I'm in Baker City, OR. I found a motel with wireless internet, nice beds, home made brownies, and breakfast for the princely sum of $35.00/night. Brankin would like it here, a couple houses are decorated for Halloween. The amenities of the town do not seem to include cell phone service. I'm going to go across the street and get something to eat. I'll post more in a little while. |

I left Salt Lake this morning and was amazed by it's beauty. It's a city in a Valley, and the surrounding mountains are large and close. I rode up 84 into Idaho and the valleys got larger and the mountains further away. It was cold in Idaho. I don't know if it was below freezing, but it was close. That doesn't sound so cold, but the roads, while they do have some hills and curves, have very very long straight sections. I was running between 80 and 90 for miles, and the continual blast of cold air sucks out a lot of heat. There is no way I could do this with out heated gear. My first stop, other than gas, was to be in Twin Falls, where I was meeting Motokat and Rubberdown. The terrain has been fairly flat, with mountains in the distance for many miles, then all of a sudden I see this: Thats the Snake River Canyon. It's just sitting out by the shopping center. I thought it was pretty cool. I pulled in to Chili's and a Blonde woman was waving at me in the parking lot. Strangers rarely do this to me, so I assumed it was Motokat. We went in, met her husband, and had a nice lunch. She gave me some ADV stickers as we left. I'll get them on the bike as soon as I have something to clean the bags with. After lunch, I rode up to Boise to get new glasses. RAM had already called and set up an appointment for an eye exam. It ended up working out well. I'm diabetic, so I'm supposed to have a dilated eye exam every year. I've been slack and it's been two years. She did a very thorough exam which impressed me. I'm good to go for another year. Boise is exit 43, so Oregon is close. I wanted to pass the state line before I found a place to stay, just so I would only have one state to go through tomorrow. I talked to some people in the shopping center (who all think I'm crazy) and there was some concern about snow on some passes in OR. After yesterday, I take snow seriously. I set out for OR and it began to rain. I put on the Frog glove covers that Tim gave me and they worked great. Not only do they keep you dry, they keep you warm too. The rain kept falling as I drove toward OR, but it seemed to be getting warmer. I made it over 3 mountains with out any problems. The rain came down fairly hard, but after Dbird closed the vents on my jacket, I didn't have any bad leaks. I stopped in Baker City because it was starting to get cold and my legs were hurting. I'm only 380 miles from Seattle, so I should be there tomorrow afternoon! |

Jim... Be ready for lots of rain. We just had one nasty storm pass through today with another right behind it just as bad. In Portland for Friday they are calling for high winds again with lots or rain, the high of 59 and the low of 52. The weather should be close to the same for Seattle. Ride safe and if you are heading west through the Columbia Riiver Gorge on 84, you are in for a nice treat! Corso |

I'm checking the WSDOT pass information. They describe the road as "bare and wet." Sounds like my kind of place. |

My Bad, Jim's Epic Adventure Story Time coming soon to a eating place in the C3 area. Would anyone oppose me trying to get something set up for our upstairs meeting room? It will hold over 100 people easy. We have plenty of contacts for catering. |

I will need to know when MacDaddy and the Girl would be up for it. We will also need an approximate number of attendees. Then I can start on my end. How does a BBQ dinner sound? As for Harley riders, they have to accept the fact that Buells are here to stay and aren't just toys. GO NANCE GO (Message edited by mikethebike72 on October 19, 2007) |

Flynuly - I think you have sold Jim on the heated gear. He is very thankful that he has had it. Very nice of you to loan Jim all the goodies you had collected for your Alaska trip. |

Been sold for years myself, was glad to help. Kind of like Jim took me along for the ride, even though work prevented it. Hope to make story time if I'm in town. |

Well, I beat him here -- he's about 30 miles out. He said he had to cross a pass (not sure which one) and it was freezing cold. Now he gets to go over 2 bridges (to cross Mercer Island) then it's only a few miles to the hotel. From our window I can see the space needle, the skyline and the harbor. Not bad for $119 a night. There is a public parking space for motorcycles right outside the front door of the hotel. But it's on a hill. A really steep hill. I'm going to try and talk him into springing the $15/night for parking in the garage! |
