damn I feel good about that work) LIFTED THE FRONT END BY SUSPENDING IT IN THE AIR SINCE I HAVE squat ELSE to MAKE IT WORK and replacing my front tire(had a shop do that, but the hard part was the wheel being off the ground without needing the front end stands in use at the same time... it was a feat of engineering, I tell you.) Added some flush mounted turn signals (because I don't want them to break when the bike tips over) fixed my rear taillight not working properly (electrical connection needed some coercion).... Oh and I did put a new spark plug in there too. A nice iridium. Looks beautiful by comparison to the old janky mess that used to be in there. I like this bike a lot! This will most likely be a part of a longer post. Thanks for reading! |
Problems/Miles (Please be specific): | Miles: over 10,000. Carb needed cleaning, that is now DONE; Front tire will be replaced to match new rear tire (which was urgently needed) - Treads are still okay;DONE Air filter needs replacing;DONE Spark Plug upgrade coming;DONE Air Box needs replacing; Vehicle Speed Sensor; Brake pads; DONE Brake bleeder screws (speedbleeders);DONE A couple manifold couplers; A tall seat; lower fork reflectors; a better led taillight; recommended turn signals that dont shake off of the bike;DONE a better intake mod (i know theyre out there, i've read up on some); that v&h exhaust ***a solution for front fork oil/sealing/cleaning/operation*** |
Other Mods/Misc/Customization.: | all above problems will become upgraded by the very nature of my repairs. |
Favorite Rides (Roads and Routes): | Back roads. The highway is full of crazy and stupid drivers. |
Why I do/don't ride a Buell: | I ride a Buell because I saw an XB9R in a parking lot and instantly became infatuated with Buell motorcycles. I was able to get a Blast and I have been looking forward to riding it at every reasonable occasion. Next one I want is the 1125CR. And then the 1190 AX if/when it comes out. I bet it's a dual-sport with ABS. |
How can Buell improve their motorcycles?: | Freaking saddlebags for a Buell, man. I'll make what I can get. |
Life History/Philosophy: | I am everything in the universe. Motorcycling is my favorite way to explore the world around me quickly and in an active fashion. It's amazing. It helped raise me out of a serious depressive phase, and I have been on the up and up since! My first bike IS this Buell Blast! I was never a big fan of the harley choppers, super sport bikes or anything like that, but the idea of motorcycling appealed to me. ROAD RASH 64 was a great primer....!!! |
Top speed on 2 wheels (mph): | ~90? not actually sure. It felt fast! |
Preferred engine oil (brand/grade): | Full Synthetic |
What makes you get up in the morning?: | Being able to make things happen. |
Preferred Learning Style?: | Kinesthetic & Visual. Show me the images in the manual, expanded detail view and all, then list the steps, arduous detail or not. Then, back up - I got this. |
