Name the time & place my friend. The road from Golden Hills to Keene is a Railfan's delight but has a history of being quite dangerous to motorcyclests. Great care should be used as I know of more than one bike totaled on that road. It always has DG in the corners and often slow traffic, vehicles on the wrong side, drivers not watching the road or dangerously parked. But one of the best places in the world to watch trains. One of the upsides to the time I lived in Golden Hills. Too bad we didn't have the time to take Alex by when he was here as I think he would have liked the engineering aspect of the Loop. So what restaurant did you & D so enjoy Jerry? (Message edited by unibear12r on January 24, 2005) |

Unibear, Get better, where are we going to meet for your next birthday? We've all celebrated one, might as well do another!!! Get well soon, my friend. Hope all is well with you, my friend. Dino, When time, and finances permit, I have a few pics from the trip this summer that I may want to have made into artwork, I'll be in touch. Jerry, How much does your neighborhood NOT suck. Great pics. |

This was ugly but doesn't hold a candle to two winters back when I had Legionnaire's and Wooping Cough at the same time. Thanks everybody! Just a day or so before I had commented to my kids on how well we had been doing sense that bad time. (Message edited by unibear12r on January 24, 2005) |

PDX Jim - get well soon. in the meantime, rent a Vespa! Dino - correctamundo: no dice! UBear - agreed, a great road to mind one's manners on. it's ALWAYS dirty in the same places, and always populated by site-seeing tourists (like me 'n D), but a great road to ride nonetheless, and i never miss it when i'm up that way. there's a foot path next to the Loop that leads out to a point of land high and above the tracks, which looked mighty tempting to me 'n the SV, and Denise was game, PROVIDING i let her off first! after several margaritas in Tehachapi it was all i could do not to do my best Ricky Carmichael on this path on the way back by. hmmmmm, maybe i'll have to take the 'Strom back up there when the registration and plate show up in the mail... speaking of Mexican food (and margaritas), the name of the place is Domingos's, right on the very west end of town on Valley Blvd. the owner would periodically join the band and sing, pretty much at the top of his lungs. he wasn't good, but he was loud, and it simply added to the fun, festive atmosphere. thanks Alex, not much sucking going on here, that's for sure! wish we'd had more time to show you around, but, as JB2 would say, seeds for another trip. ps to UberBear - re: ride next Sunday, stay tuned to this thread...

Uber: ok, me 'n D are on for a ride this Sunday the 30th. Dino was originally in, may still be, but he'll have to weigh in himself. anyway, you game? if so, where do we meet, what time, and where do we ride? (preferably someplace not infested by fierce fog...) |

FB - Glad you enjoyed the "post-processing", cause it took great skill, long hours, and some high dollar software to achieve. Okay, actually no skill, a coupla minutes each, and free downloadable software. And Char says my op art landscape sucks. I get no respect. Alex - I'll be interested to see what you have in mind. All - Concerning Sunday the 30th...I assume we'll be in Mariposa since we didn't go this weekend...but then, that's what I said about this weekend, so we'll see. |

Where have you not been lately? careful or Mr. Gates will steal that as a new marketing slogan... would like to head back up to Tehachapi, get some more train pix for PdxJim, and snoop around the area up behind and to the west of Tehachapi - does that make any sense? i can't think of what that area is called but i bet you know your way around in there pretty good. i seem to remember there are some cool little winding roads that head straight up into the mountains directly above Tehachapi? all of this is just a casual suggestion, i'm game for pretty much anything, and if Dino can come out and play maybe we could consider a ride up Granite Road up to Glennville and beyond and keep the party a little closer to HIS home base. what time Sunday can you launch? i could, perhaps, meet you in BFL early and then tag-team back up here and grab Denise? |

ps from Sunday's ride to PdxJim and UberBear: since you guys seem to be into trains, thought i'd share this. after i shot the last pic of the trains the other day (the photo looking head-on down the tracks) i happened to look down on the ground and saw this very cool railroad spike lying next to the tracks. it's prolly not uncommon to find one of these, but still we both thought it made a neat memento of the day. (in the pix above i'm practicing my trials moves...) anyway, this VBFN (very big frikkin' nail) may not look like much NOW, but just you wait 'til i get after it with some sandpaper and Mothers... Pdx if you back track the thread a bit you'll see that hiding my ugly mug in a full cover helmet didn't help me any. Jerry has a way with that camera.(Oops I got lost- its on Court's Command) Jerry Good thing you picked up that VBFN. Otherwise it WOULD have made it in my tire my next trip through! Spike art might become your newest passion! Most of the roads south up the mountain out of Tehachapi are dirt. There is the road up to Tehachapi Mountain Park. Its been so long I can't remember if its paved. Out 202 to the southwest is the prison, Bear Valley and Stallion Springs. Out past the cement plant to the northeast is a place called Sand Canyon I believe. An early meet in BFD is fine if you want, Tehachapi is good, Glennville is good. Even both! There is the Posy area above Jack Ranch too. There's a nice spot up there I think you'd like to see. (Message edited by unibear12r on January 26, 2005) |

Last time I ate at Domingos was about 1992. Had to have you jog my memory, sad. Good food & ate there a lot. It was the ONLY place in Tehachapi that I would drink Margaritas at that time. |

Spike Art, i LIKE it, just you wait! yeah, 202 and Bear Valley is what i was thinking. i knew the prison was out there, but didn't mention it earlier 'cause it sounds so, well, not fun. kinda a cool area to cruise around tho, even if you eventually have to u-turn and exit back towards Tehachapi. i think i'm thinkin' the road up to TMP is paved, but it doesn't go all that far? rode out to Sand Canyon awhile back, another cool road but also doesn't go that far. let's wait for Dino to chime in as to whether or not he can play, then we can make some decisions. i'm game for anything, providing there's no BadWeather involved. ps: yes, Domingos' margaritas are still noteworthy... |
