It's near impossible to clean puncture wounds because you don't get to the bottom of the puncture. Cuts are much easier to clean and nowhere as worrysome. Tetanus is EVERYWHERE around us and it's not so much as if Tetanus was present as to how much your system is resistant to it. It is nasty stuff. I would be heading in for the shot if I were you my friend. |

quote:This toxin, tetanospasmin, ranks with botulism toxin as the most potent known microbial poison. It is taken up from the blood by the outermost nerves and moves inward toward the spine at a rate of about 10 inches a day. After 7 to 21 days, it begins to short-circuit nerve signals and block the relaxation of muscles. This results in sustained muscle contractions, notably the lockjaw for which tetanus is nicknamed. Spasms of the jaw or facial muscles may follow, spreading to the hands, arms, legs, and back and blocking the ability to breathe. Spasms are often precipitated by noise or touch. Once tetanus has spread, the mortality rate is approximately 40%, even in modern medical facilities.

thanks for the shove, guys, just got back from the local health clinic after getting, as Mikej so eloquently put it, "the damn shot." couldn't remember the last time i had one, and after Googling "tetanus" and scaring myself with what i read i decided it was the right thing to do. hope all you Oktoberfasters appreciate the campfire this year. |

Looks like it'll be a great camp fire this year. Beer is good but panzie or not that other gold flecked mind warp stuff is NOT a part of my party plans this go-round! |

I made reservations at the Lodge. And Red ,White & Blue suspenders for the riding pants to fit with the patriotic theme. Or should I look for a fancy red & blue shirt to go with the infamous white shorts? |

Mrs. Sandblast (mind if i call you "Pipes"? ), no lynchings here, as this ride (and all others i've ever put on) are open to all riders and bikes, regardless of brand, gender, experience, color, country of origin, or favorite position. in other words, you'll fit right in! we're up for company here at the ThunderDome anytime after 12 noon on Friday 9/30. the party, if last year was any indication, will last far into the night. (be sure not to miss the "Contest of Manliness," starring your very own Sandblast...) Saturday and Sunday nights we stay at Montecito Lodge (Sunday will be a PERFECT day to explore Sequoia and Kings Canyon on the bikes), then depart the lodge Monday morning pointed in the direction of Lake Isabella. Monday's ride back to the ThunderDome (up and over the Mighty 190 and Western Divide Highway - yummy!) includes an afternoon dinner stop at the Ponderosa, then the final bomb run down the Kern River towards the 'Dome. FRI 9/30 - overnight at the ThunderDome SAT/SUN 10/1-2 - overnight at Montecito Lodge MON 10/3 - closing ceremonies ( i.e. "Get out and STAY out!" ) at the 'Dome. btw Pipes, prior to beginning the Contest of Manliness on Friday night i'm counting on you to lead us all in a rousing rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. anyone who forgets the words gets thrown off the effin' mountain... Kobie has access to a fifth wheel toy hauler and a diesel truck but where to park it??? Or should we do one of those $200/night hotel rooms??? Let me know buddy.
