somewhere in the general vicinity of Posey and Balance Rock, CA. the locals told us that the night before everything had been blanketed in a fresh 8" of snow, but the relative balminess of this day was dispatching the white stuff with great haste. ...are payin' the price. as we climbed it got colder, and bare turned to wet turned to slush, all mixed with copious amounts of good ol' Mother Earth. but, we made it just fine despite the dire warnings every few miles or so telling us that unless we had chains or four-wheel drive we were doomed to spend the night upside down and defeated in a deep, dark ditch. sure trashed the bikes, tho. good thing for me D's got a sense of humor. Sorry PDX we went the opposite direction today. It was a follow the front wheel, stay warm kind of thing ( well in the beginning anyway!). We'll do trains before long I think, you know there won't be holding him back any when those tags arrive! |

Jim, it was unseasonably gorgeous in the San Joaquin Valley (which is where i met up with UberBear) this morning, at least 30 degrees warmer than up here at altitude (sounds odd, but this time of year it's usually the other way around). the sky was brilliant blue, as you can see in the pix, and the hills - even tho it's still January - are already green and alive. which is all a much longer than necessary way of saying we made an on-the-fly executive decision and decided to bask while the basking was good. hope you're not TOO disappointed - as UltiBear said, we'll do the train thing soon. |

Looks like you two had a great time, glad that you guys made that executive decision, the pixs are great! When the V-Strom becomes legal, I do expect some trains soon! Oh, by the way, Shel and I was in the bike shop up the street yesterday. She got a close up look of the V-Strom. Her words were, damn it takes a good lookin man to make a bike that ugly look ok. |

Look...I am not, strictly speaking, against giving some remedial riding lessonage. But, if Mr. Tough Guy thinks he can get D's bike dirty and take it home w/o offering to clean it up, I can tell you he'll soon have the crystal oscillation modulator in his cerebellum adjusted. Git'em D.....he done it on porpoise!

Court, No worries, I'm ON it. Dino, SOMEBODY has to keep the battery charged - the frost at 7:00 a.m. was NOT my calling. Jim, Let Shel know I agree 200%. -- and talk about a site to die for if we ever get these hooligans together -- no matter if one is on a yeller bike. |

Court, the last push over Alta Sierra yesterday afternoon was a soupy, slushy mess. in fact, just outside of Glennville the signs were already proclaiming that chains were required ahead, altho we rolled the dice and chanced that we could get up, over, around and thru. well, we DID, but it required riding thru several inches of slush in many places, and there's gotta be something like four duhzillion yards of dirt and gravel spread on the entire length of the Bostrom, whether it needs it or not. which is all to say that D's pretty SV is a disaster, just waiting for me to get off work tonight and make it right. "before" pix at 11. |

>>>Court, the last push over Alta Sierra yesterday afternoon was a soupy The tale of trecherous trails reminds me of the day you pushed me of the M2 and tried to send me down the cliff. NOTE TO THOSE GIVEN TO GETTING STIRRED: I parted company with the bike via my own stupidity and pooor judgement. Pal Ferris was just there to help me etch the lesson into Buell history and celebrate the use of good gear. Wait?...no, I was pushed by Ferris...that does sound better...right? Court |

now then, do suppose they put THIS on the back of the envelope as a subliminal message for those who might again someday be tempted to buck the system??? regardless: ladies and gents, at long last the ugly-duckling (thank-God-i'm-gorgeous-enough-to-offset-its-indescribable-hideousness), very-nearly-illegal-and-deported-alien, menace-to-California-and-all-things-good-pure-and-proper, hi-vis-yellow-and-black V-THING is back in the wind. coming soon to a twisty near you. ride to lean. |
