if you can picture Sturgis with dirt bikes instead of Harleys, well, this was Randsburg this fine day. (Message edited by jerry_haughton on March 07, 2005) |

pretty cool old Dodge truck, still remarkably intact save for the fact that everything was missing from the cab back. seems they'd cut one of these things in two, pull it over the top of a mine shaft, and use it to drag diggings up and out of the mine. the engine in the truck is fully intact, including belt, hoses, plugs and wires. given a reason (and a little bit of farkling) i bet it'd still make noise. the colorful creator of the fleet pictured above, unashamedly possessed with a child-like glee at the fact that people will pay good money for "junk" (her words) held together with a little wire. yep, one of her custom motorcycles followed us home, and is now comfortably ensconced with all the other m/c "junk" in our living room. this Crusty Old Fart had a Harley Owners Group pin i wanted, one from a HOG club in Italy. would make a fine addition to the garage, i reasoned. (he's holding it in his hands in this photo.) onnery and gruff, his price was too high so we carried on. later, after lunch, i went back and offered him about 60% of his original asking price. he snatched the money outta my hand in an eye blink, leaned inside the store and growled at the lady behind the counter, "Hey, this rube just gave me $XX for that $2 pin!" yer basic Joshua tree flower bud, about the size of a softball. the spikes guarding these trees will do you in if you're not paying attention. i left my helmet and gloves on while i grabbed these pix. there you have it, another little glimpse of our Home Town, about a 180-mile round trip when it was all said and done, and a GREAT way to remember what it's all about. thanks Denise. Hey Ferris and Denise...Good to see ya out on such a magnanimous day!I got a story on them darn Joshua's...'Bout 30 years ago me and a few buds were out "reposessing a few varmints" around Hesperia and as I slid down a hill I caught a couple of them spikes in my shin. That night with a lot of needlenose pliers work I got one of them out..(it had stuck in the bone!)..the other one went under the skin and as I tensed my calf muscle you could see it move around under the skin.Kinda numbed my shin for a couple of weeks.....6 months later I felt a pain in the BACK of my calf muscle...you can guess the rest...it popped out of the back of my leg looking about the same as it went in,over an inch long and still bright green!!..............Was with Scott cruising around this weekend...were talking about 2 days in the BIG TREES this Oktoberfast....can't wait!! |

Beautiful! After the weather this last week yesterday was too good to pass on. You need to talk that hard working girl into a few more riding breaks. She makes a far better model for your photos than that big lummax in the black suit! (Message edited by unibear12r on March 07, 2005) |
