picked up a bag of corn today.... WOW!!.. Over 10 bucks for a 40 lb bag I wont be chumming as much this year. Its almost double what it was last year On a good note. One of my customers in Kentucky has about a 350 acre farm and has invited me down for a Thursday and Friday hunt. He sent me pics from his trail cam that had 5 nice shooter bucks on it. |

Sat nothing Sunday a friend of mine shot two doe out of one of my stand, I didn't have any shots. Tammy had a doe at 15 yds but no shot. Tuesday morning another friend of mine shot a 150" 9 point and a doe out of another of my stands on a different property. I didn't even see a deer! This morning I came to full draw twice on a doe. I had her at 35 yds but she just would not step clear of the cover. I only needed her to take one, maybe two steps. No such luck. |

Well Sunday it happened! HPWB, Tammy got her first ever bow kill! 20 yard perfect "Double Lung" shot, deer went 30 yards and tipped over. Minutes after she texted me she shot one my frickin phone went dead! My last text to her was to "Stay Put"!!!! I went back to the truck, tried to revive my phone, to no avail, unloaded the quad, rode to her end of the woods since I had 3 other hunters to not disturb.I parked the quad about 50 yards away and snuck into the woods. There she was, an hour after the shot, sitting in her stand, just like I told her! Yaaaayyyyyyyy! She actually listens to me! I let her follow the blood trail and find her deer(even though I saw it laying there several minutes before she got close to it) She was PUMPED! Hopefully have a pic in a day or two. So, a ton of pressure is off me now. I PROMISED her I would put her on deer and she would get one this year. 2 weeks and 1 day into the season and she has done it. Now she wants more! Hahahahaha I know that feeling! |

Well, haven't checked in for a while. Been really busy in the shop and hunting hard. I have passed on about 20 bucks now, waiting for one in the 150-160 or bigger range. I did shoot my first ever turkey with a bow this past Sunday! Only took me 7 years! I figure I have about 500.00 per lb in this bird. Going to snow tonight for the first time and I am going hunting in the morning! |

Saw a nice buck alongside the road Sunday evening. Large rack, maybe 8+ point but typical small East Texas variety of white tail. It was a smart one though as it managed to avoid bolting out in front of me as I drove past. Congrats on the turkey and good luck finding a full freezer's worth of tasty buck. What's the record white tail there in Iowa? |

Yes I did Tom, wow! Blake, not sure what the record is but I am sure it is in excess of 200" of antler So far, friends of mine have taken a 176" and a 181" this year, along with a few others in the 150-160" range. My biggest so far is a 146" |

I was thinking by "150-160" you meant pounds. Thought for a minute that Texas white tail had invaded Iowa for you to set such a low weight goal. LOL! What's a 160"er likely to weigh up there? |

Yeah compared to Iowa deer, Texas deer are rabbits with big antlers! A big, mature buck will weigh 250-300 lbs. |

A big, mature buck will weigh 250-300 lbs. The back straps would be bigger than my leg... |

Great, only went 30 rads after I shot the Grim Reaper broadhead thru it's lungs. Quick tracking job! Missed a doe yesterday! Grrrrrrrr! Rushed the shot. My hunt winner got a doe! First time a hunt winner has actually shot a deer on their hunt with me. I have 3 more hunters I am taking next Sunday. Then 4 more the following Sunday after that. I skipped hunting his morning. I needed to get some sleep. I hunted hard last week and I think I might have had a total of 20 hours sleep from Tues-Sat Be back out tomorrow, thursday, friday and then sunday. |

I've killed and recovered 2 does this bow season. Shot another a bit high last week and tracked her for 300yds before the blood went the way of Buell. I've passed on 4 button bucks too. Last night had an encounter with a big buck. We were having a grunt-off. He won by not coming closer than 60yds through brush. Next time I'll have some scent attractant and a rattlebag. Best of luck to you all. NUTS |

Passed on two more bucks this morning. Had them both, at different times, at 15 yards. Just waiting for the big boy to show up. Also passed on a Piebald doe, she is pretty cool but my friend def wants to shoot her, missed her this morning at 30 yards. She ended up over by me and stayed in bow range for about 20 minutes. I do not have a doe tag for that county so I would've had to put my any sex tag on her. Then there would be no buck for me. Plus, the only way to do this doe justice would be to d a full body mount and I don't have the extra money for that. Hopefully Brent can shoot here and then he will have the taxidermist bill! Be out for a quick hunt tomorrow morning. Hunt only til a little after daylight then I will go back to the truck and grab a stand and set of sticks and go hand a set up for Saturday when Tammy is taking another gal hunting there. Thursday morning should be great, 23 degrees! |

Looney Tunes season for NUTS. Opening day of gun season I shot the doe I arrowed the week before. The arrow entered above the right shoulder and below the spine. She had a scab on the exit wound and an open cut on the entry. I'm not much of a gun hunter but the landowner asked me to help control the population. Day after Thanksgiving I took the boomstick out again and was fortunate to keep my finger off the trigger until this fella showed up. I shot him at 92 yards with the rifle my Father gave me when I was a punk 16 year old.
