Alex and i had some early morning shopping to do (more on this in a minute), but the first order of business was a visit to Kandie Land, er, i mean Starbucks, to help us recover a bit from last night. i thought this artwork, and the lighting, was worthy of a photo. after Kandie Land and a visit to Dicks Sporting Goods, i needed to update my tire repair kit with some fresh glue and got directions to the local NAPA Auto Parts. this is Sid Ellenbecker, who was fascinated by Madduck's new Uly, and simply amazed that i had been given the keys to it with permission to ride it out to California. seems one of the guys at the Appleton NAPA has a couple of Buells, and knows the Wizard, but alas he wasn't working today. back at the Wizard's Workshop i'm busy rubbing on my purchase from Dicks Sporting Goods when there's a shout from the other end of the dealership. "Hey Ferris, get your sorry butt down here, there's someone you need to meet!" turns out the "someone" was Mr. Paul Elliott, aka Madduck, who was riding thru the area on his way to a family reunion and who wanted to stop see his new motorcycle for the first time (and also size up the haulin' Hooligan who was preparing to break it in for him!) this is me, Madduck and the Wizard. i asked Madduck if he wanted to take his new Ulysses for a spin (seemed odd to be offering the rightful owner of the bike "permission" to ride it...), but he declined. Mr. Elliott is a good man, and wanted all the bike's karma and energy to be pointed MY direction, for the upcoming ride. (Message edited by jerry_haughton on September 18, 2005) |

Jug, i need help remembering the names of Spidy's two "love signs" above. (ps, how 'bout a photo credit for the pic in your profile??? ) after me and Alex and Spidy and Jugallo arrived back at the dealership (more than just a little fashionably late...SORRY!), we took several group photos with members of the Appleton BRAG chapter. photo by Computer Todd. later, after things had quieted down a little bit, we took a self-guided tour of Appleton's "Inner Sanctum" (the key to which was periodically chanting the magic phrase: "Dave said it was okay." ), and spied THIS beauty: (Message edited by jerry_haughton on September 18, 2005) |

after my gloves (which were tucked in front of my tankbag) went flying down the highway, with only one being found in the ensuing search, Spidy loaned me his red/white/blue ones for the trip (thanks!), and promptly donned my solo glove. (Message edited by jerry_haughton on September 18, 2005) |

no question, today was epic, and the ride hadn't even started yet! thanks to everyone who came to play today, and my apologies again for being late to the group photo. i HATE keeping people waiting, but we all just lost track of time at lunch, being entertained as we were with Spidy's antics. tomorrow we ride. tomorrow FBRAT is officially in the wind, and i can't wait for the adventure to unfold. Madduck, this isn't ALL your fault, but much of the "blame" lies on you. this whole idea of this gig was and is preposterous, and it took some pretty special people to pull it all off. not the least of whom was you. thank you. mileage today: 301.4 start, 371.0 end, 69.6 total (Message edited by jerry_haughton on September 18, 2005) |

ps: mine and Alex's visit to Dick's Sporting Goods this morning was so i could pick up a new baseball glove for tomorrow's visit to the Field of Dreams. all along i had planned on bringing my old high school glove, but after spending an hour rooting thru old boxes of stuff and coming up empty handed, a new glove was in order. when we got back to the Wizard's apartment tonight Alex handed me a package. "Open it up!" he said. inside was a new baseball jersey from the Field of Dreams, purchased during one of his recent recon visits there for this ride. very cool, my friend, very cool! in the pic above is my new Nike Keystone Series "Diamond Ready" baseball glove (which i had been rubbing glove oil into all day at Appleton Buell), my new jersey from Alex, and a new baseball. tomorrow we're playing catch on the Field of Dreams!!! and #2: very cool!!! we had been watching a fascinating show on TV tonight (in-between equal doses of BADWEB and BS) about the Navy Blue Angels flight demonstration team , and when a new recruit is accepted to the team (after an EXHAUSTIVE process of elimination), the formal greeting, shouted in unison by the entire group of pilots, is "Welcome to the team, a$$hole!" thanks Wizard, glad to be part of the gang.
