Posted on C3, but wanted to share this here as well. You are cordially invited to Buell Show & Tell hosted by Ray Price HD/Buell in Raleigh, NC! As many of you know, Jim Nance (Jlnance) took off from NC on his 06 Uly and headed to Seattle WA, then down to California and then is taking the southern states back home to NC. The name of his Adventure is "Loosing My Mind to Stay Sane". Along the way he's met several BadWeBrs and Adventure Riders. On Sunday, November 18th, Mike Miller has gotten Ray Price HD/Buell in Raleigh to host Jim's Show & Tell of his ride across the US on his Uly. Food and drinks will be provided. Menu is still being decided. The dealer is open from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. We could meet at Ray Price around 12:00 noon and socialize for an hour or so and check out Ray Price's Buell Wall! We will plan to eat around 1:00 p.m. and have Jim take the floor around 2:00 p.m. and then socialize some more once he's done. Feel free to bring stuff dealing with your own Buell adventure. The dealership will have a laptop and projector to show pictures or video. Mike is hoping to have an 1125R at the dealership by this date. He's also working on a few door prizes as well. What we need from you is a head count of who will be attending. Remember, we need to plan for food and drinks, so please plan accordingly and let us know if anyone will be coming with you. You can post on the thread on C3 Storm Fronts or drop me a PM. I need your response by Wednesday, November 14th. Kristi |

I got to San Francisco a bit early, so I ran a little errand. That thing in the background would be the Pacific ocean. Note the license plate from North Carolina, a state that borders the Atlantic ocean. Then I drive the quarter mile to Ed's house. His wife is out on the corner and waves to me. I'm not sure if she was waiting for me or their son to arrive, but it felt like home to me. I talked to her a while, then Ed arrived. Ed started working on my bike and sent me off riding. I took the Red bike first. It was good. Then I took the Black bike. It was FANTASTIC. He is very proud of that bike, and rightfully so. He has a new exhaust on it that is both powerful and quiet. It came off a LSR Blast. He had me take pictures so Mark could make one for Laura. We went upstairs after that and had dinner. His wife can cook. I've been eating cereal and milk since I arrived in CA. She had about 5 course to dinner I think. She was going to cook more because she was worried I didn't get enough to eat. I like her. Did I mention that she likes shoes? Ed got her this "Shoe Mausoleum." Its cast iron and marble. Did I mention that he lives up a flight of stairs? She says she is going to be buried with it. After dinner we took off the San Francisco Motorcycle Club. It's been around a while. I met some really nice people. One guy on a Blast and another on a Uly. They have a ride Saturday that they invited me to go on. It's actually in the direction I'm headed so I thought that might work well. I've looked at a map and it won't work as well as I thought, but we shall see. After the meeting I left Ed and came back to Mountain View. It was a great evening. |

Every morning, or at least every morning in CA when I go to work, I see this lady. And she greets me with "Hi James." Now there are only about 2000 people who work at this site (really,) and I'm not one of the regulars. I asked her this morning if she knew everyone's name. She simply said that it was part of her job. Impressive. |

Jim - it was great having you over! Kublia really liked you, the wife is really glad you liked her cooking, and I'm glad you enjoyed the Blasts - yeah - if Erik had done up a Blast like my Black - he'd sell a ton of them - I always get questions and inquiries - lol - have Mark or Laura contact me on the specific dimensions - that header/can combo rocks! I'm glad you enjoyed yourself! GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Remember that $0.97 pack of Allen wrenches I brought along on the trip? I really didn't think I had a use for them, as I have Allen sockets for everything I need to change a tire or belt. Little did I know I'd have to take this off. Because of a problem with this, which I just replaced a few weeks ago. When we were down in Georgia, I saw that U4euh had some of this in his toolbag. So I got myself a tube. When I got all done tonight, I had this.

personally, i'd call the Seattle to SF leg Part II. Jim's too classy to boast, but i don't think a lot of folks following along realize what a monster day that was, about the same as riding from Raleigh, North Carolina to Montreal, Quebec! |

Excellent point, Jerry. We'll call this one Jim's third Leg. HAHAHAHA. Now I crack me up! But wait, this is badweb, not adrider. I'll stop now. Looks like the boy may be delayed a bit today. All is well - no mechanical or maniacal difficulties. |

You're exactly right, Twig. He's been either riding, working, or touring for 13 days straight. I think a day of rest would be a good thing! |

I'm still in Sunnyvale. I woke up this morning feeling under the weather. I haven't slept well the last two nights and thats taken a lot out of me. But I was still intent on leaving this morning, so I got up and packed. I went down stairs to breakfast and everything hurt. I still hadn't decided to say, but I did decide to ask to see if it was possible to have the room for another day. Turns out my reservation already included Saturday which sealed the deal. I was staying. I came back to the room and took a nap. Why is it that I can't sleep at night when I'm supposed to sleep, but then day rolls around and I sleep like a baby? I woke up around 10:30 and felt like a new person. I decided to go out and find some lunch. I didn't want to deal with gearing up, so I set out on foot. There is a Kawasaki/Suzuki dealer a couple blocks down, and as I passed I saw a red bike parked out front. At first I thought it was a Blast, but it turned out to be an X1. I went in and talked to the guy who owned it. I found a PF Changs about a mile down the road (It feels good to walk.) I remember they have a great wanton soup, which seemed like a good lunch for someone with a cold. They brought me about half a gallon of soup, and I ate it all. On the way back I stopped at a little hair & nails place and got a manicure. Don't laugh, the gloves tear up my fingers. Now I'm back at the hotel. I'm trying to decided what to do. I feel pretty good. It's tempting to ride down to Bakersfield for the night, that would make tomorrows ride a lot easier. But I've got a paid-for hotel room here, so I'll probably stay. I'll go on another walk in a few minutes or else I won't be able to sleep tonight either which would really suck. |

ps: Unibear12r is in Bakersfield - you been in contact with him? ya takin' 178 east out of Bakersfield? it's a dandy road, takes you up into the mountains and past Lake Isabella (still affectionately known as Ferrisville), all the way to Death Valley. there's gas in Ridgecrest, Trona, Panamint Springs, Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley (altho not high-octane), Furnace Creek in Death Valley (high-octane), NO gas at Death Valley Junction (if you're headed that way), but there IS gas (high octane) in Shoshone if you're going that way. 178 is one of my two possible routes. It looked preferable, but google routed me around it. I'll talk 178, it looks a lot more fun. I have not talked with Unibear. I'll send him a PM in a sec. |

i *think* i remember that there's no gas between Shoshone and Las Vegas... EDIT: if you continue east on 178 from Shoshone, it'll turn into 372 at the Nevada border, and there's plenty of fuel in Pahrump, NV. there's a shorter way to get to Las Vegas from Shoshone, by going thru Tecopa Hot Springs (just a few miles south of Shoshone) and taking Old Spanish Trails east into Nevada. brings you out on NV 160 considerably south of Pahrump. My plan is to follow 190 (not 160) all the way through death valley. I'll never actually get to shoshone on that route, it takes me into NV north of Pahrump. My basis for that decision was a conversation yesterday at work where someone pointed out that 190 takes you by "the big sand dunes" and the lowest point in the US, both which sound like cool sights to see. Do you concur? |

190 will take you past the dunes (at Stovepipe Wells), but you'll completely miss Badwater (lowest point in US). about one mile south of Furnace Creek in Death Valley you'll see a right turn for Badwater (this is your old friend 178 again). not only is Badwater a cool place to say you've been and seen, but the road is great. this will ultimately bring you out to Shoshone, where you have the option of staying on 178/372 into Pahrump and NV 160, or heading down thru Tecopa Hot Springs and taking Old Spanish Trails to NV 160. the latter saves a lot of miles. |

It's much colder here than when you left. Upper 50's. If you take the "southern" route, make sure you shimmy past NO quickly. Still bad juju down there. |

There is gas in Death Vally? yes, at Stovepipe Wells (no high octane), and Furnace Creek (yes high octane). there's a small country store at each location (the store at Furnace Creek is a couple hundred yards south of the gas station), plus a restaurant at each location, altho their hours can be a little weird. there's also fuel in Shoshone (yes high octane). there's a nice little cafe across the highway from the gas station. if you go the Tecopa Hot Springs/Old Spanish Trail route from Shoshone, i'm pretty sure there's NO fuel between Shoshone and Las Vegas, i.e. consider getting fuel in Shoshone - it's a long pull to Vegas, and it's mighty lonely country out there.
