I hope someone can help me with info. Can someone in Europe who have done a trip to IOM give me some travel info. My departure point will be Berlin and would like to go by car as we will be more than 2 persons. I also intend not to take a car over to the island by rather leave it at a ferry point in Europa or at Liverpool.Also if someone did it via the tunnel rail from France. Websites or telephone numbers in this regard will help me much as I am getting visitors from South Africa in for the trip. Regards Eugene | ||

Eugne, I can send you links to all the Ferry operators and Eurotunnel next week since all my links are on the computer at work. There is also an airline that lands on the island. don't know which yet. A couple of us here in Belgium will be going there on 25 May. Choptop, The only good advice I could give is take everything at your pace (if nobody can keep up with u then that's their problem!!!). Lots of Germans have died because they get so enthralled in the racing on public roads they forget where they are and start to frequent the wrong side of the road and meet up with local traffic head on...to be avoided so keep left!! Absolutely NO speeding in towns or villages, the cops are everywhere....you will probably be warned before hand by guys coming the other way but don't rely on it. Keep going round and learn the course....don't make a mess of the Gooseneck as everyone sits there just waiting for some beginner to mess it up and hit the bank!! Take it easy going round the bungalow, the tramlines do put you off.... Get ready to follow the course car which re-opens the roads after a race.....you know the road will be clear so you can go banzai.......always travel round clockwise unless you like scaring the sh*t out of yourself.......imagine sharp lefthander...drift out to the centreline...meet 10 bikes coming the other way all fighting for the racing line!!!! Keep it real.....oh, and have a decent pint of Bushys for me.....very envious..... | ||

Just got back from the Isle of Mann TT on sunday. What an experience. We were only able to go for the practice week so we missed Mad Sunday and the races. Rode the cource a couple of times (within the speed limets, sucks going slow). Got to ride a couple sections hard, but were slowed by R1 riders almost stopping before curves. Worked as pit crew for Dwight Mitchell. He is an american racer riding an MV Agusta, cool bike.      More pics to follow SteveP | ||

Steve, great pics, keep em coming. Dwight, after a truly horrible time practicing, got up to I think 64th in the Formula one race and 54 in the Production TT. Not bad considering he had about 3 labs of practice. Dwight seems like a really good guy. I have talked with him quite a bit when he was setting up the Team USA TT. ( http://www.dm8.com/news.htm ) Those MV's look slick. The TT has to be the only place that you can show up, volunteer to work on someone's pit crew AND GET THE JOB! Pretty cool. You can also volunteer to be a marshall and see the races really close up. The place is sick isn't it? I know they have speed limits now in many places on the race course but there are still many many roads with out limits that are an absolute gas to ride on. How did your Buell do? I have been twice and and hoping to go back in 2005 for my tenth wedding anniversary. Dave | ||

I just check iomtt.com and they are now show Dwigth with 50th in the F1 TT at just under 100 mph and 60th in the Production race ate 101 mph. Don't know if he qualified for a replica trophy or not. congrats to Dwight. | ||

When I go back i want to stay in a hotel like the one in Union Mills that is right on the track. Roll out of bed at 5 am to watch practice in my pajamas, that would be fun. | ||

Dave, The bridge is just behind the corner of the Raven Pub. You have to go through the pub to see the jump. Was not able to get any pics from there because i forgot to bring more disks for my camera. Dwight did not have the proper springs for the road. He spent 4 days on the phone trying to get new ones sent overnight. but they never came. Springs for the MV cost over $2000 each. The Buells ran great. After we left Creg-Ny-Baa by the back way, we caught up with a GXR750 and another Bike. They seemed to know the road and were suprized to be unable to loose 2 Buells, an S3T with bags and an S1W. Few American understand how crazy these people over here are. I will post some pics of the side cars later, they are realy nuts. | ||

Dwight did finally get his springs but pretty much got no practice. colin Edwards was at the TT for the first few days and got a car ride around the circuit and a lap on a street bike. Both with the roads closed. He pretty much thought the racers were nuts. | ||

Neil, all I have is a tape of the race. They had a camera right by his hip when he came in for a pitstop and at the end of the race. The gloves are not like chainmail, but very reminiscent of the articulated plate steel gloves that came later. Absolutely marvelous protection by the look of it. The TT looks like an entirely different kind of racing from what we see at the tracks. The exceptionally long course must require a great deal more memorization/experience to ride it well, and the length of the race must surely put greater physical demands on both man and machine.
