So will I have to hurl Reindog off the deck as my initiation?? |

Reindog, even though U have been on a diet (Miami, South Beach, Palm Beach, Palm Springs diets...and then there is the "Modelo Dark" diet), I doubt that FMJ can hurl U over the hurl deck. Rdog, do U think FMJ needs more schooling on just what the hurl deck is, and what benefits it provides? |

Jim, The Hurl deck lies adjacent to the humongous pile of syrupy beers that Mr. Bueller managed to stash away in Dandy's cabin last Fest. At no additional cost, it affords stupendous views of the lake to any overpartaker of said beer pile who is impelled to clear the stomach the old fashioned way for the next round of beerage. |

Scott, years of wrestling and being fairly versed in the "Firemans' Carry" may give me a slight advantage.Might ask Mr Haughton about what I use for an oil filter wrench--- |

I'm sure that FMJ could persevere if he didn't catch me in a moment of my treachery. But we digress O'fast is a heading our way. Laurie is with the program and she too, can't wait for the proceedings to begin. Is anyone else from NorCal attending? |

Reindog/Forger Tom, you mean THIS "humongous pile of syrupy beers"??? re: FMJ, me 'n Alex managed to get him pretty well lit at the kick-off party for the RANE ride last year, enough so the Fireman became not only loud(er), but ALSO silly. therein, i believe, lies the best chance this year for him to be hurled from the Hurl Deck (or, perhaps, hurled ON from the Hurl Deck). which gets me to thinking (PLEASE STEP AWAY FROM THE SMOKING BRAIN!). i mentioned earlier the concept of importing an inflatable device of some sort (sex toys will be considered on a case-by case-basis) here to the 'Dome to give EvAl KnievAl something to leap onto during Friday night's Contest of Manliness, but the more i think about it (oops, more smoke...) the more i worry that he'll simply bounce off the damn thing and then proceed to tumble off the mountain and end up in a bloody heap down on the beach. this would be hugely entertaining, no doubt, but would be time-consuming due to clean-up and identification, etc., and besides, we'll already have our hands full with the local fuzz explaining why there are a dozen obnoxiously loud motorcycles in the garage being, well, obnoxiously loud (with Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" suitably juiced up on the CD), and then there's the thorny issue of having to convince the local fire department (again) that the massive, illegal bonfire we just ignited is actually a modest, mellow BBQ. (hmmm, having FMJ around may come in handy after all...) so, my thought (cue more smoke) is this: what if we set up said inflatable/s just off the Hurl Deck at Montecito? i see several benefits. 1) EvAl won't have so far to jump, yet it's still far enough that he may actually get badly hurt and we'll have then gotten our money's worth in pure, unadulterated, alcohol-enhanced entertainment value. 2) when Al DOES jump, FMJ will be right there to apply mouth-to-mouth, whether he wants to or not. (Tom, this would be YOUR signal to get in on the act, i.e. be the hurler, not the hurlee.) 3) we could surreptitiously rig a remote-controlled pulsing blue light in amongst the trees, and then watch and giggle as Sandblast TRIES to act all nonchalant and brave, all the while trembling and quivering and mumbling something along the lines, "I SWEAR I'm not lying, there IS a blue light out there!!! Hey, do you guys mind if I stick around a while longer???" NOW we've got a party! (why do i get the feeling that Zach is gonna be the only responsible adult of this bunch?) |

FMJ...oh yeah. I forgot you really are a FM! And better yet, Reindog has been on a diet this last year, making it even easier to hurl him off the hurl deck. |

Hey guys, Went out and flogged the XB through 245 yesterday (amazing how you can beat these things, and they just keep coming harder and harder, the XB that is !!!), and it was GREAT!! They have repaved about 2/3 of the road now, in great big sections here and there, made most of the bridge crossings a bit wider, but the guys who painted the stripes must have been hammered, as at times the north bound lane is only 3 feet wide in the turns!! Road was pretty clean all in all, until you get above Pinehurst (??), little trash in a few of the apexes, but nothing too bad!! Was a real fast road though no doubt, better then I remember from last year. While finances might keep me from staying at the lodge this year again, I will be there for the ride at least from the 'Dome to the lodge again, so you can count on at least one more porch rat Friday night!! cool, Bruce, we appreciate you checking out that part of the route for all of us! we were just up there several weeks ago. 245 was as tasty as ever, but it was just after a serious rain and the road was damp and dirty, so we had to slow down and actually see some scenery for a change... me 'n D just got back a few minutes ago from making a firewood run for the Oktoberfast Friday nite campfire here at the 'Dome, pix in a bit. nice to get that particular chore checked off the list so early this year. Bruce, start savin' your pennies, staying at Montecito is half the fun. i know it's not cheap, but the ambiance (not to mention convenience) of being right there in the parks, plus no extra out-of-pocket for ALL of your meals, makes it all worth it. REALLY hope you don't have to "commute" back and forth. look forward to seeing you here on Friday for the start of the festivities; we'll be up for invaders anytime 3 p.m. Sept. 30th. FB&D |

as mentioned above, me 'n D just got back from scarfing up some free firewood that the afternoon winds have conveniently pushed up against the NE shoreline of Isabella Lake. this stuff is already campfire-sized, thick and gnarly, no cutting necessary. score! first, tho, i had to deal with stepping on some manner of bone "spear", which went thru my sandal and into my big toe. ouch. the bleeding had stopped by now, as we had just spent 10 minutes with alcohol swabs and Neosporin from the first aid kit trying to squeeze out the "poison" and prevent a potentially nasty infection. as i type this my foot is soaking in povidone-iodine, which will be followed by hydrogen peroxide and more Neosporin. REALLY should go get a tetanus shot, but i hate going to the emergency room. will keep an eye on the toe and see how it goes. (Message edited by jerry_haughton on June 20, 2005) |

ok, "repairs" out of the way it was back to work! a small water crossing we had to deal with, fortunately not deep enough to have to rig a snorkel to the air cleaner. (Message edited by jerry_haughton on June 20, 2005) |

Tetanus shot would be a *very* good idea. Lock-jaw ain't no laughing matter (I crack myself up ) If you have a local primary care physician, he/she may very well be able to give you the shot?? Henrik |

Henrik, do you know what the early symptoms are? if i start noticing symptoms, is it "too late" to get a shot? |

Henrik, my first thought exactly. Nearest MD is the ER the other side of the lake and after Ferris' last encounter with the doc on call (who 'bout had a melt-down when I asked him if possibly a steroid for a relentless sinus infection might help), doubt even I have any power to get him there. Maybe I should open the Merck to "lock jaw." |
