Not sure how interested you are in old bikes, but the Rocky Mountain Motorcycle Museum might be worth a look-see while in Springs. It's been years since my visit; might ask some local Buellers if it's still open. |

When you make it to Mount Rushmore, I think a MUST DO ride is Needles HWY and Iron Mountain Road. It's a GREAT ride!
Have a GOOD time... |

Thanks for the good suggestions guys. And thanks for the trailer/tools offer Paul. I hope I don't need them, but it is great to know you're there to rescue us. |

Looking at your route out of Gillette, I would suggest running straight south thru the Thuder Basin National Grasslands. Wide open and desolate but impressive as to where the Buffalo used to roam. You are also near where the "teapot Dome" scandal erupted to doom a presidency, if you are a history buff its cool in a desolate sort of way. A little desolation goes a long way but I really enjoyed us50 across nevada. YMMV Do not be alarmed in Wyoming by gunshots. The denizens routinely shoot at objects and critters whilst they drive those boring stretches. It is considered neighborly to inquire as to caliber and accuracy, spit a chaw to really fit in. Do not drink anything from an unlabeled container as a number of residents have taken to making their own fuel, clear is always bad. |

Thanks for the tips. We are going over maps today, and I'll look for those grasslands. Do not drink anything from an unlabeled container as a number of residents have taken to making their own fuel, clear is always bad. You know why NASCAR originated in North Carolina right? Amanda really enjoyed it when U4euh taught her how to shoot. I'm sure she would enjoy talking guns with the denizens. (Message edited by jlnance on August 29, 2009) |

Replaced the rear tire yesterday and noticed the rear pads were worn out. Thankfully, Ray Price HD/Buell had 2 pairs of pads in stock so I got them replaced. It seems that the procedure for replacing the pads in the service manual does not work. I had that issue the last time I had to change rear pads, and Sportymark came over and worked magic for me. Fortunately I watched, and was able to do it myself this time. -- The picture in the post above is the product of about a weeks worth of programming and analysis on my part. I have set things up so that I can take a picture on my phone, and mail it to my home computer, which will posts it in this thread. I learned a lot trying to make that work, but it should be very convenient for making updates from the road. |

Those cars are not moving. It is a single lane express way, sandwitched by those barraries. There was a wreck, which shut the whole thing down. (Message edited by jlnance on September 03, 2009) |

On my way up to Minneapolis tomorrow! I last talked to Jim around 3:30, when he was stuck in traffic north of Chicago. His intent was to get to Madison tonight. Once I get there the pictures and posts will be even more numerous (Message edited by amandam on September 03, 2009) |

Well I almost did an Iron Butt run by accident. It was a great day, but I'm glad to have a soft bed to sleep in. I left WV at 5:30. It was beautiful as the sun came up, though the fog was thick in places. By the time I got to Chillicoth, my hands were freezing cold. I put more clothes on after breakfast and continued on. I was making excellent time. I was in Chicago before 2:00 (centeral) and in Milwaukee before 4:00. I've been to Milwaukee a couple times now, so I actually know where a couple things are. I went to the Iron Horse for dinner, and hey were having a BMW bike night. Nate Kern was there, as well as the bike I posted a picture of. Supposidly the only on of that model in the US. There were a lot of people there. I hung out for a while, and eventually got back on the road (and managed to get lost.) My intention was to get to Madison tonight, but I only made if half way. I'm on Oconomowac. I'm tired. I'll see you all tomorrow. |

I'm in Minneapolis! I got here around noon and they let me check in early. I'm glad too, I was beat. I've been pushing meals out to make good time and it caught up with me. A looong nap and a late lunch and I feel much better now. I'm off to the airport to get Amanda in an hour. |
