All right guys here it is. I'm finally sorting thru pictures and getting the dates and Pics together. I noticed when you travel you lose track of the days and then when you travel in 3 different time zones you lose track of time! I rode my Uly, I have over 18,000 miles on it now thanks to 2 big trips I did this year, did I say "I LOVE MY ULY??? I DO!" I traveled with a student from a Rider's Edge Class I taught in 2007 Her name is Kathy and is a USCP officer. "So nobody Messes with ME!" She is riding her first bike an HD Low rider 2008 and broke 6,000 miles on it. Not bad for a newbie huh? She was on sensory overload all of the time, I kept telling her the trip was going to get better as we kept going west.
Our route was 70 west in Maryland to 40 into Pa, then back on 70 again to reach Pickerington, Ohio. Then we dropped down on interstate 71 to Cincinnati, Ohio. Then onto route 50 for the rest of the way until Canon City, Colorado. We were riding to the AMA Women and Motorcycle Conference. This is the 5th conference AMA has done for women motorcycling and my 3rd conference I attended. Every single one of them has been a blast. The last 2 I attended over 800 women participated from all over the country and some from over seas.
First picture is of a gas stop in Ohio it was a long travel day this day and Kathy had never seen Amish pull up and park their buggys at a gas station before so I had to take a photo of modern age machine with the old age in the back ground

First Day it was a little rainy and I had some 18 wheeler road rage on 70 as we were trying to get to Pickerington, Ohio. On 70 there is construction and a huge back up. one lane was ending and being on a motorcycle I took full advantage of my lane and rode it almost all the way down to the end motioning my student to follow. But a AHole trucker decided I wasn't going to continue down my lane and pulled his truck into it. He did this right in front of me so I had to hit the brakes and swerve, knocking a traffic barrel over, with my saddle bag. I had to ride in the closed part to get around him. Kathy couldn't follow. I was so pissed off and so was she. She wanted to take Police action I asked her to follow me and let's just get away from him. In the process of being in front of him now I let every single car I could in front of me, in front of the trucker who didn't want anybody in front of him: ) Isn't that NICE!
On day 2 we arrived at the AMA Headquarters and museum

In the museum I was drawn to all of the Gary Nixon bikes. He lives in Maryland and I see him at one of the local bike shows in February. I have his autograph on an old racing picture, and I'm so glad I have met him at the show one year. He is a cool dude!

The museum has a lot of great bikes and biker history some of my favorites Debbie Evans, Gary Nixon, Neil Peart. Some cool movie bikes are in there and a lot of Ness. We spent some time looking at everything. Here are close ups of 2 cool statues I loved the detail

My Brother an Avid RUSH fan, and I have read the Ghost Rider by Neil Peart and seen Rush in concert twice. My brother would be sooooo jealous Neil Pert's drums and his red BMW in the back ground.

Last one for today On route 50 the weather got better and so did the traffic. Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois route 50 was beautiful good long sweepers little American towns and friendly folk at all of the stops. You could get 2 cold cut subs and drinks for $3.61 at a truck stop made with whatever meat and cheese you wanted on it. Here is one from the Uly while riding.

Okay I can sneak more in at work now : )
The third and forth days of travel I was worried about getting around 2 major cities 10 million decision points with all of the connecting roads, beltways and interstates. Remind me never to get stressed out over a mid-west rush hour: ) Its nothing compared to the Baltimore-Washington metro area rush hours!
We end up in Emporia, Kansas and now I'm starting to relax a little and let the trip unwind a bit. We had High mileage days in the beginning, now after St. Louis and Kansas City we're going to slow down and be a tourist. The first cool place we stopped was Strong City, Kansas, Cottonwood Falls and the Tall Grass Prarie reserve in Kansas.

Adventure girl picture having fun

The Tall Grass Praries in Kansas is the last reserve for what used to be across the majority of the state in the days of the Buffalo roaming, indians and cowboys, fur traders and people traveling on the Santa Fe trail. I met a young park ranger who said he never saw an Ocean! It was a pretty cool park to visit.

here is one from inside the barn looking out

Strong City and Cotton Wood Falls is the place of the Movie set Back to the Future. I wanted to stay at the Grand Central Hotel but it was too pricey. Cotton Wood Falls is a mid west ghost town when we go there the main street was brick and was lined with shops that were closed. Anybody recognize the town clock?

Coming out of Cotton wood falls Kansas we had spotty rain but we were close to the motel in Emporia Kansas. Route 50 was beautiful in Kansas. The gas stations got further apart and the octane of the premium gasoline dropped too. On the east coast we get 93, then as we headed west it was 91 then at one point it was 89 and 87. We put 89 in our bikes to burn thru the next 100 or so miles, and I didn't feel or hear any difference. The Uly kept running like a champ.

As we got closer to Dodge City, Kansas I started to see the huge white windmills. I've only seen them on TV never in person. And you could look at them for miles. I wanted to stop and get a picture of them but the flat nature of the land gave the optical illusion of distance. So I waited until we were almost past them and took some shots.

Here is the one I took just as we were getting ready to pass them

Great ride and pics. The "Adventure Girls" pic is priceless.

The lower octane is good to go at altitude. Not so much air pressure at altitude, so lower absolute compression in engine, so no need for the higher octane. : ) Just a little tech knowledge.

Dodge City and the Boot Hill Museum is up next. If you get the book Road trip USA you will get a pretty good description of what to expect. Boot Hill cematary was built over later on. They have a large museum worth visiting. I love shooting guns and own some so if you like shooting this is the place for you. They had lots of old guns on display in the Boot Hill Museum. A bar to go to and have some suds or wet your whistle. and lots of neat stuff to see. Here are the pictures to Boot Hill Museum in Dodge City, Kansas

If it's no trouble, try posting at twice the pic size (dimensions). I'm thinking you'll still fall within the newly upsized BadWeB limit (100 KB).

Okay Blake thanks for the tech tip and I was wondering about the tire pressure at Hi- attitudes as well. Another little thing to think about in my head besides the hi- altitude sickness. So posting pictures question I can load up larger pictures to lets say e-mail size pics?

In Colorado I broke out this little HD MP4 camera that has a lens you can turn back and forth to get pictures behind you and in front of you. It takes movies and still pictures and is really small. I mounted it on a 5.5 inch RAM mount on the handle bars of the ULY. We're riding in Colorado now the landscape has changed.

Bent's Old Fort is a rebuilt fur traders fort it also had a role in the Mexican war in thew 1800's the only original structure of the Fort was the cooks' Hearth. Everything else was recreated. This was a major stop for people traveling the Santa Fe trail.

They had a couple of people there dressed in 1800 garb acting out their roles. I visited the Doctor of the fort and told him I suffered from Hard Headedness! He wanted to examine my head for lumps!

Here is the Flag flying high over the fort

On August the 18th we are in Canon City Colorado. The altitude is 5,500 feet above sea level Kathy and I are doing good so far and we're thinking we will not suffer Hi-altitude sickness when we reach Keystone, which is 100 miles away and at 9,000 feet above sea level. Also we are meeting Julie and Dan from CBR. They are going to ride the last 56 miles with us to Keystone Julie's Bad Web name Jumpinjewels. It was so cool to meet them. Kathy gave Julie a challenge coin from DC. We had dinner at the Wolf Rock Brewery in the River Run Village at Keystone. Julie rode Loveland Pass that day on her way home with Dan following. So Kathy and I rode to Hartsel and both of us had headaches already and I felt like I was on a boat in the Chesapeake bay. My head was on and off swimming from the lack of oxygen. To top it off we had a storm blow thru it was heavy rain looked like slush rain and sleet with thunder and lightening. At this point I'm thinking "what the hell am I doing here!" I'm crazy for being here. Julie and Dan were comforting. I listened to their advise and drank a ton of water while up in the hi-altitudes. Back home I live only 358 feet above sea level. So here are the pics.

here is the room view at Keystone

here I am at Keystone village

First day of the Conference I took full advantage of the demo fleets available to us. We rode Harleys, Buells, BMWs, Yamahas, and Ducatis. Still dealing with a slight headaches but I have the camelback on and I'm drinking water like crazy! Second day was Dirt Bike School from a school called Coach 2 ride Bonnie and Andrea were our coaches we had 3 hours of dirt parking lot instruction then got to ride up a fire trail and back down. It was cool! I haven't been on a dirt bike since I was in my 20's

Here are our coaches

Here is Kathy riding

here is the beginning of the class we had to ride them to the dirt range
