The AX will be a completely new motorcycle. It won’t be a simple variance of the RX and SX. A lot of work and investment needs to go into that. When is it coming? Hopefully someday. I have no direct answer for that, but we get that question all the time. I’d like to see it happen. This sums it up for me I'm in the market now and won't be waiting I guess. I was told last October at the AIM Expo that the AX would be out in 2014, now it's "hopefully someday" so I've been waiting a year for the AX hoping it would be a good two-up bike to replace my K1200S. Time to stop waiting and start shopping. |

It never hurts to shop, but I wouldn't necessarily take what he said as gospel. Maybe he's BS'ing to avoid tipping off the competition or something. I guess we'll find out in a in ~1-1/2 months. |

This is how I ended up with a BMW S1000rr. I got tired of them dragging their feet. |

So you think EBR is dragging their feet? You know nothing about how much time and effort and skill it takes to develop a "completely new motorcycle". Find one of the Hanlon brothers and ask how the new Excelsior is selling. Then go ask Motus how their bike is coming along. (Message edited by Crusty on August 31, 2014) |

You know nothing about how much time and effort and skill it takes to develop a "completely new motorcycle". I don't think any of us were expecting a "completely new motorcycle" for the AX before this interview. It had been strongly implied (if not outright stated) in several sources that the AX would be another variant of the 1190 platform, much like the Uly was a variant of the XB platform at Buell. Of course if Mr. Hoechst is accurate in his statements in the article, that means we really have NO idea what the AX will look like. V-twin? Fuel-in-frame? Sport tourer with some dirt capability or something more dirt-oriented? I guess we all have to wait some indeterminate time to find out. |

Diesel/electric hybrid would be cool. Doubles as a generator, long travel electronically adjustable suspension like my new Grand Cherokee...in-motion-switchable TC/ABS/power levels based on "road", "sport", "dirt", "mud", or "sand" settings...built in GPS...built in farkles (heated grips, clothing controller, aux lights, power outlets).... Ahh...the possibilities... |

I think the AX will have a retuned 1190 motor makes since to use the tooling you already have. I also think it will have a completely new frame with different geometry in the suspension system. I base this on the conversation I had at Luguna Seca and a lot of speculation on my part, but I was told "we need to build a world beater in the adventure category not just another adventure bike". Take what ever is best weather BMW or others that will be what it is. I bet it will not have a 17 inch front tire. |

I would rather see them take the time to "get it right" than rush the bike to market, just to get something out there. I believe there is going to be a lot riding on this bike, EBR must nail it. |

I guess "draggin their feet" may have been a little strong so I'll amend that to repeatedly pushing back the roll out date. |

Let's "imagineer" it right here: Not a different tune as much as a multi-tune. Programmed to judge terrain, traction, drift, and rider's desired movement. Very close to fly by wire results. GPS and mapping to be used in hyper mile per gallon mode to regulate throttle input based on upcoming changes in elevation, speed limits, and traffic requirements. An over abundance of electrical output. Possible front wheel drive to augment traction in situations that require it. Multi-fuel capability. Rear side luggage racks that fold to different positions for different loading requirements. ? |

I just wonder if the final product has been a moving target, given the fluid market and competition's offerings. I really do hope this is a worldbeater. EBR is garnering good reviews on the SX/RX bikes but needs a grand slam on the AX. And I need (heheh..."need") a new motorcycle. More and more, I keep turning over in my head how to graft my 1125CR and XB12X together into a true swiss-army-bike. But I also know enough to let those smarter than I figure out how to do it correctly! |
