Well it was a nice weekend and I took a few road trips the first was down I-51 South to Clinton Lake. Clinton Lake is an artificial lake with one of IL's trademark Nuclear Power Plants. It seems we have like 20 of them here. Hit up the river down here also. I had to ford this lake to get to lunch.

Next place I went is down Route 66 here in Bloomington for a little while. First stop was in Funks Grove, IL its not really a town anymore, it really wasn't a town ever. This next one requires a little expo, basically back in the 1820's they spelled syrup one of two ways, obviously the way we use now and also as sirup. Sirup was used on pancake's. Funks Grove was formed back in the 1820's to provide maple sirup and maple sugar as it was the only sugar they had here is central IL. Pretty cool little blurb on their website if you get bored. The next town was McLean, IL. First and only stop here was the Dixie Truckers Home. It was opened in 1928 and is still owned by the same family, just 5 generations later. And yes that is a Honda Silverwing Trike. The Next and last town was Atlanta, IL. Quite a cool little town very historic looking and well taken care of. The Library and Veterans Memorial Town itself: One of the few famous "Muffler Men" left. And, last but not least. My lunch let me tell you this place was amazing, it was opened in 1940 and looks like it was 1940 and it just opened when you walk inside. The food was great and so was the service. I mean honestly can you beat a meal like this? Roast Pork, Cranberry Stuffing, Bottled Coke, and Chicken and Rice Soup, and a Coconut Cream Pie which was freshly made for like 10 bucks. Needless to say I will eventually ride RT. 66 down into Missouri one of these days. |
