2008 Fuel Consumption Ok.. I have over 2000 miles on my 2008 Ulysses. I have been keeping track of my mileage, every fill up documenting the miles & gallons & keeping receipts. My Buell has been steadily averaging 30 MILES PER GALLON!!!! This is my 2nd Buell, my 2002 X1 averaged 45-50 Miles per gallon & even better on the open road. My 2005 Triumph Tiger averaged 40 Miles per gallon & its best ever mileage was on a trip, with the girlfriend & 60lbs of luggage, we got an average of 51 miles per gallon!!!! This on a bike cruising at 6000 rpm at freeway speed. BUT! MY 2008 Uly with just me on it, is averaging 30mpg??? What gives. All the 2006-2007 owners claim amazing MPG, what did Buell do with the DDFI 3 system that ruined the MPG on these bikes???? I am planning on turning it in under warranty to the dealer, for a Low RPM V-twin should not be getting this type of Mileage. My Toyota Pickup is getting 24MPG, this is just pitiful! I think all of us having issues should start turning our bikes into the dealer to force Buell to recognize their specs on their 2008 models are flawed. I can tour on a bike getting 110 miles before the fuel light comes on? |

I'm getting 43 MPG on my '08 XT, and it's not even broken in yet. Obviously, there's a problem with yours, but I don't think it's in the design, or that the specs are flawed. |

*****BUMP***** For the Buell elves; I have a 2008 XB12R with a Special Ops pipe installed. My questions are; 1) Do I need to have my ECM re-mapped? 2) If I do an airbox mod to allow more airflow, do I need to have my ECM re-mapped? Thanks!! |

Dear Buell Technical staff: Why does the design for XB's Showa front forks and axle use axle installation from left hand side (LHS) rather than right, e.g. the XB's rear axle? What are the engineering benefits of installing front axle into the internally-threaded fork lower casting, in comparison with conventional axle/fork designs that capture the axle via external nut? Why-oh-why did you have to combine the above elements, which requires the left-handed axle thread, and ALSO use an obscure metric thread, which in turn makes thread repair for the RHS fork lower casting (via impossible-to-find M24x2.0LH tap) so difficult?! Your response appreciated. Please enlighten me. |

I've got kind of an odd problem... I've already called customer service and asked to speak with the tech guys, but unfortunately that's not an option as I'm not a dealership... I'll sum it up with the short version: The intake cam bushing that should have been installed in the gearcase cover of my 2003 Buell Blast apparently was never installed when the bike was built. It took me a couple of oil seals and about 1200 miles to figure it out. I've already called customer service and been assured that this would be passed along to the technical service folks, but I haven't heard anything so I'm skeptical. Just seems like something that you all would want to know about for your quality control people. I found this especially interesting since when I spoke with the service guys at the dealership that I bought the replacement gaskets and bushings at had seen this exact same problem (surprisingly) on an 04 Blast as well. I hope to be pressing in the new bushings soon, but I've got to get my hands on an arbor press and some reaming tools first...

Is there anyway to find out what is holding up the production of the 09 Blasts? There should be no reason not to buy a 09? thanks, Glenn |

I'm not sure it's production, rather, availability. I *believe* the factory stocks Riders Edge before releasing Blasts to retail. |

Thanks Ratbuell. That makes sense, that's a lot of bikes for Riders Edge. This is just killing me. After two months of figuring out what bike to get, then I have to wait another two months before I can buy one. What sucks is it is going to be November and that is not exactly good riding weather in S. Louis |

Cold weather gear? I broke out my old (tuber days) cold weather Buell jacket - black textile with reflective piping on the cinch straps, and blue panels on the arm undersides, with armor. Great coat, glad it fits again I was wearing my heated jacket liner and gloves with it. Both those are HD-badged, I believe from Gerbings? I'd LOVE to see more Buell-branded stuff like this available - I would much rather have a Buell logo on the back of my hand, than a bar & shield. And, I want to keep it "in-house" as opposed to buying from Gerbings....my employee discount doesn't hurt either, lol I *am* glad to see that the other clothing lines have expanded a bit this year. Gonna have to get some more shirts for work! |

For the factory Just shy of 15K the throttle body pulley shaft broke. It broke right at the aft (closest to the front wheel) attachment point. It will take a complete throttle body intake manifold assembly (at $480) to get the bike back in service. I requested financial "consideration" through BCS (it's an 06 Ulysses I bought new) and even had the dealer's service tech speak to them but to no avail. Please explain to me why a broken throttle pulley shaft requires the entire assembly be replaced. Thanks |

Hi Court It's an 06 (3 years old) with 15K. I didn't purchase the extended warranty. I don't mind replacing parts due to normal wear and tear. This just seems to be a part that shouldn't break with normal use and shouldn't require the entire assembly replacement when it does break |

The promo was back during the spring and early summer, you needed to test ride a Buell to get one. At this point your best bet is asking around on here, someone might have an extra, or hit up ebay someone is always selling the promo goodies. |

I am a member of BMWNEF (BMW Motorcycle Owners of North East Florida) which is a club of almost 400 members. BMWNEF is a primary sponsor of Riding Into History which is an annual motorcycle charity event held at World Golf Village located between Jacksonville and St Augustine, FL. American Motorcycles are the honored make for the 2009 event. At the December club meeting, our president told us that they are working diligently to get Erik Buell to be the Guest of Honor- but not to hold our breath. If there is anyone here who has the ability to put in a good word with the right people that Erik would be graciously welcomed I would appreciate it immensely. I am entering my '08 XB12R in the Concours d'Elegance (in track-prepped condition) as a proud example of the featured mark. The dream come true would be Erik, Court, and Dave Gess all attending so I could get my bike, and my book, autographed at the same event! I'm keeping my fingers crossed... www.ridingintohistory.org |

Why doesn't the buell booth sell the buell iteams at the IMS? You wouldn't be taking sales away from the dealers bc they HD stores don't bother stocking Buell iteams. |

>>>Why doesn't the buell booth sell the buell iteams at the IMS? Violation of the dealer contract. If you were a dealer selling Buell goodies and someone moved in across the street and started selling them . . . well, you get the point. My Buell dealer, who will be at the show in New York City, has several hundred shirts and darn near anything you could want . . . IN STOCK. You can find Liberty HD/Buell online and you get a nifty discount as a Badwebber. . . . Life good, or what? |

Crackhead - what are you looking for? Send me an email, jgoetz@hdoffrederick.com. (yes...we're a sponsor) I'll be happy to get you what you need. The goal of the IMS booth is not to sell items, but to "sell Buell" - the concepts, the enthusiasm, the brand. Each show has a signboard with a map of local dealers, so once show-goers learn (from the booth personnel) how great Buell is, they can walk to the corner of the display and find the dealer closest to them. Anyone you saw selling items at IMS DC was a local vendor (Gerbing; Coleman PS with helmets and other gear; sunglass-hut type places) and not a vehicle manufacturer. I've never been to a world of wheels and bought a car.....or anything directly from a manufacturer. *Dealers* who attend, sure. But never right from the manufacturer. |

the problem is that i want to be able to try on the gear/ clothes before i buy and not have to ride 2+ hrs to get to a HD store. And when the HD store doesn't carry that much buell stuff in stock, it sucks. Annapolis has been great to stock parts for the blast (bc of the riders edge) but under 1% of the floor/display area has buell stuff. I relize that the sales for Buell are not even close to HD but if everything you want is mail order anyways, why support a HD dealer? Especialy when they try and talk you out of a XB and into a Vrod. |
