I summed up my thoughts and observations on the XB9R page.......don't get all up in a snit......I just think there are some really exciting and good times ahead for Buell. Not just a rah-rah thing, but I am seeing the types of behavior that precede good things. Court (I will dance it threatened!) |

CONGRATULATIONS to all the people up in Wisconsin who've worked their butts off to see the events of today transpire. I hope it's a big success. Y'all are doing a terrific job, keep up the good work. AW |

O.K. Guys I need help (no not that kind of help) I was at Morgan And Wackers last Wednesday to catch up with Neil on the progress with my XB9R.And they do not have any idea if when maybe I will see my bike. So if anybody within the Factory who does know whatever whenever could they email Eddie Todd at Morgan And Wacker to enlighten me on the progress. I do not want direct contact with me and put their job in jepardy. Just follow the channels .I do know that it takes about 60/70 days to ship from Factory to dealers door.Help me PLEASE. |

(ADMIN NOTE: I have been sent this e-mail from a dealer who wished to remain anonymous and was unable to post here. Posted w/o comment) For The Factory: Does the "factory" know that I have waited five weeks for an M2 clutch cable (order verified today) and the only answer I got today was "it's on back order"? Sometimes it seems like someone is holding a black cloud over the Buell Motor Company. FYI only, don't reply! |

My question is does that same dealer know that had he "maintained" a reasonable parts inventory, he would have that clutch cable in stock and would be not really worried about a back order? When you use the factory for warehousing, sometimes you get bit by back order timing. The last 5 went to a dealer who STOCKS PARTS! |

I have a question. Why would a dealer want to keep parts in stock for a line of bikes that are no longer made? Are you going to produce something besides the blast and firebolt? If so, would they use some of the same parts as the old tube frame bikes? If not, and I was a dealer, my stocking level on parts for the discontinued bikes would be very short indeed. I cannot see the company surviving on 2 models of motorcycles but your silence on any future plans to stay in business is very confusing unless you have nothing to say thats good. Two bikes does not a motorcycle company make. |

Memo to the dealer that doesn't see a need to stock parts for a discontinued model: My other 2 bikes are BMW airheads, discontinued also and the newest is 10 years old. I make regular trips to a dealer 100 miles away because he stocks parts. He has probably made more profit selling me parts and service over the years than was made selling the bikes to me originally. My Buell will probably last at least a couple decades, through good times and bad. Will your dealership? BuellGrrrl |

I'm with you on this one Charlotte, I can still get parts for a 1976 Yamaha 650 with very little effort. Honda goes even farther back. BTW, How you liking your M2L? Neat smile generator huh? Brad |

Anonymous: Excellent question about the dealers inventory. In 1997 we prepared a "suggested inventory level" for Buell dealers. There were 3 levels (A, B & C) based on Buell sales over the prior years and projected need for replacement parts. The items included in the list were based on "velocity" (i.e. the number of parts sold) and I as I recall the highest was some $0.27 gasket or something. My point is that the ENTIRE list, totaled something like $1,100 at dealer cost and there were no takers for the idea. I could not agree with you more that one of the greatest ways to elicit a customers business is to satisfy needs. When I need parts now I don't waste my valuable time locally. I call Topeka, KS, Modesto, CA or Tat & Family at ASB. Without exception I know I will have my parts (even if they have to come off a bike) as quickly as possible. I say again...take a gander at "The Customer Revloution" by Patricia Seybold. It's a whole new world boys and girls..... Court |

Heres a great Modesto Story: Last weekend sometime during my ride to Phoenix the locknut on my rear shock came loose. As it rattled around it rounded the threads that I was unable to screw it back on. Called Deanna at Modesto. Asked if it was a part I could order. She informed me that it wasn't but she would check to see if they could get one somehow. Well the next day I have an overnight package waiting for me with a locknut inside!!! I think they might have taken it off a brand new shock because it is obviously a new part!! NOW THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! |

And...may I hsaten to point out, it's a DAMN GOOD way to do business. There are Buell owners who LOOK for things to buy from places that offer good service. The last time the season got slow between model years and Tat ran a special I stocked up. I have several boxes of stuff in the Buell basement awaiting installtion. When a vendor SERVES a customer and creates a situation where it is plesant to do business everyone wins. The folks are Modesto have my undying admiration and I certainly hope a ton of business from this group. Thanks for sharing.....need a better story? Remind me to tell you what Erik Buell did for a Buell customer a couple years ago. Court |

When I wrecked up on Mt. Evans at last years Colorado event, Danny at Modesto bent over backwards to get me the parts I needed to reassemble my bike the next day for the trip back home. His services included personally delivering the parts to the fedex office to ensure they would make the saturday delivery, and finding parts at other dealers that Modesto didn't have. He found the fairing spyder that I needed at a dealer in Michigan. When I called them, they really couldn't have given a damn about my problem. They had the fairing spyder, but had no clue how to fedex anything and had no interest in learning how. It was an amazing contrast in dealer service. I honestly don't know how the bad ones stay in business. I ended up JB-welding the fairing spyder back together. It has been on the bike until Tuesday of this week, cracked but working just fine with a little bit more mirror wiggle. Gotta get it right for the upcomng california ride.... Al |

Modesto Buell has been very good to my wife (blast) and I (M2). I was ready to sell my M2 two years ago then Don and Deanna came along. These folks know there stuff and are more than willing to do anything to keep there customers happy and you bike running correctly...I recommend to call them first no matter where you live. Give these great folks your business..They make it happen. |

A quote I read last week on a workshop wall. "It is impossible to fall flat on your face whilst bending over backwards looking after the customer" |

Dealers not stocking parts for current or old bikes: The reason it would make *very* good sense for a dealer to keep parts in stock is, that I'd be stopping by his shop every now and then. That would give my dealer the opportunity to: 1) make me realize that this dealer cares about me as a customer and about the bike I'm riding. 2) show me the new bikes on the floor - and since I already, from my previous visits, know he's a good dealer (we're talking ideal situation here), I just may buy my next bike from him. How can this be so difficult to understand? As it is now, I buy my parts via mail order from a few businesses that have shown an interest and proven their integrity and commitment. I do the majority of my own wrenching and for the few warranty issues I've been through, I see Dr. Gadget - a Buell owner and true Buell enthusiast. In this scenario - when do you think a dealer will have a chance to "impress" me, show me bikes, accessories or anything else that would give him a chance to make money off of me? Wouldn't you think a dealer would be interested in changing/improving this relationship? I guess not Henrik |

Case in point: Looking for a throttle cable to replace the broken barrel adjuster on the '00 M2 that was missed by the repairing dealership. Dealer one visited in person during lunch: "... Got one?" "Nope, have to order it, 3 days or so." "Bye." Dealer two called that afternoon: "... Got one?" "Nope." "Bye." Dealer three called same afternoon: "... Got one?" "Let me check, ... , yep, I'll put in on hold for you Mike." "Thanks, be there tomorrow to get it." |
