Ok. Update time as it's been a busy couple of weeks. Biggest news is that the bike is legal! It now has a Dutch number plate..... I'd been sweating it a bit as the bike is a special build, coming in from another country. It took a few hours as although I had the correct papers, they hadn't been filled out enough in Spain for the Dutch requirements. A few phone calls etc though, and it was sorted. The first round of stickers are on! I had hoped to get a lot of pictures yesterday before I left, but the batteries were flat in camera... Damn. Today was the Dutch pre-Dakar day at one of the biggest MX tracks in Holland. The Dutch have about 60 entrants this year, so it's a big event with the public also coming along to spectate. Did I say it was cold? The forecast was for a max of 3 degrees. I don't think it climbed above zero because the track still had ice in it. A fact that I, and some other competitors can attest to, as we dropped our bikes.... Going in a straight line down a hill, then the front end sliding out. Glad the desert is warm I'll wash the bike tomorrow and take pics of all the names. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 |

I'll do my best to stop ruining the stickers. I've covered the more vulnerable with clear contact to be sure Who's ever had the enjoyment of fitting bib-mousse tubes before? Today I took out the old, and put in the new, on two front and two rear wheels. Bloody hell... what a job! Sure glad Euromaster is there as a sponsor to do it for us. It took three of us, with a tyre changing machine, over two hours to change four tubes. I kid you not. Imagine trying to take a tyre from a rim when it's inflated. Now imagine that the tube is a solid, and doesn't compress like air.... starting to see what I mean? Next time I take it to a shop that's done them before and pay them lots of money for the pleasure. They suck big time. |

Sounds like major frustration and lots of pinched and bruised fingers. Do that for twenty four hours straight with dirt in your eyes and sand in your mouth... might approach the crap storm you are preparing to face amigo. Go PETE! |

Thanks, Tripper. I guess it was sort of stupid, but still the quickest path to the answer. The live feed for your favorite was the very thing I was hoping for. I suspect there will also be some lively commentary here on the BadWeB once it gets going. I feel very priviledged to have a personal friend to follow in this event. I love rooting for the underdog; it's so rewarding when they prevail. Go Get 'em, Young Peter (At least for a couple more days) |

What’s up with the Dakar tracking site? I have to run my screen resolution up to 1024 to see the whole page. (Pretty squinty on my little 15” flat screen.) Shouldn’t the page have a scroll bar when viewed at lower resolution? I stayed up (GMT+10 out here) until Pete completed stage one cross country and hit the blacktop into Malaga, 2nd in his class if I understand this correctly. (#'s 117 thru 122?) This morning, (2200 GMT yesterday) the tracking site won't give me the standings yet. |
