the last shot from the RANE Return. Corso, this glimpse of Mt. Whitney, looking west from the Whitney Portal, is for you. Glenn, we sure had us some fun, didn't we? thanks again for your friendship and camaraderie. (Message edited by jerry_haughton on December 26, 2004) |

Sorry to hear of your regulatory snafu's Ferris, they build the worst sort of frustration. Its one thing to be slowly tortured by somebody right in your face, but at least you have someone to rage at. Getting extruded by a big impersonal machine is the worst. The solution is obvious, just go get a 9sx with the ventura mounts and be done with it. |

thanks Reep, i THINK i'll prevail on this one. i've got some good documentation, and the manager of CARB outlined a couple of possible scenarios where the 'Strom MAY ultimately be allowed to remain in the state. the obvious and immediate downside, of course, is that i can't ride the thing on the streets while I attempt to sort this mess out. hey, an idea! maybe the NEXT chapter of this little photo-thread should be entitled "HOW SAD: 'Haughton On Wheels Strom'n Around the 'Dome'". hmmmmmm............................

FB - Didja get a chance to check out the action at the Darwin Dance Hall? Looks like a swingin' place! Wouldn't you love to have some pix of said Dance Hall in period action? That'd be fascinating! |

Hi FMJ I suggested that already and it's to the point that Jerry has to prevail in his current method or ship the bike out of state forever. Sucks and not his fault as he made every effort to be legal. |

Denise I did enjoy your perplexed look as you tried to figure out who that "masked" man was! If you remember from Octoberfast I tend to use up the center of my tires too fast also! Jerry did you say T-shirts? I loved Valley of Fire & was having a great time. Just that I was just getting over that bug & that 117 degree heat was smoking me. The Mouse Tank was impressive and it would be nice to ride it again when its a bit COOLER. Scared nothing, Jerry was having too much fun ripping the asphalt right off the ground. I missed that chalkboard at Darwin! It was quite interesting there and we spent some time exploring. Although we only saw one person it felt like a number of hidden pairs of eyes were upon us at times. Quite surreal at times. I was almost surprised that a traumatized little girl and 30 foot killer ants didn't show up! (OK, I know I dated myself with THAT one!) Whitney Portal was the only place in three days the temp was under 110 and that waterfall was a wonder. Beautiful sights there. Yes that was a GREAT ride and I loved every moment. Jerry remember what I said Christmas Eve? I wish it really could be that easy! Still as far as a weekend goes just give me the word pal. (Message edited by unibear12r on December 27, 2004) |

Ferris, Great pics from the return trip from Zion. Expect something in the mail from me in the next few days... Been meaning to send it to ya. How much did that trip not suck... Glenn, I'm guessing you finally figured out that fueling problem on the XB? I bet I'll be the next one to do it when I pick mine up... |

Alex, Just don't fill it above the lower level of the neck and if it's really hot allow for a lot of expansion. A 49r bike will just puke it out the overflow and not throw a fit like mine did anyway. Havn't had one problem sense. I'm slow but I do eventually learn! |

Alex, it didn't suck very much at all, that's for sure. wow, was 2004 a great year for riding or what?!?!?!? WOO HOO!!! Glenn, for me it's just the opposite: i'm learned, but eventually slow.

Dear Court: i pinged Dino yesterday morning to wish he and Char a Happy New Year, and to advise that me 'n D were knocking off work early and taking the "legal" motorycle out for a ride - didn't matter where, but we HAD to go riding! Dino's reply, as he and Char were being held captive at their cottage in Mariposa in the same pounding winter strom that had been driving US crazy, raised a polite eyebrow. well, we DID quit early, only putting in an 8-hour work day (what a concept!), but try as we might, we couldn't cotton to the idea of jumping on the SV and riding out into the crap that had been falling out of the sky all morning, doing its best impression of the Pacific Northwet. so we did the next best thing: we donned our riding gear, jumped in my truck, and revisited the journey that launched this thread in the first place: Shirley Meadows via 155, aka the Bostrom Highway! so, without further adude: Split Mountain looking up Pascoe Canyon BEFORE...
