thanks RT. that's not actually the Loop, but it's close. the series was taken just above Caliente, a few miles west of the Loop. me 'n D spent Monday snooping around Stallion Springs behind Tehachapi (an area of fine homes, as the realtors would say - we found a gorgeous .48 acre piece of land overlooking the golf course and creek for a mere $149,900...) and rode by the Loop both coming and going, but saw no trains either time. in Caliente, however, we saw three eastbound freights nearly back to back, and had time to pose the bike for the series above. am loving the Road King, it's the perfect motorcycle for this sort of thing. thank you! this was last Friday, after i had sent Madduck on his way on my his Uly. i was taking the "long" way home, and sort of by design stumbled into El Mirage, home of the Southern California Timing Association land speed trials every year. this was cool, at least to me, as Madduck is big into the LSR stuff, and as it so happened last weekend was their first meet of 2006, so there was a steady stream of motorhomes and trailers heading out onto the lake bed. the first shot above is heading out on the approach road, and the second shot shows a part of the lake bed in the background. thanks again. Jerry, always like your pics. Me and 2 friends are heading through Lake Isabella in early August on a coast to coast trip. Any recommendations for lodging / chow? |

thanks Chris. you guys will want to stay in Kernville on your way thru. it's located at the north end of Isabella Lake, and is our little "postcard" community. i'd recommend staying at the Kernville Inn, cute, cozy, reasonable. Kernville is small enough that everything - food, booze and otherwise - is within walking distance. there are also three gas stations in Kernville, along with a post office and laundromat. give a shout when you guys get close to your trip. maybe we can meet somewhere and ride in with you, or at least get together for a beer or soda while you're in the neighborhood. i can also suggest motorcycle-friendly routes/roads in the general area of Ferrisville, to the north, south, east and/or west. Yeah the cigar smell is gone!! Hey the I emailed Loren (Gowindward)a couple of weeks ago regarding an annual ride. We are going to plan a fall ride in honor of FBRAT, it will be called MO-FBRAT. We plan on riding most of the roads that brought you from the Iowa state line to KC. This time I will BBQ prior to the event so I can ride!! Take Care |

We are going to plan a fall ride in honor of FBRAT, it will be called MO-FBRAT. wow, that's VERY cool! have fun, be safe, ride to lean. Your horn is crooked! yeah, well, your halo is on backwards! the horn alignment is MY bad. i had to take it off after Madduck's visit and drain about a gallon of water out of it (it was sounding like a wounded duck at the time). we had all taken a small water crossing at speed on Lockwood Valley Road, underestimating the amount of water in our path. went i went thru on the BOB the water literally exploded all around me, and apparently the horn took in a big gulp in the process. when i put it back on i aligned it with the cylinders. i'll aim it straight down at the ground, just for you, and see how it looks. ...I'll shoot you a note when we're closer to the trip... cool. I'm sure D is enjoying the SV... Now that Ferris has a new toy. Ferris, great looking bike, glad you are enjoying it. The pics of Lake Isabella brings back a flood of memories. Was it really that long ago? Bart, Hey man! How's life? When are you going to be rolling back to PA this year? I'll be making a rideout there sometime, probably early July, let's try to coordinate something. It's become a yearly tradition to hang and I missed KC a few months ago... Prior, Baby Bart |

Bart, Denise threw a giant hissy fit when i brought the Harley home, said she wouldn't be caught dead on such a pig of a bike. the new "I Love My HOG" tattoo i got on my arm pissed her off, too. we had a big fight, and i haven't seen her since. (i think she's staying down in Hanford with her folks.) cool with me, i don't have to put up with her incessant bitching anymore. yep, solo is my new middle name. Baby Bart, good to hear from you. the RK is a cool bike, very happy with the purchase so far. the suspension leaves a lot to be desired, a shame on such an expensive machine, but fixable down the road when the time is right. first upgrade is to lose the stock mufflers and airbox so the "thing" can breathe. i have about 2100 miles on it now, and the motor has broken in nicely. next fluid change (oil, trans and primary) i switch to full synthetic in all three cavities. longest day so far is 600 miles, and loved every minute of it, very comfortable and happy bike for such a thing, and it trolls down a dirt road or thru a cow pie-studded field pretty nicely, too. seems like FOREVER since you were thru here on your epic 'Ride Across North Ecuador', need to get you back and show you some of the stuff you missed while you were here. Typical pig on a pig. The Hog mentality prevails it seems -- the bigger the bike the smaller the dick. |

ok, ok, me 'n D were just funnin' with you (especially YOU, Bartimus!), we're getting along swimmingly and just wanted to see if anyone was paying attention. haven't gotten any concerned e-mails or phone calls from anyone about our "break up" so maybe we're the only ones still here??? FB&D |

It's good to hear you two were joking, but why in the hell would you get that tattoo? Figured you two were messing around, and I haven't had the time to post anything anyway. So is the SV faster than the RK or what? We'll work on the next CA trip, finishing up some accounting homework, probably be headed out after I finish up this here piece of paper degree thing. |

It's good to hear you two were joking, but why in the hell would you get that tattoo? the only tats i've ever had are the kind you wash off when you're done. maybe ONE of these days i'll screw up the courage to get one in permanent ink... i'm off on the big white scooter today, playing hooky from w*rk, headed to Death Valley and beyond, pix at 11.
