I certainly understand about trying stuff on - I'm pretty funny-shaped, and with the changes my body went thru this summer, none of the old sizing rules appear to apply anymore. I've NEVER worn a M helmet, but for some reason, my new Shoei is a M. L and XL (my usual size, depending on brand) were cavernous. Can heads shrink when you lose weight? lol... Any time you're thinking about heading this way, drop me a note with what you want to see, and I'll let you know if we have it in stock. If it's in my other store, I'll get it brought down. We're still in the minority as far as the Buell-to-HD gear ratio, but (I think) we've got a pretty good Buell selection. We also stock Icon gear. And, we've got a parts request page on our website (buelloffrederick.com). |

I have a new Buell helmet I had to order that does not fit and can not be returned to the harley dealer. I won't do that again. Court the dealer agreement must be one sided as no dealer close to me has any accessories in stock. This is a real sore subject to me. |

>>>>Court the dealer agreement must be one sided as no dealer close to me has any accessories in stock. I doubt it has anything to do withthe agreement. Both the local, Liberty and Danbury, dealers I've been in lately have so much stuff in stock they're busting at the seams. I thought I'd catch the guys at Liberty when I order a Buell handlbar bag and underseat bag for the Ulysses and the guy simply picked it from stock and I walked out with it. You make a good point however. . . . generally if it's not in stock, I don't buy it. I did order and wait for all the "Cop Add-ons" for my Uly but mostly just to see if they COULD be ordered and if so how long it would take. That stuff just sits here in a box. I'd never buy a helmet, from a HD dealer, BMW dealer, Ducati dealer or Yamaha dealer without making sure it fit. Sell it on Badweb. . . I just bought one here. |

Dear Buell Engineers, Several procedures in the service manual, including tire and belt changes, call for removing the idler pulley. It is often difficult to get the pulley on and off it's mounting studs due to belt tension and clearance with the foot peg bracket. This procedure would be much easier if the pulley was mounted with bolts rather than on studs. This would allow the pulley to be rotated downward rather than requiring it to be slid entirely off the studs. This would be a great thing to see on the 2010 models. Dear Mechanical Engineers lurking on BWB, What are the advantages of attaching things with a nut and a stud rather than a bolt? Is the stud stronger? |

What are the advantages of attaching things with a nut and a stud rather than a bolt? Is the stud stronger? I'm no ME, but I do know that on all my performance cars I upgrade from headbolts, to head *studs*. I believe you can get more clamping force out of a stud because you're not rotating the shaft when you torque (torsion), like with a bolt. My empirical evidence is all the headgaskets I pop with bolts, at 24psi of boost, versus all the headgaskets I *don't* pop at the same boost level with studs. You set the stud, set the head (or other component), and torque (twist) only the nut for installation, not the whole assembly. Just a thought (haven't done it yet, but getting ready to - tread is going away) - when you do a rear wheel removal, would it work to pull the rear axle and let the wheel come forward some to release belt tension, before you pull the idler? Again, haven't done it yet, so I don't know how far forward it can go before hitting something (fender, swingarm)...but it may be enough to reduce the loads on the idler assembly. <shrug> |

Temperature question - what is the minimum recommended ambient temp for riding an 06 Uly? Or does such a spec exist? I'm toasty warm with the right gear down to around 10, but I get worried about the bike not warming up, cold/brittle metal, etc. Does the factory have a recommendation about this? (Other than "come in out of the cold, dummy"...) |

There is going to be a Homecoming this year. What we don't know is: 1) Is the Company going to put it on or are we going to have to roll our own like we did with the 20th? 2) When? I have to schedule my vacation time from work, and it would help me greatly if somebody would let us know. I also need some lead time to get the Giveaways made. |

I just wanted to thank Buell for sending an engineer to the Cleveland IX Center motorcycle show. Unfortunately, I didn't catch his name. You could tell he enjoys what he is doing and truly cared about the products. It was really refreshing to talk to someone who knew more about Buells than I did. (My experience with Harley sales has been less than pleasant. One didn't even know the 1125r came in colors other than black.) It took me a few weeks to find Western Reserve Harley Davidson and a knowledgeable Buell staff. It is great to work with other Buellers. I'm on my second Buell and the road to happiness. Keep up the good work! (Message edited by jjr1125 on January 31, 2009) |

Most of the time when studs are used instead of bolts, it's on an item that stands a fair chance of being removed or disassembled often (or at least many times in a normal life cycle)....especially if the part the stud goes into is aluminum or other alloy....using bolts instead of studs will rapidly wear the threads out... It is also true that studs can be made stronger and more importantly with less stretch than bolts in certain applications and provide better clamping force and geometry...my experience with nitrous oxide has been similar to RatBuell's boost experience...in a production engine it's a balance of what is required and cost. Danny, ask the dealer to install a #16207-79D isolator...it will work as a direct replacement..I have one on my Blast now...the stock Blast #L1501.TA isolator is very failure prone, especially if the bike is ridden hard. I went through 3 stockers in 5K miles. Tire wear: 2,500 to 3,000 miles is about average tire life...but tires for the Blast are relatively inexpensive. The stock Pirelli tires are very soft and sticky with excellent traction, so they wear a bit fast. The clunky transmission can be helped with careful clutch and primary adjustment (the adjustment method in the service manual will give you an excessively tight primary and cause hard shifting because it binds up the clutch) and the use of good transmission oil along with attention to riding technique.. Check out the Thumper section...there is a vast store of knowlege in the Knowledge Vault...I love this web site. |

Anything else? If so, drop me a note and it's easy to take care of. This is really impressive that we've only found one this year. Someone did a really good job! If you ever want to get a sense of what's involved, rolling all this stuff out at once, try typing 52 pages of the phone book and see how many errors you get. Thanks for the "heads up" . . . . no one has a better eye than Buell owners as we proved last year! Court |

Oh My God, How long can it possibly take for the warrenty department to make a decision. Its not a hard choice replace the engine or repair the engine. You buy a new bike thinking everything will be great with it and you have the peace of mind that its covered under warranty, but 5 weeks sitting in the shop for mechanical issues in the middle of summer and Im still waiting for a decision is a bit rediculous. If this is the standard wait times I think if I ever see my 1125R I'll just have to ride it over to my Honda dealer and buy a CBR1000. I hear those riders get to actualy enjoy there bike. |

As long as we're nit picking the Buell.com website, I found these questions on the Buell.com FAQ page: Question #17 Are there any BuellŪ models being discontinued? valid question Answer All of the models that were offered in 2005 will be offered for 2006. Additionally, we have added the Lightning LongŪ XB12Ss and UlyssesTM XB12X. Check out the Bikes & Gear section of the BuellŪ Web site for more information. huh? Question #36 Where can I find information on 2008 BuellŪ products? people still ask this question? Question #88 How many issues of FuellŪ magazine will there be in 2007? my question would be regarding 2009 since I haven't received a single one yet.

Sigh. I got an email from Harley today telling me it's my last chance to buy a sportster and be able to trade it in within a year for full retail. Sigh. Having a sense of history, I am probably more sympathetic to the sportster then most, but even I don't see it as an "upgrade" from an XB9SX. Not even close. If you want to get my attention, make me an offer I can't refuse for trading in the 9SX on an XB12XT, or an XB12SS leftover. I probably won't, but that is at least an offer that won't insult me... (Whats next, 10% off of all leather and chrome accessories for my blacked out sportbike?) |

I have a Buell riding (M2) Uncle who's day job is as a "chrome consultant" at the local dealer....a bit of irony in that IMHO. LJ is good at his job, but I thought he was joking the first time he told me what his job title was. It's one of the reasons Buells are not a favorite with most H-D salesmen. We don't drop thousands on chrome accessories for our bikes immediately after purchase. We buy riding gear,(hopefully) then ride. So our bikes not only have a lower ticket price we don't bump up their commissions by financing a lot of farkles. |
