i hope you can read most of this on your monitor. fascinating stuff, throwbacks to an almost unimaginable era. it was VERY cool to be riding Madduck's Ulysses through here. (Message edited by jerry_haughton on October 09, 2005) |

TBear shoots the Uly again. Travis was an AWESOME traveling partner, as excited as we were to be here, and as eager to stop (almost constantly!) for documentary photography. (Message edited by jerry_haughton on October 09, 2005) |

the plan all along had been to meet Bartimus on the south end of Phantom Creek Road where the dirt changed back to pavement. we were running behind, however, and we couldn't get a cell signal to call Bart and give him an ETA. he waited and waited, and finally headed south to Florence, Colorado, where he could wait in the shade, and where his cell phone would work. when we reached the appointed spot there was no Bart, but there were several voice mails waiting, and several minutes later we were all laughing and scratching at the city park in Florence. this is Bart's gorgeous '95 S2 Thunderbolt, one of several Buells that Bad Billy owns. he had planned to ride with us across Colorado this afternoon, but our tardiness, combined with his T'bolt being a little "moody" today, meant that he would have to u-turn and head back to Albuquerque after our rendezvous. Bart, TBear, and Ferris, in Florence, getting ready to say our goodbyes. TBear, it was great seeing you again, and finally meeting Sandy, and we thank you both for your gracious hospitality and enthusiasm. the cool thing was that we were going to see you both again at Oktoberfast in two weeks! TBear, thanks for taking a whole day out of your program to show us around, altho it looked like you were having as much fun as we were. Pikes Peak and Phantom Canyon Road were both spectacular. Bartimus: you are SO the frikkin' man! you rode 962 miles today, from Albuquerque, NM to Florence, CO, and back to Albuquerque, just to hang with us for about 45 minutes? you're either very passionate, or very, very sick. maybe both? wish we could've spent more time together, and REALLY wish we could've ridden with you across Colorado to Montrose, but, as JB2 would say, seeds for another trip. thank you for being you, and for making such a monumental effort just to come up and say hey - it's VERY much appreciated! and with that me 'n D were on our way, westbound on CO Hwy 50. it was already late, and Grand Junction seemed like a million miles away... due to time constraints we didn't get many pix as we crossed Colorado on Hwy 50. Cotopaxi looked inviting but we had to keep moving. for anyone who's never ridden 50 across Colorado, it is MAGNIFICENT!!! (Message edited by jerry_haughton on October 09, 2005) |
