Ferris & Denise-Thank you once again for being such great hosts. You have made Oktoberfast such a great experience. I will remember it as one of my motorcycle riding highlights. I am also very proud to have be able to ride with such awesome people. I look forward to the day when I can ride again with some of the Oktoberfast participants. You guy's and gal's are off the charts. I would also like to thank Al, Joanne and Zach from American Sport bike. From replacing tires to replacing shocks. American Sport Bike went way above the call off duty. |

"Tbear"? glad to see it stuck. Ebear, i know you've got a ton more pix - ya best get 'em posted soon, ya hear??? thanks all for everything - a good time, a good and safe ride, and for your words and photos. anyone hear from Viros or Mike D. Bike? Sandblast, i know you're busy and all, but you need to tell the tale of your shock, and of the heroic efforts of American Sport Bike Al in gluing your machine back together - several times - over the weekend. Unibear, YOU need to give us a couple hundred words of how American Sport Bike Al snatched you from the jaws of terminal rearrubberus showingcordus. Mike, you too if you're out there. USR66, you too! me, i'm pleased that the fire department didn't shut us down Friday night (at a minimum the Men in Red woulda drank all our beer), and i'm glad i didn't have to use - or witness anyone ELSE use for that matter - the Hurl Deck up at Montecito. ""terminal rearrubberus showingcordus"" ROTFLMFAO!!! That was not hard to do on 245!! After the journey down, blistering my rear tire, I TOTALLY understand the level of concern and apprehension at the junction/meeting. I have a guy here on base, who thinks the "higher traction" rubber layer is all that is!! I laughed at him, then went back to work, while he stared in disbelief at my blatent humor from his ignorance! Jerry, I will drop you a line later, talking about the Bostrom Bruce |

From afar, here in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty, it appears, once again, that Al Lighton emerges as the event hero! He took a commanding points lead by once again repairing, by hook or crook, anything he came upon that wasn't right. Folks like that get bonus grins in the Buelldom. Al, it appears, had more saves than this Yankee pitcher from Panama. But, when he forgot where he put his sunglasses, well the votes came in from RT, Bomber and well...and I'd wager to guess the admiration of the aged Mr. Buell hisownself. Guys our age admire a guy who admits he can't remember what happened 47 seconds ago. Al, your award is on the way! Court P.S. - I am nominating the FnDBnB to AAA for the Hospitality Award for 2004! If it was half as fun as it appeared from here, it was a dandy! Well done folks ! |

I second Ebear's motion Court, you should join us next year. Mike sent me an E-mail when he got home so he made it ok. Viros pealed away from Sandblast & I just before Bakersfield to take the old way to 99 (via 58). Hopefully he made it from there ok. I too would like to know. Ferris I'll chip in a bit when I get caught up here, but a couple of hundred words? Most people seem to think I get awful boring after about ten! |

>>>>How's 'bout next year YOU come out and join us??? You guys have no idea what you are asking for. There are 3 states that have banned Ferris and I from riding together, another two that won't allow us in the same parking lot with Buells. In the not too distant past, I used to come West a couple times a month and give the young Jedi lessons. On the last one he shoved me off a cliff. . . yes. . YES, that's it, I was pushed. I may need to return at some point to perform the mandated "Moral Compass Alignment" for Jerry Johnson's Love Shack, but until I get their you are in great hands with Ferris and Denise. . . two of my most favoritist biwheelians! I thanked Al in this thread for the help, but did'nt tell the story. Fire Man Jim asked earlier how many miles the shock reservoir dragged on the ground before I noticed... I have no idea. I know I pre-flighted the M2 before I left Bakersfield, so I dont THINK there was anything amiss with the bracket at that point... But anyway I was just tooling along up 178 and I heard a metallic pinging, kinda like a triangle they used to use to get cowboys to come eat. Pulled over and saw this: Now, it must have taken much of the damage before the end cap popped off, and I figure I did not hear it because it is (was) full of fluid and under pressure, which would act as a sound damper, but as soon as the cap popped I pulled over (Im sticking to my story!). Well, I tied it up with that little strap and rode to the Thunderdome, thinking my weekend was over. After I leaked oil (sorry Ferris I thought all the oil was on my tire) Ferris assured me that since I still had a spring I could at least putt through the weekend. He helped me take off the offending part and Scott, Don, Eric and Tbear went to get me a bolt to plug the hole where the banjo bolt used to be. In a last minute desperate shot at not having to take it way slow all weekend I called American Sport Bike. Joanne answered and said they had not left yet, and would do what they could. When Al called back I told him I would try to ride it the way it was and he said no way in hell was he going to let me "bounce around on a pogo stick all weekend" Now, keep in mind that a new shock I think is upwards of $400.00 that I could not spend, if they even stocked shocks for tubers two years after they stopped making them. Especially since I bought my bike new 10 months ago and it is under warranty. Well I wont go into the details so that nobody accuses Al of being too nice (he probably is) but he took some stuff out of his personal bike stuff, brought it up, and in the wee hours installed it so that I could ride. Sooooo Coool. He also on the ride noticed my carb was loose (just the breather mount thing for the Hypercharger) and etc etc. Saved my big time. Thanks Al. |

Shucks, Guys, I just helped change a few tires . The real hero was Joanne for driving the truck and bringin the BEER, and Bob the caretaker up at Montecito that let us use his wood shop and the big frickin vise to break the bead. We were gonna drive the truck up on a 2x4 ramped on the wheel to do it, I was having visions of pitching whoever had to stand on the other side of the wheel over the back of the truck in the process! As far as Shawns bike, well, let's just leave it that I have a pretty good clue what stuff likes to fall off these paint shakers we ride. "a guy who admits he can't remember what happened 47 seconds ago"...I'm totally there, dude. These days, I AM Dori (from Finding Nemo)...I hope there aren't too many American Sport Bike customers that think I'm a total ditz from all the stuff I can't remember..so much to do, so little mind... Folks, GP is coming to Laguna Seca next year. One can get from LA to Laguna Seca by way of the Sierra's if one goes a little out of their way. I think that everyone should be finding a way to be out here in Kalifornia next July....If it means shipping a bike, well, we've got lots of space to receive them here at American Sport Bike until your butt can climb on board and drive it north to Monterey. And if you can get the time off, you just keep heading north up to SPLASH that always happens right after Laguna Seca. The possibilities are mind boggling.... Here are some of my pictures- See it, the shock was okay at this point, and who would be looking at a stupid shock with this scenery! More beauty on the way to the ThunderDome Getting ready for new rubber, it was well after dark and COLD when he got it The crew getting ready to descend, and OH what a decent it was. Remember the prototype Dodge cars we saw? Ready to rock (actually this was towards the end). |

Well I for one am glad Al & Jerry convinced me to go up to Montecito instead of going solo to Fresno. I was strongly inclined to go solo and not mess with anyone else's ride. Turns out Mike's tire was maybe 50 miles behind mine for wear. Another would have to be changed when we made it back to the Dome. Al & I dismantled my bike in the Lodge parking lot as the gloom gathered. Then Al, Mike & myself were Fresno bound in Al's truck hoping to pick up three tires. BTW Al drives as good as he rides as we flew off that mountain trying to beat Cycle Gear's closing time. Found Cycle Gear and they even had a tire to fit each bike. At first they didn't want to change my tire but with Al's plan and my guile we convinced them to change it. Considering we were spending over $400 you would think it would take less convincing! Back up the mountain just in time for dinner. (Thanks for holding us plates guys). Then to the parking lot to put my bike together by flash & headlights. Except for everyone driving up to watch, talk and, of course block AL's headlights it went real easy. Yes, your right, Al did most of the wrenching while I held the tire, or held the light, or held the odd tool, or tightened the token bolt here or there. Now Mike's bike was a bit more interesting. Kinda like a whole HERD of monkeys with one football. I owe many thanks to the Lightons. You couldn't hope to meet a nicer couple. |

Well, I've been waiting patiently, but I'm beginning to worry about you Oktoberfasters. I was only at Fountain Springs for a coupla minutes, but I could hardly miss noticing that tall, hot blond decked out in black, head to toe. Yet on this recap, not a mention...not a photo. You have photos of flattened beer cans. You have photos of chromed gas tanks. But not one photo of that lovely, young lady? What's the matter with y'all. Are you not the manly bunch I once took you for? (Her name is Mandy, BTW) |
