Bike Model (Ex - M2, XB12Rr, S1W, P3): | XB12X, XB9SX, (M2), (XB12STT) |
Model Year (Please enter full 4-digit year): | 2008, 2006, (2000), (2007) |
Color: | Uly stock Red plastics, CityX orange, black and nuclear blue, (M2 - Bullet Silver & black), (TT - white) |
V.I.N. (To aid in problem resolution. Will not be displayed or shared otherwise.) : | (Hidden) |
Servicing Dealership: | Self, but occasionally H-D/Buell of Salt Lake |
Performance Mods!: | Uly- IDS programed ecm for stock muffler with K&N, Baker windscreen brackets and tail tray, Braking wave rear rotor, EBR front rotor hardware & EBC rotor, aaand brighter led light bulbs. CityX - Factory race ecm, K&N, Jardine (I know) and a factory race muffler waiting for the Jardine to blow up... led headlight bulbs and turn signals. (M2 - Bartels intake, 45HD and 200 Dynojet, Supertrapp (19 disks w/closed endcap), X1 forks with Buell race springs, Recall shock rebuilt by Aftershocks Aug 2007 - replaced with Works Performance Sept/Oct 2012, Buell M2 race ignition, bronze oil pump drive gear. S1 tail and cut down seat make moving around on the bike (track and canyons) a lot easier). (TT - No performance mods) |
Problems/Miles (Please be specific): | Uly - Dead heated grips, occasional mystery electrical drain. CityX - apparently these bikes crash and stuff... actually it seems to have ridden fine when I bought it to rebuild... needed a battery <shrug> (M2 - Bottom nut on rear header keeps shaking loose. Bad seals on recall shock found when replacing the bad isolators at 15,000 miles. All three iso's done. 19K sucked one of the airbox mounting screws into the front cyl = bent valve + mushed piston = top end rebuild. Cams were showing a lot of wear, replaced with stock profile cams. ~25K Clutch hub is notched up, causing plates to hang up and engage poorly. Primary side crank main seal is bad. Fixed Oct/Nov 2012). (TT - TPS reset and #'s zeroed out at 4K miles, seemed to smooth the bike out for a while. 4650 - burned fuse for exhaust valve. 6400~ leaking rocker boxes shut down fan. Cleaned up fan and replaced rocker gaskets, ran it out of gas... TPS and AFV need reset. ECMSpy is a pain to obtain... repair still pending, cannot ride bike. EffenEFI BS. 6499 - Bike has coughed up whatever it was choking on in the fuel system. ECM Data reads okay. Now running fine, aside from the 2800-3K stumble it came with... 6700 Bike is not running, seems the injectors are bad? Too bad UT dealership cannot get parts. Injectors rebuilt locally and work now. This bike does not tolerate [foolishly mandated] ethanol mixed gas!) |
Other Mods/Misc/Customization.: | Custom seat cover to match plastics, stock Uly windscreen on the Baker brackets, Baker handguard extenders, black vinyl race stripes, bungee net =], rear brake and shifter are Knight Design parts. CityX - custom seat cover and slight foam mod underneath it. This one is kind of an S1 tribute bike, so Nuke Blue Wheels and some of the other parts including the Y bracket sub-frame, bright orange paint with early raised white tank lettering and carbon rear fender and tail bits like the plate mount. (M2 - Banke footpeg relocaters; X1 dash and flyscreen, LP cf inner fender & Buell cf lower belt guard and front fender, millennium footpegs, home made stainless shifter peg on a modified, polished upgrade X1 shifter kit. Polished stock headers and Supertrapp. Updated front exhaust hanger. Stainless rear brakeline. Polished triple clamps, S1 tail. CNC Alum bar clamp, Crossroads S1W "clip on" bars (bead blasted), 1" risers under the bars. XB rocker covers for better breather routing, Muller style clutch ramp. '98 S3T fuel tank. Custom S1 seat. Trimmed cam cover. Front pulley cover from A.S.B. M2 tach). (STT - Heated grips and vest wiring, cut down SS seat for two up riding, Laminar Lip wind screen, and misc super-reflecto-tape to assist with visibility. Late model clear (incandescent bulb) turn signals). |
Favorite Rides (Roads and Routes): | Miller Motor Sports Park, Big Cottonwood Canyon is fun too. |
Why I do/don't ride a Buell: | It's a visceral experience - I like the way the M2 shakes, the TT was sooo smooth in comparison =) |
How can Buell improve their motorcycles?: | ...helmet locks sure would have been nice... AND finally they appear on the ULY!! |
Life History/Philosophy: | I like a p.b.& j. sandwich and a glass of milk on Sunday afternoons. |
Top speed on 2 wheels (mph): | 150ish (1125R on the track) |
Preferred engine oil (brand/grade): | Synthetics are fantastic! |
Tires: | Uly runs Scorpion Trails in stock size, CityX Conti-Motion, M2 use list as follows: May 2016 Battleaxe T30's (Bridgestone sport touring tires), Sept '11 Dunlop D207's, stock sizes. Aug '08 Pirelli Scorpion Syncs (180 on the back); (June '06) Continental Road Attack, stock sizes, D205's from 2000-06. |
