Rocket, There is a time limit on each day, but I think you can get around it if you have a doctors approval. Doing it solo is definitely possible. Bob Bergman is proof of that. Just makes it really hard sleep wise. It is also possible to do it unofficially. I friend of mine in Italy did that a few years ago. If you stop, or crash though, you're on your own. There won't be any helicopters coming to get you. He had permission from the organisers to ride with them, buy fuel from them, eat with them etc, as long as there was enough for the paying competitors first. Not sure if that option is still available as the Dakar has become full for the last few years. I'm also toying with this idea. http://www.heroeslegend.com There's some big names entered for this years ride, so they are serious about it. Maybe an option for next year? It's also more in keeping with the original Dakar concept, and quite a lot cheaper Thanks Court |

I want to give you, Pete2Dakar, a big hearty THANK YOU for bringing your quest in this year's Dakar to the BadWeb and personally, to me, for making watching the Dakar Rally (and having someone to root for) probably the best way to start off the New Year! Thanks Peter, Sparky |

There is also this no-budget alternative: http://www.amsterdamdakar.com/dakar/default.aspx (translate this dutch site with http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/tr ) It's more like an adventurous holiday than a rally, but you do get there, and in one piece. |

Hi mate, I thought about the Heroeslegend to. But to be realistic, the cost would be about 15.000€ a person. For that price I rather save 3 years and do a Dakar my self on the HP2. Let us first do the Alto Turia Rally in Spain this year. For those who wonder what the AT is, its a 6 day Rally. 1ste day is a prologue and then 5 though Rally days. Not for the weak, its dangerous enough, last year an English rider died. More Dakar riders like Simon Pavey will be there to. |

Griz, your absence from the BadWeB shows in your poor command of the Engrish vanguage. Go stand in the corner, or return to BadWeB more frequently. Nice to hear from you. Rocket |

Thanks again guys. I went back to the doc today. She's had me on anti-inflammatory pain killers for the last week so she could poke around again today. Then I had to go for x-rays. She suspected that I had broken a rib where it joins the spine, but the x-rays showed it's just muscle strain. I'm happy with that bit of news! I also had my left hand x-rayed. I chipped the bone where the joint is, but they said it's too late to put plaster on it now, and the chip is staying where it needs to be to heal, so if I'm smart with it over the next couple of weeks, all should be well.... Looking good for next year Now for a serious question. Who's got some brains regarding sponsorship raising? The 40 euro idea was great, but it didn't bring in enough to do it again that way next year. This year 75% came out of my pocket, and unfortunately that's something I can only do once These figures are not accurate as I don't have prices for a team spot yet, so it's only a guesstimation, but I'm looking at this in euros; Bike - already have it Rider entry - 9500 Bike entry - 3500 KTM service package - 2000 Tyres - still have them from this year Bib mousse - 1000 Spares - still have them from this year SpeedoCap - 500 Team mechanic package - 7500 (wild arse guess here) Extras - 5000 (visas, hotels, travel costs etc.) ------------- Total - 29,000 ------------- Dutch tv coverage - 8151.50 (5 mins if big sponsor comes on board) ------------- Total - 37151.50 There's some big money being given to people to advertise in the Dakar. How are they selling the idea to them? |

Nah, I replaced the left one with my secret weapon Xenon headlight which melts other bikes at 100 paces, so I only have it wired into the highbeam circuit |

Fellow Aussie, Christophe(#205) sent me this pic. He also hit the same washaway which put him out of the race with a dislocated shoulder, broken ribs, pissing blood, and wiped out nav gear on his bike. That's it in the background.

Pete; I'd buy an autographed action shot ... say 8x10" glossy print. You take orders as well as payment and then print, sign and send pictures. How about it. Henrik |

Peter, If you want to save yourself the effort and postage just email me the set in hi-res full size format. I have a great photo-quality printer and plenty of nice frames and high quality photo paper. I especially like the one of the ditch; that one has a lot of deep and powerful allegorical potential. All the pics are great! Heck, can I put one in the '06 calendar I'm now assembling? |
