Are those flyers printed or can we get a PDF version? My new color printer needs a workout, then we can post them in dealers.

Al,
To answer your question you essentially have the Silverton part of the Rally (aka RKYMTNHI) correct. We will depart Breckenridge to ride to Silverton on Friday morning (or anyone who cannot make the whole rally can meet us in Silverton) We will ride over Independence Pass and McClure Pass with a stop for lunch at Joe Cockers Mad Dog Ranch (I plan on contacting Joe to see if he can stop by). After lunch we will continue the ride to Silverton which will take us over the breathtaking "Million Dollar Highway". We should arrive in Silverton late afternoon. Reservations should be made in advance at the Grand Imperial Hotel (1-800-341-3340) please mention you are with the American Thunderbike Club Rally. The rest of Friday evening will be for getting acquainted and relaxing. The ride from Breckenridge is at or just under 300 miles. On Saturday we will be riding Hwy. #141, considered in the top 10 of U.S. best motorcycle roads. We will have lunch in Naturita just before tackling 141. We should arrive back in Silverton around 4 or 5pm and it is over a 300 mile trek. I am going to attempt to reserve an entire restaurant where we can all have dinner together. Otherwise basically the same venue as Friday night. Sunday morning I'm sure there will be those who will head home straight from Silverton, others will head back to the front range and meet up with those that stay the whole weekend in Breckenridge in Salida for luch before continuing back to Breck.

Ride Fast, Live Free,
Phil

Just a short addition to the RKYMTNHI rally posting I posted earlier in response to Al's question. Couldn't add it to my earlier response as I waited too long. Anyway, here is a shot I took last year along Colorado Highway 141, the ride of this Highway will be the highlight of going to Silverton. C:mydocuments/141

Nice pic, phil. That is one of my favorite roads in Colorado!

I'm curious though. Are there 2 different locations for the Rally? Some people are riding out of Breckenridge and over to Silverton while others are staying and riding around the Breckenridge area?

However it works out, it's all good. My wife and I are planning to be there!

If anyone is flying into Denver and hoping to rent a bike for the event, I don't know of any Buell rental places, but www.motoranch.com has some other nice torquey twins.

Also, anyone looking for some temporary housing (free) at the start or end of the rally is more than welcome to stay with us in Woodland Park. We're only about 1 1/4 hours from the back door of Breckenridge.

See y'all there!!

Walle, You are absolutely correct. Thunder in the mountains is a 5 day event. Some attendees will stay in Breckenridge for the entire 5 days and those who wish it will go to Silverton (RKYMTNHI) for three days, returning to Breckenridge (or going straight home) on Sunday.

Several people have been asking about camping. The Heaton Bay Campground is very near Breckenridge and the Amphitheatre Campground is very near Silverton. You can get more information about both at: www.coloradoguide.com

Just thought I'd freshen up the discussion since it's getting close to decision time.

From the ATB site
>>>>>>>>>>>>>> begin quote >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Thunder in the Mountains, July 11-15. This is ATC's rally of the west. For a couple of years I have been trying to get the western Buellers together, without any luck. Then this winter, Court Canfield from Team Elves, started talking about getting folks together out in Colorado. This idea really struck home for a lot of riders west of the Mississippi. So ATC got involved with Team Elves to help put this event on. The people responsible for most of the hard work is Kim & Cheryle Beres and Phil Poindexter, three ATC members out there in the mountains. They have put together 5 days of great riding and lots of lounging with fellow Buellers. Breckenridge is a resort town about 60 miles west of Denver, right in the Rocky Mountains. As you can see from the info below, there will be lots of different length rides, each day with ATC's RKYMTHI, 3 day rally included. This area has many other things to enjoy, like hiking, river rafting, mountain biking and more. There are some who are bringing the whole family to make it a two week vacation, with some Buelling thrown in. From the response we have gotten so far, this looks like the biggest event of the year for ATC, so mark your calendars and make your reservations.
Be there or be square!
--
Schedule:
--
Wednesday afternoon: Camp Hale
--
Thursday: 1. Peak to Peak 2. Hwy 50 / Royal Gorge 3. Steamboat, Evening group dinner at local Country/Western Bar. Does this imply I should bring a cowboy hat?
--
Friday: 1. 6 Mt. passes / Silverton /RKYMTHI (some will continue on to Silverton and others will loop back to Breckenridge.) 2. Gore pass 3. Mount Evans
--
Saturday : 1. Hwy 141 for the Silverton/RKYMTHI group 2. Steamboat 3. Camp Hale 4. Loveland pass (this can be a short 45 mile ride over the pass, with picture opportunities)
--
Sunday: The Beckenridge group will ride down to meet up, for lunch, with the returning RKYMTHI group.
--
Fees:
-
Thunder in the Mountains Rally fee is $15.00. You will receive an entry for the five days, an information packet, a Thunder in the Mountains patch and ride maps.
-
RKYMTHI fee is $15.00. You will receive entry to the three day Silverton rally, maps and a custom made RKYMTHI henleyshirt.
-
If you are coming for the five days at Beckenridge and the RKYMTHI rally, the cost is $30.00.
-
All entries must be received by June 24th. This is pre entry only. You can send a check payable to ATC, 37 Goodnow Rd. Princeton, MA 01541 or call 979-464-0055 and enter over the phone with Visa or MasterCard. Remember to give your shirt size if going on the RKYMTHI trip.
-
All fees are non refundable.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< end quote <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Questions: I'm slightly confused, no surprise there.
1) By pre-entry only, does this mean don't just show up without pre-entering? And is this going to be a wrist-banded-only-entry type of thing, or is it more like a bunch of people just showing up and if you didn't pay the entry fee it just means you don't get any patches or shirts or free food but can see/do everything else?
2) Is Breckenridge the hub of the ATC/TeamElves event, and is Silverton the hub of the Thunder In the Mountains event, or did I get them confused? Is the RKYMTHI the ATC thing or is the other one the ATC thing? I'm thinking Breckenridge is the ATC hub, and Silverton is the other hub.
3) Wednesday seems to be mainly a show up and gather type of day? What is Camp Hale?
4) Thursday is a choice of one of three grouped rides? Thursday night will be comprised of comparisons of riding horses vs riding motorcycles? Let's see, horses leave patties, bikes leave oil puddles, either of which will put you on your keester if you don't watch where you step.
5) Friday is when the ATC camp splits up with some going to Silverton, and some staying around Breckenridge. Ride #1 will be the confusion ride with some splitting off the group, and with others trying to decide if they are suffering from altitude sickness and wondering if those others riders are going in the right direction. Ride #2 & #3 are for those who know not to go on confusing rides while one has an altitude-induced headache, and who are staying at the ATC hub in Breckenridge. Did I get this somewhat right? Let's see, pack Advil and aspirin.
6) Saturday. Rides #2-4 are for the Breckenridge based ATC group. Ride #1 is for the others who went over the hill?
7) Sunday. The ATC hub breaks camp in Breckenridge. The Silverton RKYMTHI hub breaks camp. Lots of bikes heading in lots of directions all thru the Rocky's in Colorado.
8) Is there a web site of last or previous year's RKYMTHI event? All a quick dogpile.com search turned up was a bunch of John Denver sites, none of which had much to do with motorcycles.
9) Is Tat/ASB going to be there with his/their mobile warehouse in case I want to order something and avoid the shipping charges by picking it up in person? Altitude induced logic at work here.
10) Who's doing what and who's going where?????

MikeJ probably just confusing the issue more

MikeJ:

Camp Hale, if memory serves, is where the US Army Mountain Combat Division was formed and trained in WW II. After the war many of the members of this elite organization became the developers of many western US ski resorts, including the nearby Vail.

I am kicking around the idea of doing some day rides with the group but with my historical lenitive scheduling (and severe austere budget) will not be registering. Most of the routes mentioned are a substantial distance from Boulder, but with an early start (2 AM) and late return I should be able to at least make a few of the rides and still be able to sleep in my own bed.

I have plenty of room in the house if you find need or inclination to stay here.

Thanks Don,
I've got some friends someplace in Colorado Springs that I was also thinking of one day stopping in to say hi to. I'm really starting to think I may just free-form this summer and go wherever I go when I go. No fun only having two weeks vacation per year, but at least I got that. Looks like you are about an hour or two from Breckenridge?

Mike:

The run to Breck is just under two hours as long as there is no traffic (an increasingly rare occurance these days) from my house in Boulder. Silverton is was about 7 hours last time I headed that way.

Hope to see ya this summer,

Don

FWIW,
Three Buellers and a non-believer on a kawasuyamada bike of some sort are coming up from San Diego. We decided that since we probably will head back to San diego thru Silverton/durango and other places about 4 corners anyway, we'll be hangin in Breckenridge rather than heading to Silverton on Friday. I hope we're not the only ones hangin there and doing the local breck area rides.

Don, if 2 to Breck and 7 to Silverton, can I conclude 5 to Silverton, or would it be different routes and still take 6/7 hours to Silverton from Breckenridge?

Anyone heading from Socal or Bay area or such places that want to connect along the way, just let me or Steveh know. We were planning on arriving in Breckenridge mid day wednesday.

Man! I sure wish I could make this gig! Y'all have a Coors for me when you're on top of Mt. Evans will ya. And another on Trail Ridge Road.

Blake (wondering if anyone recalls how this all got started.)

Hmmm, maybe next time I should say something like, "Hey, I'm riding over to Court's house next weekend... anyone wanna come along?" I imagine Court rushing to a top floor vantage point to survielle sniperlike through the scope of an AR15 all points of access to his estate. I see me laying next to my bike in a pool of blood at the entrance to Court's driveway. Or wait, with the addition of a couple guard dogs, wouldn't that be the "Aaron" scenario? :)

Yeah, like how at a Dallas night club back in '83 asking a couple of cute babes if I could sit at their table led to 15+ years of ongoing wedded bliss.

Or how like back in early '98 asking on the MO bikini bike BBS if anyone was interested in starting a Buell email list would fester and lead to a bunch of opinionated arsoles blathering on a BBS.

Brian Nallin says the new Buell will be... (sorry, those friggin cagins are vengeful treacherous sons ah beaches, and I ain't gonna disobey one!)

Oops, wrong topic, err... If you go to CO and miss Mt. Evans or Trail Ridge Road, you shall be shunned from this board! You must ride those two roads on a motorcycle! Warning, those running Mikuni's may want to rejet a few times during such rides. :)

Where are Mt. Evans and Trail Ridge Road? I know they're in Colorado, but I need something that Mapquest can find. Thanks.

'tis not good to be shunned.
