"Then conquer we must, for our cause is just, " Should be... "Then conquer we must, for our cause it is just, " I was born 163 years to the day after that night . Thanks for posting that Jerry. Not too many people realize there is indeed more to the anthem than what they sing before a NASCAR race. (Message edited by m1combat on July 28, 2005) |

One more note... I heard that nearly ALL of the Americans in that fort were dead. The remaining soldiers were piling the dead bodies against the flag pole in an effort to keep it in the wind. They figured that if the flag was still waving proudly in the morning that the British would realize that they hadn't won and would leave. I'm not certain how true that portion of the story is but it certainly makes the hair on the back of MY neck stand up. |

Thanks Al! It's so easy nowadays to let the media and the feelings of others worldwide diminish our pride and our knowledge that we are BAD ASSES!! That article was an eye opener( despite the bad pseudonym of the writer) and made me remember that we are a great nation!!! AMERICA ROCKS!!! |

Damnit... I'm pretty sure I have to buy one of those. I mean... the XB just isn't going to cut it two up for long rides... and it really doesn't do dirt roads TOO well (although it's not bad)... and they could theoretically be used as parts bikes if something breaks on either one and I need to ride THAT one... and it looks really cool (the first thing that attracted me to the "R"... and Jerry will have one so I need to keep up with the Jones's... and what better way to test out Dunlop's new tires? and it's for a good cause (someone help me come up with one... quick), and I'm pretty sure I only live once... and it's THERE... |

Don, i'll have Madduck's 12X here during Oktoberfast (having just done a cross-country break-in ride on it), and we *should* have at least three others here as well. will be fun to see what the things are really made of. yep, pretty sure we only live once. |

Looks like we won't be bringing Bart, he left me a voice mail Sunday saying that Sunday was his last day in Phoenix before moving to Albuquerque NM. He said he'll be coming back a couple of weekends in August to finish up. |

Bart and Ferris, Anything is a possibility. I'm not necessarily up to putting my job up for auction for a trip (BART), but we'll see what transpires. I got the short end of the stick with the vacation thing, the new'uns they are hiring are coming in a 10 days, I'm an old'un and get 5. 15 next year though, with an option to buy 8 more. I could do a hell of a trip next year and be paid for the whole damn thing. Which I am planning on doing. Bart, clear a day or two, never spent any time in New Mexico other than that 4 corners place when I was about 16" tall... IF I play my cards right and step lightly at work, there may be a few extra days on the road for this trip. I have a craving for some more OK Joes BBQ, and haven't ridden Colorado with Ferris, yet... |

Sounds like the making of a Colorado/New Mexico road trip. I couldn't think of two better friends to ride the rockies with then you and Ferris. Vacations are certainly a possibility now for me, since the company I am with loves me soooo much, and really go the extra mile to make sure I get some ride time in. ("sure you can haul one of your bikes in the company truck, no problem" ) The mountains are Beulltiful here in Northern New Mexico, and we ALL know how great the rockies are. Now that I'm in Albuquerque, I'm closer to the main east/west throughfares, and can meet folks as they pass through. September is a bust for me Ferris, if I blow off the ridefest, I can possibly make the OctoberFast. decisions, decisions... I can't wait to see the write up and pictures following THIS adventure, Mr. Yamamotosan!!! |

thanks Bart, and good luck with your new program. would LOVE to have you show us around NM some time. me 'n FMJ did a BRAG ride with Chick and Erik and a TON of Buellers up to Taos in '99, had a blast, and GORGEOUS country. won't be an Oktoberfast next year, at least as we presently know it, and the year after that who knows... have fun and be safe Bart, looking forward to seeing you wake up New Mexico. FLASH FLASH FLASH FLASH FLASH My friend Don, to be addressed here forth as the infamous "DUC", is going to make a personal appearance at OctoberFast. Why is this so monumental you say?? Well... Duc is retiring from active duty with the US Army, after 20 years of faithful devotion to duty this fall, and is making his farewell "Quak Killz" tour of the US. He has completely appended his planned itinerary to include, specifically, the OctoberFast hiatus in the Sequoias, after reading this archive and last years historical post. But again, you ask yourselves, so??? He will be traveling all the way from the East Coast, Maryland to be exact, to ride here in the Giants with us!! I will be honored to ride along side both him and the great company of OctoberFast, and honored to be part of his Active Duty Retirement Tour. I am not sure if Duc will post here, though I know he has seen the writing on these pages, and just to add to the anticipation Ferris, Duc is in cahoots with DaveS, and you know what that means?!?!?! "Add ANOTHER XBX'r to the hurl deck"!! |

Posted on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 - 06:02 pm: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Howdy Guys...My first time posting to your area....This is my last ditch effort to entice you great folks(and I know you are 'cause Ferris said so!) into coming to Oktoberfast!.... I remember the original attempt to do this was somewhat thwarted because someone accused Kalifornicate of thinking it was the "Golden State"....well,it is!...LOL...but not for what you think! What makes it THAT way is not the housing costs or the high cost of anything...rather it is the incredible kindness and generosity of some of the people(much like alot of YOU people) that call this their home... I'm talking about people like Jerry and Denise and Al and Joanne and Don and Arlene(Ar'lean') Sabatino and on and on.Jerry and Denise open their homes to us unselfishly and ask US to come there and stay, and drink their beer and use their stuff and they feed us and let us plod through their home with no issue and no agenda other than to see us have a great time and get to know them for the wonderful people they are....It just DOESN'T get any better than this...just ask ANY of the past participants....go ahead....I'll wait...........................................................OK...convinced ?????...you should be !!!And since I feel the cost of the trip to The Giant Sequoias might be prohibitive to some(God only knows I certainly don't have alot of extra money these days!)If you examine the cost versus the "value received" this may be the cheapest "Best Time" you can have legally! Consider the Lodge cost.... Friday night.....cost...$0 Saturday night...cost...$99.00 Sunday night.....cost...$99.00 Now,what do we get for this $200 bucks???? How about 2 dinners from a fine Chef..at minimum worth probably about $25.00 each..2 lunches worth at minimum $15.00 each and 2 breakfasts worth about $10.00 each......adds up to about $100.00 bucks..subtract from $200.oo bucks equals 50 bucks a night,to stay with the oldest living things on earth..no,not me and Ferris!!..but the most INCREDIBLE trees you'll see around. And to hang with your Bueller friends and if you bring kids the lodge will show them one of the most fun and educational times they could spend in the Outdoors...Now...how could you NOT come??????? Got ME!!!!so if you might reconsider, and were all hoping you do,please check out the Oktoberfast 2005 thread and reserve your space at the Montecito Lodge...and we'll be awaiting you with outstretched hands(holding some GREAT beers) for your arrival.....Cheers!!!! |

If it was my regular job I wouldn't even have to be "sick" (like today! ha-ha) but this is a special gig with friends I do every year and they depend on me. My substitute arrangements fell through and at the moment I don't see another way. Making Springfast and then Octoberfast would make for a Great two wheel year. But I've got no room to be upset as I've been a part of a LOT of great rides/times with many of you just this year. And there is still more coming up! In fact I would have to rate this as the best motorcycling year of my life even having to miss Ofast and that would be in no small part due to all of you! Thank you. Sides I don't think I could stand even the sight of another Goldschlagger bottle yet-and Jerry had the Lodge stock up! |
