I've put about 300 miles on my 2015 1190SX and I've noticed a few rattles that are bothering me.

#1 The bodywork (sounds like on the left side) rattles really badly as I come up through lower RPMs. Anyone come up with some extra bracing or fasteners that can help this?

#2 When I'm cruising on the highway at and roll on the throttle I get a different rattle that sounds like it's coming from lower on the bike

#3 There's one more rattle that I hear from the bottom of the bike that sounds more like the chain

Any advice or solutions?

Check the lower left muffler mounting bolt. For the brief time i had an 1190, mine was loose. Seems to be the general area you are writing about.

Make SURE the chain is tight enough (google it or something). It needs to be much tighter than other chin drive bikes.

It can damage the swingarm if it's loose.

The firing pulses of the engine in the 3-4k rpm range can cause the chain to oscillate so much so that some body parts might vibrate in resonance causing the noise that you hear. It's nothing to worry about as long as the chain slack is adjusted to spec, but it's best to ride through that range as quickly as you can. ; )

Regarding the muffler mounting bolts, double check the bracket down where the swingarm mounts for cracked welds.

Any V-twin vibrates at a given rpm range. It is the nature of the beast. However, you should go over all the fasteners with a quality torque wrench to make sure they are tight. The funny thing about harmonic vibrations is they travel, so your sound may be emitting from a place other than where you think.

Thanks very much for the input. I'll certainly check the areas mentioned.

I rode the bike about 100 miles yesterday and paid close attention to the noises. There were certainly 3 distinct sounds.

I'm positive the first is the left fairing shaking. The right side has the coolant reservoir to brace it a bit which is why I'm guessing that side doesn't shake/rattle. I'm going to see if I can devise a brace for the left side.

The second noise could certainly be a heat shield. It sounds tinny. I'll check the area mentioned.

The third sound could definitely be the chain slapping. I just put a new chain on the bike with a new rear sprocket. I tensioned it to spec but I'll go over it again to make sure.

I'm happy there's a forum for these bikes as we're a pretty small community. Thanks all!

Soarer,

Did you have any luck with the low side fairing rattle? Im noticing the same thing on my 1190sx between 3500 and 4000 rpm.
