With spring time also comes cleanup. We get a TON of pine needles and dead sticks from the towering trees that surround our house. I also trimmed up some trees and brush and had some slash to burn up. While I was at home for lunch yesterday the wife decided to burn some of it off. Here is a shot of the wife firing up the burn pit to get rid of some debris.
My Hot Mama

Dry pine needles tend to burn fast and hot. Look at the flame licking off this little burn pile. I bet FMJ would get a big stiffy looking at this.
Hot Fire

After lunch on my return trip to work I came across another sure sign of spring for the area. With the vast wheat fields in the area crop dusting is common place. This time of year you can hear them buzzing the local fields doing their jobs. This one just happened to be right off of I95. He made his own runway and has diesel and pesticides brought in by the truck load to his local strip.
The Plane

So that's spring time around my house. Now I need to find some free time for spring ridding, that's the kind of home work I really need!

Hey, I know that airstrip! I could have sworn that he retired after a crash about 7 years back, but I could be wrong (or he could have sold the strip and moved on). I got to take a ride in a crop duster when I was 13, and needless to say, it was a blast! Quite a roller coaster ride!

Hey, it's been a while since I posted anything about my hometown. Been busy with work and not doing enough ridding, shame on me! But Trixie and I took a little ride yesterday, Veterans Memorial Day, and I snapped a few pics along the way. Trixie is just getting back into the saddle after an accident two years ago. She must really love me to get over her fears and come join me on two wheels again.
We took a short trip about 50ish miles to the east of Moscow to a little town called Elk River. Stopped for lunch at the Elk River Cafe, sorry forgot to take a pic. Then visited one of their tourist attractions, Elk River Falls. The falls are located off of Highway 8 down a 2 mile stretch of gravel road. I am so proud of Trixie who was not only brave enough to go on a ride with me but she was also willing to ride down the gravel road. We parked our bikes at the picnic area and took the the trails to go see the falls. It was a bit deceptive how far away the falls were. We saw three signs about ¼ mile apart that all said the parking lot was 5/8 mile back, example below
Lying Signs
I think they did that so Trixie would keep going. These Idaho trails are fairly steep up and downs and she would have never stated down the trail if she knew how far it really was. But we made our way to the upper falls and were disappointed by the lack of, well falls. Here's a pic for ya,
Upper Elk River Falls
So I talked her into checking out the middle falls, which was a bit more fallish.
Middle Elk River Falls
There was no chance in helll that Trixie would hike down to the lower falls, so no pics of that one. In fact she was pretty pooped hiking out. Here is a pic of her telling me to screw the trail rules and go get her bike.
Tired Trixie
It was a much slower hike out than it was going in, but we made it. It felt good to get back in the wind and head for home. On the way through town we stopped by the cemetery where the VFW had put out some flags to honor the fallen veterans. I snapped a quick picture of the Buells then we headed for home.
Honor the Vets
We only put on 120 or so miles but it was great to have Trixie ridding along side me again. We'll do this again but I promise better pictures next time.

OK Shotgun,

Trixie and Spudman, We sure do miss you here in the Portland, Vancouver area. Great Pics! Saw the pic of the house, and you are right about the gravel. I guess I would just have to ride that 1/4 mile really slow. Take care. Will we be seeing you for SPLASH?

Nice to hear everyones enjoying the pics. I know they're not up to the quality of Pdxs3t or the quantity of FB, but I'm trying. It is VERY nice to have Trixie and her Blast thumping along with me again. She's still a bit hesitant, I thought we were going to be passed by a minivan leaving Elk River after lunch, oh the indignity. She has never been a speed demon, but she is getting back into the groove now. I know it probably scares the poop out of her, but she's doing it because she loves me, ya she's a keeper. We talked about SPLASH and are trying to work things out so we can attend, still a big maybe. It's raining today, but suppose to clear for the weekend. I'll post some pics of our buellin expeditions as they happen.

Spud, your pix put mine to shame. btw, as a favor to me, if TracieTrixie DOES make to SPLASH on her bike, wait 'til she's had a few tequilas and cigars on Friday afternoon at the park there in Woodland, then, in the most serious, frantic manner you can conjure up, come running up and tell her that someone just backed their car over her bike in the parking lot.

i'm *reasonably* certain she'll see the humor in this. : )

Jim and Ferris,

Your being way too kind, but it is good to know my photographic efforts are enjoyed. Jim, I really dig your work and your eye for just the right shot. And Ferris dude, you are so prolific with the camera I'm surprised you get any ride time in. But this is my favorite Ferris pic for a lot of different reasons, including the thumb.
SPLASH 03
Thanks for the encouragement guys, I'll keep them coming.

Haven't had to many riding adventures lately, but still felt the need to post some stuff that's been keeping me busy. The first part of this month was spent cleaning out some overgrowth from the yard before the fire season gets here and getting the house in shape for some guests. Guests like Fathers, Mothers, Brothers, Sisters ... because my youngest, Troy, managed to pull his F's up to D's and graduated high school on June 10th, yahoo.
The Graduate
He plans on attending the U of I this fall, until then he's just unemployed, crap! Although he did collect some applications and filled them out, he just hasn't turned them in, kind of like his homework. But after this summer he will be in the dorms and responsible for his own success in school, no more phone calls or letters from his teachers for us anymore.

The following weekend was Father's day. The family got me some nice things and treated me like a king all day. But the highlight was a visit from a Moose and her family.
Those are big babies
They stayed at the salt lick for a while. The babies kept trying to nurse, but mama moose would let out a groan and shake them away. Eventually they moved on to some of the wild roses we left after clearing out the overgrowth for a snack.
Eating some roses
So I have been doing some ridding, even if it's only to and from work. I did manage to hit a milestone on the bike yesterday, 35,000 miles.
35K Hard Miles
I know it doesn't seem like much, but for all the issues I've had, and the abuse I've given this bike, it amazes me that it's still running strong. Here is a pic of the old Buell, work horse, fun machine, stress relief, next to the peonies that just started blooming.
A few miles with lots of memories
Now that summer has arrived I need to get out and get some quality pics of the local roads for everyone to enjoy. Hope to post more of those real soon.

just remember spud..you're paying for school now..and f's dont cut it when u have to pay for it..lol..
but on his defense..it's alot easier to do homework when u dont have a teacher breathing down your neck if you dont have it..professors dont care either way..they look at it like "hey.it's his parents money"...
tell him good luck and give him a scare of paying for it himself if he fails.lol..prez

Thanks for the congrats everyone. And Loni, yes it was our baby who graduated, we are done! The oldest is living in Coeur d'Alene working for QWest by day and mixing sound for a local club on the weekends. The nest is almost empty.

Ferris - congrats to Brynn! yea I was a proud papa too.

Prez - Here's the deal I struck with the boy. Your grades (and attitude) suck! If you want to go to college you pay for the first year. If you can keep a 3.0 GPA I'll pay for the rest. His first year will be cheapish. Moscow graduates have their first year tuition for the U of I paid by a grant. He will however need to cover his dorm fees because he ain't living at my house after this summer.
