Problems/Miles (Please be specific): | '95 S2 at 50k kms has been one of the most reliable bikes I've owned. Replaced a starter relay at 30k kms. That's it. '96 S1 sheared head/isolator bolts. Simple repair in the garage. The bike got tracked regularly and went 45k miles without any major issues. Sold it with the original drivebelt still in place. '98 S3T ate a couple of speedo drive tabs (PM wheels). Simple mod sorted it for good. '97 S3T sheared a front isolator mount bolt and broke the mount. |
Other Mods/Misc/Customization.: | '96 S1: Corbin saddle, Karyakin breather, taller gears (29/61), clip-on bars, 500ml high-tech custom catch can (Grolsch). '95 S2: Corbin saddle, "Warm-Fit" handgrip heaters, S2T saddle bags and mounts. S3T: Corbin saddle, engine breather catch bottle. '98 S1: Corbin saddle, bar-end mirrors |
Favorite Rides (Roads and Routes): | Canada, USA, Japan, Nepal... Hard to say. |
Why I do/don't ride a Buell: | Enjoy chassis competence and suspension quality over absolute power... Buells are a nice combination of all three. Love the raw, poke-in-the-eye styling of the S1 and the flowing, sculpted lines of the S2. With a little mechanical sympathy these motors stand up just fine. S2 and S3's make great touring bikes. Comfortable ergos, excellent suspension, good range, lively performance and fabulous handling. Enjoying the Ulysses refinement. Everything I've appreciated about earlier Buells (suspension quality, chassis prowess and useful power) but now with comfortable ergos for two and civilised amenities (excellent luggage, power sockets and heated grips). |
How can Buell improve their motorcycles?: | Looking forward to the EBR Adventure bike. |
Life History/Philosophy: | "Well, Sergeant, specifically of course we can know nothing - unqualified - but like the rest of us, I've fenced my life with a scaffolding of more or less speculative hypotheses." -T.E. Lawrence. |
