HI all I'm Kelly and I live in Texas..I have two Buells a S-2 1995 and a 1998 S-1, and since parts have been getting hard to find I live on Ebay getting more for them..lol There are a few Buell riders i know here and Texas and we get toether ever so often to ride..I have my buells since they where new. gotta love them.. | ||

Hello All, I'm glad to be back in the Buell fold after a 5 year hiatus. I used to ride a 97 Cyclone (I sold it in 2000) but I gave up riding for a few years in 2002, however, I just couldn't resist the 2-wheel call. I picked up a 2005 XB12S last week and I am having the time of my life. Of course I'm taking it easy the next month or so as I get used to leaning all over again.  I met a few of you when I had my M2 Cyclone during a few rides down in the Oakland and Pleasanton areas. I look forward to participating in upcoming rides (even if I will be the one bringing up the rear  ). | ||

I'd be interested to hear your take on how the XB compares to the '97 "tubester". I'm sure you're already familiar with the North Bay twisties, so if you plan to come this way, perhaps we could meet at Vallejo HD/Buell, or somewhere convenient for you. | ||

Hello, all. I'm writing to you from Comox, on Vancouver Island. I have been following your site for about a month now, and am very impressed with its lay-out and the discussions I've read. As an early fifty something former rider, I've been thinking seriously about getting back into the saddle. Initially I was leaning towards a Japanese or British bike, and have to admit that I don't see myself as a Harley rider. However, I now have some arthritis in my hips, and can no longer ride some of the sport-oriented bikes on which you have to spread your knees quite a bit to clear the fuel tank. In trying various bikes for fit, I was rather surprised that I could sit astride one of the old Buell tube frame S3T's with reasonable comfort. Furthermore, the more I looked at Buell's, the more intriguing they became to me - both as elegant engineering solutions to real world motorcycling problems and as somewhat quirky and unusual rides compared to most of what I see on the highways today. I am currently (but at this time with a decided lack of urgency due to the weather) looking for a bike, but have not yet made up my mind as to whether a 2000-2002 S3T or M2, or a newer Lightning (I have to try one for fit first). I wil probably look south of the border, as they are enough cheaper in the US than in Canada to make the effort worthwhile. Any advice about model choices, things to look out for, etc. would be appreciated. I am in process of getting registered as a site user. In the interim, I thought I might as well post this. Bill, Welcome. In the StormFronts section of the site here there is a fairly active group of current and former Buell owners down around Seattle and Portland plus some from Vancouver, once you get registered you might want to pop in there and say howdy as well. For bikes, try to see if you can find an "older" 1997 model of M2 or S1 to sit on or an earlier S3 with the narrow seat. The narrower seat makes the bike feel narrower (go figure  ), and also due to that also makes the seat feel lower. Also see if you can find a 1995-1996 S2 or S2T to test sit on as well, again a totally different feel. As far as getting one in the States and bringing it in to B.C., Newfie (he's over in Newfoundland) has found that the earlier Buells have some issue with importation regulations, so check on any problems before you convert your money into title. Anyway, welcome to the site here. I'm over here in Wisconsin, but I grew up around Seattle and have been to B.C. a number of times. I hope to get my wife out to see Vancouver Island one of these years, a very nice location that you live in there. Take care, MikeJ. | ||

Hi Bill, I can relate somewhat to your drive to get back into the saddle, as I was mid-50's when the desire hit heavily to ride again. In '01, I test rode most everything out there in sport, sport touring, and "nakeds". Lotsa nice bikes to choose from, but nothing really grabbed me until an '01 M2 showed up in the local paper, and the seller encouraged me to try it out. Firing it up, I was shocked at amount of vibration at idle. It seemed like the engine was trying to jump out of the frame! Disapointment began to creep over me as I selected 1st gear and rode slowly out of the neighborhood. Pulling on to the main road, I rolled the throttle on and all of a sudden I'm on whole different bike! Everything went smooth as the front end lofted a few inches and gently touched back down. Going through the gears, I broke into a smile, and uttered a loud "YES". Being a Harley rider in the 60's and 70's, and having road raced cars in the 80's and 90's, the Cyclone was the absolute best of both worlds. I've put over 40K mi on it in the last 3 yrs., which includes an average of 300mi of twisties in the North Bay area of S.F every available weekend, and several road trips a year to Oregon, So. California, and points in between. I, thus far, have done every repair for the usual Buell gremlins, several lowside crashes, and upgraded/improved parts. It's never been in a shop other than for dyno pulls! Sorry to go on and on about it, but actually there's much more to share with you, especially from others who know these bikes better than I. I recommend the '01-'02 M2's, as from what I've heard, they have most of the improvements over earlier models, and by far, the most comfortable seat and ergos. The very best to you in your choices, and may you totally enjoy your safe and spirited return to "the saddle". | ||

Perhaps the 121 from the 29, up to the 128, then west with options to L.B"essa, Chiles, Butts Cyn., Middletown, Anguin, etc., your choice. I love'm all! Unfortunatley, I'm taking off this Fri. morning with the "Muell" in the back of my S10 for a ride with old friends in the S.F. Valley. Be back Mon. pm. Mikej and Twisty_dan, Thank you both for very rapid and informative responses to my note. Great to see the sense of community this web-site fosters. In particular, thanks for all of the advice. Just to let you know my line of thought at this time - I am seriously considering either a late (2000-02) tube frame or perhaps a Lightning. I agree, Dan, that from what I have read and seen, the later tube frame models are likely to be more refined than earlier ones. That's not only important from the point of view of ergonomics and features, but in importing a bike into Canada that is less than 15 years old, all recalls must be done before it can be registered locally. The last two years, both the M2 and S3 had very few recalls I can verify. Furthermore, a lowering kit can still be obtained for both models, which might be worth checking out (I may not have mentioned that I am somewhat vertically challenged at 5'7" , although I am unclear as to what its installation will do to suspension travel and handling. Any comments on this? The other attractive aspect to both these bikes is that they have decent sized gas tanks. Some of the Vancouver Island roads have goodly stretches between communities. On the other hand, there's the Lightning. There is something about the look that I find oddly attractive, in a functional and quirky way. I also understand you can get one that is lower (the cg model), although you put up with a sacrifice of some suspension travel - again, I don't know what that does to handling. Dan, I'm not terribly worried about the vibration issue you've described. Everyone says the same thing about it, including salespeople I have talked to. My second bike was a 1972 BSA Victor Trail, based on the old B50 single cylinder (king of the vibrators). Anyways, I wanted to thank you both once again for your advice. Hey everyone, I met Jim Corso by chance one weekend at an atm when he pulled up as i was getting off of my 2000 x-1 and i was very suprised to see a man wearing a buell t-shirt in this small town of cottage grove where i now live. He was a great source of information as far as buell's go and now here i'am two months later finally making it to his web site. Before jim i only knew of one other person in the area with a buell and i have several questions so if anyone feels they can help i would greatly appreciate some help. I have wanted to get a cityX since the day I first saw one last year }and I finally picked up one here on the badweb via the classifieds. Austin Firefighter, living in Lockhart. Picked up a 2005 cityX with the K&N filter, frame pucks, dark horse sliders front and rear for $5000 so I am very thrilled to say the least. I've been thinkin' about getting a Buell for some time now, and, I believe, all of my efforts (and funds) will be directed towards that! And big ups to everyone who showed up yesterday (especially from afar) on a dismal lookin' day... though a bit chilly, the weather ended up co-operating w/us. Hi again, Bill, (Biobuell) Hey, I like your new username! I,m interested to know if there's some significance to this choice. Sorry it's taken awhile to respond, as I just returned from So. California (Northridge, in the San Fernando Valley) from a four day weekend with friends who ride there. I have to agree with you regarding the Lightning. It would be my choice if I was to upgrade into the "new" Buell. I am especially liking the "long" version, as it would be a tad more comfortable with the 2" longer wheelbase, only 1" shorter than the M2. I did notice that the pegs are a little farther up and back when I sat on it. I'm scraping the pegs occasionally on the M2 when needs be, so the "long" would eliminate that problem. Before I'd install a lowering kit and lose precious ride quality, I'd look into a "low" seat, which works well for a friend of mine about your height. Sorry, I have to roll out for now. Dan, Sorry to be slow on the response, but I have been on the road for the past week. I was thinking about why I chose the username - probably a combination of three factors - 1. I am a fisheries biologist by training 2. I have watched the development of the Buell motorcycle and the company as kind of an organic, evolutionary process. 3. Somewhere in the recesses of my mind, probably came up as a bad pun for "Buy a Buell", although that wasn't part of the conscious choice. Weather here is grim right now, so I don't have too much urgency in my search - wind at 40 knots, waves crashing on the shore across the road from the house, rain horizontal - typical northwest weather at this time of year. More I think about it, the more attracted I am to the new models - I can't quite afford a 2005-06, but I have seen some affordable 2003-04's on the net - but am still reluctant unless they are within driving distance for inspection. I really appreciate the advice you have given, and hope we have the opportunity to meet sometime in the future. Bill | ||

Hi Bill, Good to hear from you again. Your username makes perfect sense now. Good choice! Sorry your weather has deteriorated so badly. Do you get an occasional break at all, during the months ahead, to get in a "putt" for sanitys' sake? Good luck to you in your search for a "new" Buell. I'm still weighing the positive (and not so positive) features/benefits of my M2 vs. the Ully/Long models. Very difficult to leave simplicity/reliability/familiarity, for the style/high tech/unknowns in the new offerings. I'm very much looking forward to getting farther north in my travels next year. Perhaps, after you purchase a bike, we could meet half way between Northern CA, and Vancouver Island. Gotta great book on the best roads, eateries, and such, for this whole area. Stay dry!
