This was posted to Facebook by Dan Hurda earlier this week:
quote:1190 Starter Update Info! The manufacturer of the 1190 RX/SX starter made a quality improvement to the seal to address the water intrusion / corrosion issues many owners have been experiencing. The starter has a sticker with a date code on it formatted YYYY/MM/DD. The improvement was implemented on the lot with the date code 2014/07/29 Everything with that date code and newer had the improvement. See attached photo of the sticker. All new motorcycles are being built with starters with the improved seal and all service part orders are filled with starter with the improved seal. If you a have any questions please email tech@EBR.com do not ask them here.

That is good to know. My 2013/11/08 starter died, it has been holding up fine since rebuilding it but I've been avoiding rain and washing. I need to get off my ass and actually replace it. |

Can these numbers be read without parts removal on an SX? If not, what parts need to be removed? TIA, Al |

...man, how did I miss that! Thanks Hugh! Greest_lightnin, didn't take anything special. Metric & torx heads if I recall to remove the right side radiator fan shroud box. You don't have to disconnect the radiator cross over. I bit more on an RX to remove body work. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/713 493/768056.html?1451534607 DAve |

Thank you, Dave! I haven't been riding it if there's even the slightest chance of rain for just this reason. I'll check it out this weekend, fingers are crossed... Al |

We were trying to check the sticker on an 1190SX starter at BITA 6 yesterday. You can see part of it looking past the header but I couldn't see the complete date. It may be possible to read the date using a small inspection mirror. That'd save you the effort of starting disassembly just to check the date if you've already got the updated starter. |
