Recently took a trip on my 99 S3, from Chicago to Cherokee,NC.,+other area twisties... 2 yrs in a row now instead of Sturgis bcuz its that awesome. 2900miles in 8 days. The Tail of the Dragon-Rt129 might be what draws people there, but imo, Rt28 from Bryson City,NC to Walhalla GA.+ a lil road called Warwoman(goes west from 28 to Clayton,Ga.)is better. Had 3500 on the stock Dunlop Sprtmax's when I left Chicago but after the 1st day on Cherohala Skywy my rear was down to the wear indicators. Day 2 on the Blue Ridge Pkwy removed even more. After day three at Geogia's "six gap", I had no rain grooves center or left, and it was wet or raining every day! ..Not to mention, at this rate, Id be seeing the threads soon, and we had 2 more days there. After talking to 5-6 area shops who all said it would be 2 days to get and put em on, I got referred to a little independent shop in Ashville,NC., called "MOTORAD"(does alot of vintage BMW). ....Long story short, was a GREAT experience. The owner-Ivan was awesome! Got the tires I wanted and put them on in 1 day, and for less than I coulda done at home!! Besides not taking advantage of my obvious need, he put my bike in front of his other projects, and I had an extra day to feed the Dragon some fresh rubber. ...Thanks Ivan! |
