Dan, yep. Anony, The link I posted is probably just a typo'd dropped link, I just found it humorous. As far as who won the XB, I think they need to wait until all the entries are mailed in and received. I didn't go rummaging for "now shipping" news. |

I just bought a XB9R Firebolt. There was oil on the muffler. The salesperson stated that the oil was coming from the quick connectors on the oil cooler. He said this was normal and I should expect it to leak for 500 miles or so, until the O ring seated itself inside the quick connector. I rode the bike for the first time yesterday, it leaked a lot of oil, covering my left boot. Is this normal? |

Sounds like your salesman is a Harley Rider. In other words an idiot!! In answer to your question... HELL NO its not normal!! Take the bike back to the dealer and demand they fix it immediately. O-rings seal as soon as you tighten them. They do not require any kind of "break-in" How much you want to bet the oil cooler lines are installed by the dealer after they uncrate the bike!!! |

Epierce, Type that up and send a copy off to Buell Customer Service. It sounds like that dealership needs some educational services. |

If you are going to come here and bring up stuff, at least give the factory people a chance to help you by filling out a profile and listing what dealer you are talking about. Help someone help you! |

I looked up his email provider and it comes back to Kentucky someplace, at least that's where the ISP provider's address is. We can assume he's, well, hmmm, nope can't even assume that, nevermind. But if I were to assume something, I'd guess west Kentucky. http://www.mikrotec.com/ From their site: "Mikrotec Corporate History Mikrotec Internet Service began in 1994 as a Lexington - based Internet Service Provider (ISP). Mikrotec adopted a core business focus of providing high quality Internet access to central Kentucky and surrounding areas. East Kentucky Internet began in the summer of 1995, to fulfill the need for dependable Internet service in the Floyd and Pike County areas of Eastern Ky. In January of 1999 the two companies merged to become the new Mikrotec Internet Service, an affiliate of Gearheart Communications Inc., which now has local service to 57 counties in Kentucky and parts of three states. If it's northern Kentucky, near Cincinnati, and Eastgate Buell in Cincy is his dealer, I would not waste my time trying to educate them. The actual work they did on my bike was "ok", but getting them to do it was a comedy of errors, and I was flat out lied to on about a half dozen different occasions by different people. No "tech training" is going to solve that problem. I paid $100 for the upgraded front muffler mount parts (which should have been installed when they did my shock recall work) just to get out of there and never have to darken their doorstep again... |

Reepi, Your front muffler mount should have been installed for free, not $100. You should go back to that dealer and tell them you want a refund. |

Dan... I agree in theory, but I had just finished repairing a sheared exhaust header stud and went through a lot of misery, and did not want to repeat the process. I could see the bushings on the original mount were completely chewed through, and every mile was rubbing metal on metal and risking another busted stud. I knew the repair should have been done by them when they did the shock replacement, and should have been covered. I went through (literally) 6 months of lies and headaches just to get the shock covered (finally resolved by Buell customer service thankfully). To get them to cover it, I would have had to first convince them that it should have been covered, then gotten a scheduled appointment (they typically schedule 6 weeks+ out during the summer), and then brought the bike BACK in and left it for them to install. Based on my shock experience, when I brought the bike back I would have had to repeat the entire "convince them it should be covered" excercise again, and I would then find out they no longer had the mount in stock and they would hold the bike for another four weeks while they keep forgetting to order the replacement, all while assuring me daily that it is "right there on the shelf waiting, I just looked". I can work with idiots, I might manage liars, but when they are both it's just not worth the trouble... not for $100. They had the updated mount in stock, they managed to only screw up a couple things on the shock install (belt tension wrong and rear exhaust mount crossthreaded), and I could get out the door with the updated front mount in my hand for $100, and have it installed my self that afternoon, thus preventing another sheared header stud (or worse). I counted my blessings, paid the man, and escaped with my part vowing never to darken their doorstep again. Unfortunately, I consider this one a victory... |

I contacted Buell Customer Service in regards to the oil cooler leak on my XB9R. BCS stated that a service video was sent to the dealer telling them to use a small amount of grease on the quick connectors to the oil cooler and there might be a very small amount of grease drip from the connectors. But apparantly I have a oil leak and I contacted my dealer and they are going to fix it Sat. Anyone notice that the gas tank gets extremely warm, almost hot. Is this a potential problem when the ambient temp gets around 90 degrees. |

Do you mean "airbox" or "frame/fuel tank"? The Firebolt was truly baptized by fire. I understand that it underwent extensive brutal testing in the Arizona desert during peak summer heat. You should have NO worries concerning high temperature operations. |

I agree. I spent 10 days wringing out X-1's in 120oF ambient temps. Sole problem that Bret Schaller and I found was the rear wheel spinning at triple digit speeds on the tar snakes on the Interstate. Keep us posted on how the dealer handles the resolution of your oil leak/excess grease, whatever. Thanks, Court |

I suppose the picture in Battle2Win of the two fellas in the handcuffs is a good start.....but just scratched the surface. Hehehehehe.....I even got a picture of the X-1 that Dave Elshoff from Harley-Davidson tried to hide. Me?...scare you?.....as if! Court |

Frame/Fuel tank. I also contacted a buddy of mine and he said I had nothing to worry about regarding the frame/fuel tank getting too hot. I took the XB9R to my dealer today (220 mile round trip). The first thing from three service techs was "according to Buell its suppose to leak for the first 500 miles". We got past that and they decided that the bike was leaking oil and it should not do that. They took the oil lines off and wrapped them in tape. The lines still leaked. The service mgr. said I could pay for overnight shipment or wait two weeks. I opted for overnight delivery. I'm patiently waiting for my XB9R Firebolt to be repaired and returned to me. Thanks for all the support and advise. I know I will enjoy the bike once this small problem is solved. |

Epierce, I can't believe after you shelled out $10,000+ for a Bolt the dealer wouldn't even pay for the overnight shipping! You really need to find another dealer! A few come to mind right off the bat... Modesto, Topeka, Dallas, Austin. I hope that your problem is fixed now. |

Epierce, Where are you located, So I can steer clear of that dealer. I allready ride 80 miles each way so I don't have to deal with my local dealer (who were not interested in selling me a bike). |

OK since the FACTORY is supposed to look at this website for help with the bikes. I have some ideas: First, For the love of god can you fix the foot pegs on the blast. I know that you are all busy with the new firebolt but surly you can take the time and come up with a better design? Go ahead and raise the price $50.00 for the fix on the bike. IT has been 3 years and you still can't get it right! Shoot whoever made that design, why did you not just keep with what was working on the other line. Second, Fix the tall seat. Or give us a third seat option. Everyone complains about how soft it is. It is hurting are asses. Stiffen it up.. Not everyone in the really world weighs 150 pds. Third, Suspenion needs a big fix. Give us at least preload or something. Spring kits anything.. This is a good bike and not everyone who buys one is new to motorcycling. You have a great bike to start with just fix the problems everyone complains about and you will sell more of them. Raise the price if you have to cover the cost of R&D tooling. And if you are really smart give us options or kits to buy like....Tac. kit, engine kits, suspenion kits. Or finally give us the SUPER single that you have been working on for the last 3 years. The bike is so cheap to start with that anyone who owns one will spend the money to hop it up. But first FIX the footpegs.... |

RD350 So are you trying to say you don't like the footpegs or that you can't find an acceptable aftermarket to replace them with for $50.00? Arvel |

Arvel, there is not a company in the world that makes foot pegs that will go on the stock mounts. The system is ass backwords from the other Buell line up. The design is the poorest I have ever seen. Hell, the pegs are help together with cotter pins that must of cost a whole .10 cents. Even when the bikes are brand new sitting in the show room floor they are already showing droppy pegs. Buell you should be ashamed of yourself for letting this go on for three years running. |

RD350 I agree with you 100%. If BMC were smart they would see this as an opertunity to sell the whole range of goodies. It would appear there are many Blast owners who would jump at the chance to purchase these products. Scot |

Picked up my firebolt on Thursday. The front oil line was leaking. The mechanic said it was leaking where it had been crimped for the fitting. The turn around was great. Left the bike on Sat., parts ordered from Buell on Mon., and I picked the bike up on Thursday. By the way, the factory took care of the shipment, which was a pleasant surprise. Thanks again for the technical support. I am looking forward to riding one of the newest innovations in sport bike technology. I hope you guys have a great summer filled with many twisties and good times. |

i have a "dealer-not-stocking-story"...couple of weeks ago my voltage regulator puked...second one in three years and the last one was one week shy of a year old. of course the dealer doesn't have one(?) in stock so they order one..."it'll be here by the end of the week, we'll call ya". Six days later, no call so I call them. "is it in yet"?....."no, we'll call".....three more days...no call, so i call back...."what was your name again?...oh, its in 'packing status', it should be shipped out to us by today or tomorrow, we'll call you...sorry for the incon.../click/"...so a dude on the ATC board refers me to Crane Cams. Their voltage regulator, the Fireball, is built much better and has a built in battery tender you can plug in when storing the bike...$199.00 retail (check your J&P catalog), but through Cranes web site only $75.00......WOW!... So i ordered one, two days later at my door and twenty minutes after that.... the bikes back in action!!!!!!! Now, three weeks later....still no call from the dealer. llamacide |

After reading some of the horror stories written in this section, I feel extremely lucky to have found a dealership that knows what customer service and standing behind a product really is. Pierce H/D, in DeKalb Il., is just such a dealership. I feel as af I really a member of the family. Although not a full fledged Buell dealership, their tech Rich has gone though the classes and is very knowledgable. If any of you fellow Buelligans are ever in DeKalb, look them up. For any of you factory people reading this, this is no fluff story, these people believe in the words "Customer Service". Blake Mathison |

To the person responsible for export markets. My name is Ross Northwood,I ordered an XB9R from Morgan And Wacker last July. I have been waiting patiently for a delivery date knowing that production has begun.Last Friday I phoned to enquire how the order was progressing. I was informed that a container of bikes was to arrive within the next 2 weeks however my bike was not amongst them. How can this be so? According to Morgan and Wacker, my order was first one, and now they cannot tell me when I will take delivery.Could you please check the inventory list to see if a white with blue trim is in the system for me. Let them know so as I can be informed. Thank You . |

Has anyone else had a problem with the oil lines leaking coming out of the oil cooler on their Firebolt? They had to replace one as soon as I got my bolt, and now the new line is leaking. I have 345 miles on the Firebolt. This time it is leaking at the other end. The first one was leaking at the oil cooler. Bought a bolt and bought my wife a blast, they are both at the dealer, the blast needs a stater, (the battery would discharge afer a short ride and I would have to push her off to get it started.) They did not have the gasket needed to put the cover back on after replacing the stater. |

Dear friends, I don't know if it's the best place in the BWB board to post this, but a good friend of mine is now selling his 00 M2 after a pretty bad experience of it in terms of reliability and in terms of Buell customer service in France. He wrote a letter to Buell-France on that matter. I've forwarded this letter to Deanne Matthews in East Troy but I don't know if she received it. Anyway, here it is : To Ms Caroline de POMMERY BUELL France customer service Ms de Pommery, I am the owner of a Buell 1200 M2 Cyclone bought new at Planet’Harley (38) on 06/04/2001. This dealer has closed his store since- . I have sollicitated the Buell warranty three times: · the first time during the 1000 km service, for the exchange of the rear shock (according the Buell service note B-033A of 4 december 2000 following the service bulletin 0820). At the same time, the engine front support was repaired under warranty (broken screw in the cylinder head). · The second time on August 2001, at the start of my biker vacations. Front pulley retaining screw unscrewed and consecutive damages. Very good customer service and assistance from Harley, but with the bike stored for three weeks at the dealer store because no pulley available through Buell-Europe (OK, vacation time...). At the end of fall 2001, one of the two fork seals started to badly leak. As my Buell had 7500 km on the clock, as the mountain roads where I live are unrideable until April, and as the nearest Buell dealer is at 150 km from my house (Spirit of Eagle at Seynod, 74), I've waited until June (05/06/2002) and the 8000 km service to bring my Buell for repair. Three days before the planned rendez-vous, on a straight road without stress on the bike, the belt broke. I've asked for an exceptional warranty cover (although the official one-year warranty ended on 6 April 2002) or a partial financial support from the Buell dealer, but I was told that it was impossible in both cases : the warranty was expired, the fork seals are replaceable parts, the belt which broke because of a small gravel having glued itself into the rear pulley was not covered under warranty in such situation, and Buell France would not accept such exceptional cover. I have thus paid 558 Euros (fork seal, belt, mechanic time,... I don't take into account the fees to bring the bike to the dealer, fuel, highway tole,...). This adventure brings in my mind several remarks: It seems strange to me that fork seals get destroyed after less than 8000 km after a normal use of the bike and dedicated servicing. Is a belt fragile enough so that it could break because of a gravel inside the rear pulley ? The belt breakage happened at 30 km/h on a mountain road: nothing serious. What would have happened if this took place at high speed on a highway? Is a Buell owner supposed to keep his Buell in his garage when gravels are on the road during spring road maintenance, implying an exclusive use of a Buell on clean roads or on a racetrack ? Is the Buell dealer able to decide by himself if the warranty can be applied or not, without referring it to Buell-France, even though the warranty limit has been reached since two months ? The Buell motorcycle presents a very limited reliability, to which I am used in principle as I have owned several Italian motorcycles. This lack of reliability could be fine with me according to the pleasure provided by the Buell. Unfortunately, the conditions into which Buell dealers follow this lack of reliability are not in agreement with my budget possibilities. My Buell is thus for sale by now. I thank you again for your assistance in August 2001 and I am convinced that the Buell is the best motorcycle that I have ridden so far, after having owned 12 European motorcycles "with character" over the last 30 years. I hope that these feelings could be helpful for the coming development of the Buell trademark in France. With my best motorcyclist regards, Pierre Sigayret |
