On Labor Day the S.O. and I arrived in Clayton, NM at the KOA. We trailered Groucho (2007 Black ULY) and 06 Suzuki C50 out there from Ar to save the agony of a two day ride thru OK. From there we went to Chama, NM; Cortez, Co, Ridgeway, Co., Gunnison, Co, Buena Vista, Co, Montrose, Co, back to Chama, NM and then back to Clayton. With the exception of two nights with friends in Cortez, we camped. Weather was perfect for two weeks and we visted Mesa Verde NP, 4 Corners, Hovenweep Nat Monumet, Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP, Crested Butte, Aspen, etc. The high light for me was getting to 12000+ at Cottonwood Pass and Independce pass plus numerous 10 and 11000' passes. The Uly got 50+ mpg for the whole trip while loaded down heavily and performed flawlessly. I saw another Uly at the Rio Grande crossing outside of Taos, NM,. That was the Tues after Labor Day. He was with several other bikes. I also saw one coming back just west of there last Saturday. (was it the same masked man) NM and Co have some awesome roads and scenery. If I didn't have to suffer a dial up connection I would post some pictures. Dennis Wilson, an Arkansas HellBuellie} |
