Dan here , my first post. I am a new owner of a 2009 Ulysses. I bought the Bike sight unseen off of Ebay end of October. Flew from San Diego where I live to Long Island NY to pick up the Bike , spent about 15minutes with the seller and off I went to ride it home. Ok , made it to the Bronks and it died on Me ! major oh Shit ! I was lucky and broke down at a spot big enough to get out of the way of traffic . Had several Bikers riding Different brands of Bikes pull over to help , but no Luck so they one by one left. Ok all the Bikers informed Me that I couldn't just call any tow company or friend, I had to wait until the Law enforcement came by and they would call a approved (by them) company to tow Me away. Well now I'm almost an hour on the side of the freeway (no Cops) so I think to myself, Ok Dan if there is anything on this Bike You could fix what would it Be ? Hmmm Fuses ? well lets check it out , after figuring out how to get the seat off I start checking the fuses , Of course Ignition first, then fuel pump ,Ah blown fuse to fuel pump !!! , I put in new spare fuse and off I go :-) 3100miles later I am back in San Diego with out any other Issues , I will say that the Motorcycle is really clean but the Fuse connections have a light corrosion on them ! I'm sure this is what caused the fuse to Blow , I have taken out every fuse and circuit breaker and cleaned the contacts and used dielectric grease on all connection and highly suggest other to do the same , sorry for the long post : Keep on rockin in the free world |

I LOVE that story! I know the road you were on . . . . I'm here in NYC . . . and you've started life by not only surviving but laughing in the face of the acid test of motorcycle ownership. Congrats to you. A couple things . . . . First . . you should have let us know you were coming to NYC. That way if you did need trailered, fixed or finagled yo'd know there was a well concealed Buell community minutes away from rescuing you. We also often feed wandering souls. Also . . . when you say "old" . . . well . . . . with Erik Buell and I headed toward 70 as the next "big one" . . the definition of "old" has become somewhat dynamic. I lived in Coronado for a couple years, condos just south of the Hotel Del, and still have a soft spot for San Diego . . . I go back to the glory days of Bauer and Hudson on KFMB. Congratulations on scoring the Ulysses . . .you are going to love it and there is a wealth of information and resources here on the world's largest Buel community. Welcome aboard ! I wish I knew you were around, I live just outside the Bronx and could have helped you. Worth noting, some 09s have an issue with the fuel pump that it blows the fuse on hot days when low on fuel. The only real fix is to replace the fuel pump, but I would keep a few spare fuses under the seat and see if the issue continues to crop up. |

Thanks for The Welcome Court . Your right and I should have been a little more prepared and Had a few phone numbers in my pocket from that area (Yours) NY . Hudson & Bauer was about 1975 to 1997 , what years did you Live on the Island ? Anyway thanks for the offer to help and right back at ya ! If Your ever back in the San Diego area You have all the help You need , Just ask, goes for any other traveler's also , I know I felt pretty helpless on the side of the road and don't want anyone to have to feel that way when there's truck / trailer/tools and Beer Drinking capability at there disposal :-) |

Just saw Your post, Thanks Froggy , I have a different opinion of NY'ers after My trip , The ones that I have met that were here on vacation Here in San Diego were arrogant, loud know it all's , Like I wrote above, I had several Guys stop and try to help Me on the side of the road in the Bronks and Now You and Court chime in , so I have Been Schooled :-) . I did buy several extra fuses in New Jersey as soon as I could for spares. It was stop and go traffic but I still had a lot of Fuel in the tank, I filled up In Melville before heading to the City. So I will keep an eye on the Fuel Pump , I do think it wasn't the fuel pump that was the problem, Like I said it had light corrosion on the fuse lugs when I pulled it out (all fuses did) I think most people would even have noticed it and had reacurring issues with not only the fuel pump but other electrical operation's . I still need to pull apart ALL other connections and check for corrosion issues which I believe is a contributing factor to charging related failures. I have used Dielectric Grease on every connection on every Car Truck and Motorcycle I have ever owned and has worked well for Me , But I sure will keep an eye out for the fuel pump issues !!! thanks for the heads up and any other suggestions . |

Hey Desertdan, you are fortunate to live in San Diego county where the core group of SCAB (Southern California Area Buellers) is located and is home to a great number of enthusiastic and knowledgeable Buell riders and supporters. American Sport Bike (Al L., proprietor & organizer) is close by in Vista and Biggs H-D in San Marcos (Jerry J., sales & organizer) support SCAB plus several members are in the MC industry. You won't find a nicer bunch of guys & gals to hang with. |

Froggy was out riding today and got in stop and go traffic and blew another fuel pump fuse :-( You say 2009 are known for it ? is this a wire chaffing issue or just a bad batch of pumps ? and any suggestions on replacement ? stock or after market ? thanks in advance |

Bad batch. American Sport Bike has the pump. It is OEM, there are cheaper aftermarket ones but they are a mixed bag of less reliable and missing components. This guide shows how to swap the pump. It also shows how to repair the wire chaffing issue on the 06 models, which doesn't apply to you. |

thanks Froggy looks pretty straight forward , will take longer to drain the fuel and get Jacked up then to pull the pump I think. |

Froggy ,last week we had some warm days here and blew the fuel pump fuse again ! so I just finished replacing it , Fuel pump motor , filer and filer screen , the rest seemed fine . I used a fuel pump motor and filter from Quantum Fuel Systems. Did a 45 mile test ride and all is good, runs better off idle , less hesitation. thanks for the heads up . } |
