Hi everyone, we just returned from visiting my Wife's parents in Grassy Creek, NC. The 20 hr drive from Austin, TX - with the Buell S3 in the truck - was well worth it! NC and VA have the most challenging, beautiful and intense roads I have ever ridden! It was seriously cold, but most days were sunny and warmed up to 50 degrees. The worst part of the riding was having to put on 7 layers of clothing! This is my last winter without electric gear! Thank you very much to those who responded to my post for help in planning this vacation, it made all the difference. I was amazed at how little traffic there was in Mid November, the Blue Ridge Parkway and the roads were wide open, we were the sole vehicle, other than the trucks hauling X-mas trees. The roads are incredibly intense to ride and required all my concentration. The sheer number of turns and the complexity of them (down-hill decreasing radius, hair pins with dips, blind turn cresting a hill) had me in awe! A healthy dose of self-preservation is needed to make it back home. Flaws in my bike that I did not notice in Texas - came to the surface. I am upgrading the suspension on my bike! I lucked out and found an great shop near Boone called Stamey's whos mechanic rides a Buell X1, so no worries when he replaced my rear tire. In all it was a wonderful time - the best riding in many years. Enjoy.
