Servicing Dealership: | No dealerships left around here. |
Performance Mods!: | Performance "mods"? Not really added much but they came with the bike! K&N air filter with carbon fiber cover. Buell "race" Zorst, Buell "race" ECM. |
Problems/Miles (Please be specific): | New bike to me. I bought it with some issues. |
Other Mods/Misc/Customization.: | Shaved down entire seat and recovered it to accommodate my being a shorter pilot. |
Favorite Rides (Roads and Routes): | Almost anywhere as long as it does not involve driving in a city. |
Why I do/don't ride a Buell: | I have always liked Buells, but now owning one and the more I learn about them, the more I realize why they are no longer around. I am mostly retired and have a small workshop and always have a bike or four in there. The Buell just added more variety! Buell's obsession with putting brass threaded tubing inside rubber O-rings then using a stainless bolts, highlights his design limitations. His use of imperial and metric nuts (rear stop/tail light securing nuts are 10mm f'rinstance) makes me think he built this cyclone in a shed from whatever was lying around. The front brake light switch dangling below the brake lever with spade terminals exposed to the weather.....servicing a carbratooter through a tubular steel triangular frame is unforgivable. Don't get me wrong, I like the Buell, but with a little extra effort and an understanding of service needs and people who actually ride in rain, he could have had a great bike. Instead he has one with what fools call "character". |
How can Buell improve their motorcycles?: | They could have done much better it seems after reading so many past complaints. It seems their QA barely existed. As an Electrical Engineer I find it strange that Buell chose the cheapest nastiest connectors on the planet just to save a maybe $100. Check out the headlamp cluster oil/high beam, neutral lamps etc, or try accessing the side stand switch connector where the wires are *just* long enough to connect it during manufacture. Given time I will have discarded or replaced all the cheapo connectors. |
Life History/Philosophy: | Military contractor (engineer). "Do unto others as they would do unto you, only do it first". |
Top speed on 2 wheels (mph): | 156 m.p.h. Isle of Man Mad Sunday. Confirmed by local police... |
Preferred engine oil (brand/grade): | Castrol or Mobil. Grade depends on too many variables to have a "preferred grade". |
