If Jim Bantz ever calls you and says "say, do you have any plans for such and such a date?"... then your answer needs to be "my schedule just opened up!" http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/halloffame/hofbiop age.asp?id=124

Cold and snowy Jan 2,2008, in Pickerington, OH Something special lurks on that trailer... a piece of history. Arriving at its new home Jerry Haughton and Dave Barr (Message edited by reepicheep on January 02, 2008) |

Gotta respect a director of the AMA museum that wears coveralls. As gracious a host as you could ask for. Two generations... Jim Bantz (right) thinking (1) I'm cold and (2) I better not drop it. No where near the worst terrain this bike has covered. (Message edited by reepicheep on January 02, 2008) |

He was no where near as proud of that plaque as he was of his kid. With good reason. Jerry, doing his thing. Note Dave's ankles. I watched the man unload a motorcycle before I put all the pieces together and realized "the rest of the story". I can be pretty dense sometimes, and the part of the story I knew (where he has been) was already more then I could imagine. It never occurred to me he has a disability. And still doesn't. What, exactly, do you suppose you have to hit, to put that kind of notch between a spoke and a brake rotor? This bike has a million stories. Same bike as that earlier "Brazil" plaque. It's been around. (Message edited by reepicheep on January 02, 2008) |

Add Alaska to the list of places the bike has been. And Siagon if you missed it the first time around. And another continent or two. Nice comfy seat And spare no expense on the saddle bags.... (Message edited by reepicheep on January 02, 2008) |

Special thanks to Jim Bantz, for being who he is and doing what he does, and Dave Barr, for being who he is and doing what he does. Just like that bike has a thousand marks from a thousand stories, you can't spend some time with a guy like Dave and not have him leave a mark on you. God made us for adventure... and to see a man living out his glory, the glory that God built into him from before he was born, will change you. You can't ignore it. |

very, VERY nice photo essay Bill! thanks for taking the time to document our most excellent adventure and posting here and on ADVRider. and thanks for your kind words and your friendship. and thx to JB2, a man who has been a key player in several of my most memorable motorcycle memories, and this one was no exception. and, for not the first time, thx to Dave Barr for being such an inspiration. spend a minute - or better yet an hour or a day - with the man, and you come away feeling younger than you have in years, and with a renewed conviction that there's NOTHING you can't do if you just put your mind to it. www.davebarr.com, folks, if you'd like to see/hear a little more about The Man, drop him a line, or maybe snag an autographed book or DVD. thx again Reep, very well done. Reep and Ferris, It made my day and Dave's that you were able to make it. Very cool stuff. I concur with FB in hopes that they do his bike justice. There's a lot of character and stories to be told by the patina of his old Super Glide. It would be a shame if they cleaned it up... even just a little bit. One very special moment was when Dave started to tell Mark about the different things on the bike. You could literally see the memories come flooding back. The stories were priceless. There were so many coming out of his memory files that he could barley talk fast enough to keep up. If any of you folks ever get a minute with Dave ask him about the bell and the saloon. I think Ferris and I laughed until we were in tears that night as he recounted some of his adventures. The motorcycle is a unique vehicle but the people that ride them are the most unique. This is a grand thing that we are involved in. Sometimes I have to pinch myself just to make sure it's all real and not a dream. Ride Safe, JB2 |

quote:"It never occurred to me he has a disability."
It's only a disability if you let it disable you. Nice, thanks for sharing the day. I especially like how the bags are still packed. Looks like all the bike needs is a couple of gas caps and off it could go again. I wonder what all is actually inside those bags, and I'm content with never knowing. A place I feel a need to visit someday soon. |

>>> Looks like all the bike needs is a couple of gas caps and off it could go again. Believe it or not someone stole those caps from the last place the bike was on display, Mike's Famous Harley Davidson. Reep had a good idea about diluting their value so the scumbag who took them could never realize their true value. |

Gotta second what you had to say about Dave and Jerry there Reep! It's been a great pleasure to know and ride with both of them. Absolutely a great home for that bike! Not that cold back here in the old digs today as I was in short sleeves! |
