I HAVE STARTED THIS NEW THREAD SINCE THE ORIGINAL ONE IS BURIED UNDER THE 2005 DATE.....

To the SoCal Brag Bunch.......If you were going to register for the new Paddock Passes just released hold on!It appears that once you register if you win they will charge your credit card immediatly. If this isn't cool don't register. The club(SoCal Brag/SCAB) can only afford to pay for a few.
I will call Mary J and see if we can work around this.!

Ebear, are you saying that BRAG/SCAB has or has reserved a quantity of p-passes? Or is this something that is planned for a future buy?

I signed up for the drawing a couple days ago. The number I got was under 2200, so everybody's chances look pretty good with 4 days to go unless there's a last minute run.

Also note that you can disqualify yourself by entering more than once. So if one wanted to buy one of the BRAG/SCAB passes instead, that might be a way to get out of the drawing. I don't know if there is another way to withdraw from the drawing.

I just got off the phone with Mary J. She said this is set up as a lottery. If your name is drawn they will charge your credit card immediately. The passes are $40.00 each.So I guess this means if you wan't a pass your on your own.If I win some I will loan them out so people can visit the pits but I can't ask everyone else to risk that if you don't want them for yourselves.

Info on delivering your camping gear to Ebear for the Loveshack at Laguna Seca.......

For those that have done this before...I've Moved..!!I now live in Fullerton. Coming from the north, you take Beach Blvd off of the 5 or 91 freeways and head northeast ,towards La Habra.Same with coming up from South. If your in the Inland Empire take Hacienda Blvd. from the 60 freeway and turn right at the end and then immediately left down Beach Blvd.Just south of Imperial Hwy you'll turn on Rosecrans.if you email me or call I can direct you from there. If I'm not around at the time you'll be coming there is a safe place locally to leave gear.Best to wait till July, and most weeknights and the weekend of the 10-11 I should be home.My cell phone does NOT work at the house, but my new house number is 714-525-1181 where you can leave a message,or leave on my cell phone and when it updates I'll call you back!

Here is a new press release from SCRAMP concerning traffic and parking. Basically, unless you have paid for camping or other packages that require a car, you won't be bringing a car into the track. Ride that motorcycle!!

http://www.laguna-seca.com/PressReleases/index.cfm?ID=215

MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA ANNOUNCES TRAFFIC PLAN FOR RED BULL U.S. GRAND PRIX
Plan Will Allow Better And Quicker Entrance and Exit To The Largest Event In Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca History

MONTEREY, Calif. (April 14, 2006) – The Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) announced today a traffic plan for improving the flow of vehicles and spectators in and out of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca during the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix July 21-23. Highlights of the plan include all general admission parking off-site, with spectators transported via shuttle bus; a motorcycle-only entrance; and increased staffing and directional signage.

The plan will immediately limit the number of automobiles permitted on-site at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca by providing free off-site parking at Cal State University – Monterey Bay (CSUMB) located near Monterey just off of Highway 1. From there, all spectators will be shuttled by bus onto Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca through the South Boundary Road entrance. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will continue to allow spectators to enter with personal belongings (cameras, backpacks, personal coolers, etc.), but these must be able to sit on the riders lap.

“Our first goal was to reach a solution that limited the number of automobiles on-site, and the shuttle bus system should allow us to do that efficiently. The parking is conveniently located just off of Highway 1, and will remain free of charge,” said Gill Campbell, CEO/General Manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “This is a system that works well for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament, and should help us eliminate some of the traffic strain both into the facility and throughout the community during the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix.”

All motorcyclists will be provided free parking at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Wolf Hill, traditionally the automobile parking area at spectator events. Motorcycles will enter and exit on Barloy Canyon Road, located off of Reservation Road in Marina. No automobiles will be allowed to enter or exit on this road.

“Part of the charm of a MotoGP World Championship event is that, by its nature, it becomes the largest motorcycle gathering many people will ever witness. We wanted to ensure that continued,” Campbell said of continuing motorcycle parking on-site at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “We hope this will encourage even more of our avid motorcycling base to ride to the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix.”

“We’ve pledged to improve our efficiency at the admission gates; if spectators, particularly those traveling by motorcycle, can assist us by having their tickets easily available we’ll make the entry process as painless and enjoyable as possible for everyone at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix.”

The only automobiles on-site will be those with parking passes, such as those purchased through Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in hospitality packages or teams, media and officials. These automobiles will be able to enter through one lane of South Boundary Road (shuttles will be entering in the same direction in the opposite lane) until 2:00 p.m. each day, at which point the traffic flow will be reversed and the same automobiles will exit on the same road. Teams, media and officials will enter and exit the main gate through Highway 68.

A limited number of general public on-site parking passes for Wolf Hill parking are available through Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, at a weekend price of $50. These passes are available for advance purchase only.

Additionally, as with all events at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, spectators will be able to ride for free on Monterey–Salinas Transit (MST). A shuttle schedule for MST on event weekends, including bus stops on the Monterey Peninsula and in Salinas, will be available at www.mst.org.

“One of our main goals for the 2006 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix was to dramatically improve the traffic situation during the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix,” said Campbell. “We strongly believe we’ve accomplished that. Now we can continue to grow and improve the MotoGP experience for all involved.”

Tickets for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s 50th Season of Racing, including the U.S. Sports Car Invitational featuring the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series May 5-7, the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix July 21-23, the 33rd Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races August 18-20 and the Monterey Sports Car Championships featuring the American Le Mans Series October 20-22, are on-sale now.

Ebear,

I didn't know camping with you guys was an option. I would love to do that. Please count me in. Is this an offer to carry our stuff to Laguna Seca as well as reserve a footprint for our tent? I have a couple choices for tents and equipment, so I could bring my tent that sleeps 3-4 if anyone needs cover, otherwise I can bring a smaller tent or bivy so I don't take up much space. Umm, can I drop off "provisions" at your house too? Is there somewhere near the campsite to get ice for the "provisions" before we drink them? And finally, I think it was Shawn who mentioned, when we were returning from Palomar, that he is taking a way up to Monterrey from the 33 that avoids highways. That appeals to me. Does anyone care to share a route like that for those who schedules conflict with group rides, or are there group rides?
Thanks a million,

Steve Brefka party of one, sleeping down under. No baggage to check, no tent, one bike.

Should be arriving with Geo K sometime Friday. If you need help setting up early Thurs am, I don't think Geo can make it, which puts me on the fence as I can be anywhere anytime after the races 7/16.

Hey Shawn!

When we were coming back from Palomar you described a route that includes Hwy 33 off the 101. From there to SLO is it Hwy 166 to the 101 to SLO?

And thanks for the warning, I'll bring a box of earplugs. Of course since I'm sleeping in a luxurious, camouflage, Gore Tex cocoon, I'll probably be kept awake by the sound of my own screams every time someone runs over me. Hmm, maybe lightsticks would be a good idea?

Eliminate Long Waits
Jun 28, 2006

Copyright 2006, Roadracing World Publishing, Inc.

The “Track Crossings” scheduled during the U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca are to expedite race fans across the track. Last year, waits to cross the start/finish and Dunlop Tire bridges were up to 45 minutes long. The bridges will remain open this year above the Track Crossings, where Astroturf will be temporarily laid across the track to accommodate foot traffic.

Gentlemen,

Due to a change in plans it appears that I can make it up to Laguna Seca for the Moto GP.

Since I live in Santa Barbara it's probably not much more than an easy half day ride on the Ulysses.

Obviously it is quite late.......

Nevertheless, I have no prior Laguna Seca experience and I have a small 2-man tent and camping gear.

Recommendations or advice appreciated. I'm thinking I might ride up on Saturday, spend the night and the day Sunday then ride home late Sunday.

Will it even be possible to find a place to pitch a tent arriving so late?

TIA,

Jim in Santa Barbara
