Thought I'd share my quick trip to Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, VA.

This was my first good ride on the Diablo Corsa IIIs and I am very pleased with them. It had Tomahawks, so the difference is night and day. I was pretty surprised to when I stopped for gas after 60 miles of highway and took a look at the rear tire:

These things are soft. Can't imagine getting many miles out them. I may get one more rear Corsa III, then go to the Conti RoadAttacks.

Here are some pics of the park

For anyone in the area planning on riding Skyline, watch out for the bears! I saw 7 in 150 miles. One of them was right in the middle of the road around a blind corner. I had this vivid image of hitting the bear, going over the handlebars, and inserting my head right into his mouth. I'd never seen a bear-in-the-headlights look before, and I hope I never see it again. Deer are bad, but at least they don't weigh 500lbs and have 3" teeth. I missed him by about a foot and half and let me tell you, Smokey is way more intense in person.

I remember someone asking about the normal amount of spluge in the catch can, so here is a pic of mine after about 300 miles:

That is all I've got for now.

Happy 4th.

Nice!

For some reason your bike looks very unique. That color scheme/combo does not seem very common. I like it!

Thanks, Drake. I told you the orange rims would have looked fine on your old CityX!

Keep drag'n that knee!

Cereal- great story. Glad you missed the bear. Probably scared the s++t outta it too. Buells are pretty mean sounding. Thanks for your compliment on my Firebolt. I found you e-mail (and the link to this post). Everything did go together nicely - I am, however, puzzled by the way the fairing fits... or doesn't. it was really hard to line everything up and the lights aren't centered at all in the openings. Any suggestions/experience/pointers??? Thanks.

cereal,
very nice bike, and pics. sounds like you had a very interesting ride. i work in waynesboro and live in greenville,va. so sometimes i ride home on the blueridge parkway. which is the same starting point as the skyline drive, just heading south. anyway, i have friends that ride different types of bikes, and some of them won't ride the parkway/drive because the pavement is so rough. they say it wears tires out much faster up there. i've stopped and noticed my tires looking like yours did. i got about 5000 miles out of my mich. power pilots back tire. now i have ordered the metzeler sport touring tire. hoping to get more mileage.
thanks for posting the pics. take care.

Thanks for the compliments.

I started at the north end of Skyline near Front Royal, so I was about 100 miles from Blue Ridge.

The roads at the north end were very recently repaved, so you couldn't ask for better roads. Other than having them paint lines on it so the cagers aren't all over the place.

The pic of the tire was taken after 60 miles of hwy 66 before I got to Skyline. I don't think road conditions had anything to do with it. It's just a soft tire, and 45 minutes of 80mph will do that.

Very nice!!
I haven't been through there in nearly thirty years or so, but remember how pretty it was. I've got an Aunt in the DC area, and the last time I went in my truck. I have dreams of going to visit on a bike, would be so much better...............one of these days, I hope.
