We had expected 12 or so but ended up with 8. Not bad for our 1st run. We took old HWY 58 just outside of Buttonwillow Ca. over too the coast via Santa Margarita and the 101. For those who have never had the pleasure, perfect Buell ride, its a mix of twisties, mild straights, rolling hills and some tight turn sections also. Its broken up to the point where just when your tired of the straights here come some twisties then a few little straights then BAM, tight stuff. One section has the nik name of 14 turns or corners and there real nice and tight. The run is about 140 miles one way to the Pismo pier and thats where we grabbed some grub before heading back, nice ride for all who made it. We had 5 XB's and two tubers and a Honda F4i 600, well we had him until the first REAL turn. I guess he wanted to zig but the road zagged and off the cliff he went, no real damage done but mirrors, levers and some plastic pieces. He did hurt his knee a bit but he'll be fine. All and all we had a great time, the other tuber (not mine) lost his charging system but we had jumper cables and I used my open battery area to jump and charge his batt. when needed, we did unplug his headlight and he made it all the way after that. Hope to get some not so distant local Buell guys to go with us next time so watch for a lead-in for our next ride.

Sounds like a fun ride. I've ridden from Ojai, up the 33 to Bakersfield a few times. Theres some really fun roads up there. I'm glad the guy on the Honda was ok. |
