Loki, WI shares points with Michigan and Illinois as long as I can remember. You get a ticket in any of those 3 states at least, it goes on your license if you live in any of those 3 states. | ||

Got a ticket in Atlanta 85 in •••• zone. Average speeds within the city's freeway system is at lesat 70. That day a pushed the throttle a little too much. $530 plus some points. My 3rd in a series over the years. Had been clean at the time. | ||

I got nabbed in Charleston, SC when I pulled up next to an unmarked Camaro on the interstate...man did I feel like a fool. He said he was doing 75 and I caught him, so...he gave me a ticker for doing 75 in a fifty-five. Went to court...$90 and some points. | ||

Dave talk to a lawyer, they can get that moved to a non moving, not sure how but they can. But the kicker is the price is usually twice the cost of the ticket. Kcfirebolt, the law has changed in Kansas you can no longer pay twice the cost and get it reduced to a non moving, you have to pay a lawyer to go to court for you now, if you don't then they will not reduce the ticket. Talk about being extorted. | ||

Last ticket I got was about a year and a half ago. I was on my way to Reno on the 80 one morning. Late for a meeting. The "company" car I was in is governed to 105(as alot of cars are), so that is what I was doing. I knew I shoulda slowed down near Truckee(there's a CHP station there). A cop was coming on the onramp. I was a good mile down the road before I saw his lights. He gave me a ticket for 73 in a 65, and I did traffic school. I've been pulled over 12 times in California(in 8 years), it has (interestingly enough) always been in a car, and only been ticketed twice, both times I was in excess of 100. The first time I was tracked by a plane. I got a ticket for 85 in a 70, and did traffic school.  | ||

Dave, I agree...that is totally jacked. How the hell can being alert (supposedly) and going fast be as bad as being drunk and going any speed at all. DUI apparently has several meanings...Driving Under Influence, Dumb Unrealistic Infraction, etc... Personally I don't drink that much and really have a problem with one who drives after drinking. Going fast well that is another story...like my dad said...All you have to do is miss! If you don't scrape paint then you don't have a problem. | ||

Dave, What do you think it would have cost us on the PDC ride last summer when we met the trooper while doing 115 right after passing several cars? Luckily he had just come over a hill and most Iowa troopers don't drive with their radars transmitting. We slowed down a bit after that. | ||

Wow...The Nazi's would have loved to get the revenue from that ride. LOL The worst part about it is once an area gets known for the number of tickets it generates, it becomes a high enforcement zone and nobody lives free anymore. That is one of the reasons why you don't find sport riders riding in large groups around here and you seldom see them wicking it up in the straights as that's where the radar is. Please be advised that the location selected for the Homecoming this year is in a high enforcement zone and you can expect the Nazi's to be out in full force in the fun riding areas from Road America all the way down to I-94 (Heartland/Oconomowoc area). Additionally, be advised that the residents around the Holy Hill area are virtually all upper class commuters with stay-at-home Mom's. They love the sanctity of their environment as well as the safety of their children and don't hesitate calling the police to report reckless riders/drivers. When that happens, the responding cops enter the area from multiple directions, usually the best riding routes, and there is little chance of escape. So, now you can't say you weren't warned. | ||

Whoops...Forgot to mention that the Highway Patrol uses both Radar (stationary and all direction mobile) and Laser. They also employ a fleet of unmarked vehicles ranging from salesmen's and sports sedans to beater trucks and SUV's. All of which have concealed christmas trees. In summary, you had best learn how to spot them from a distance if you are into going faster than the flow of traffic. One of the things we make a practice of in Wisconsin, at least on the interstates, is to cruise until a few Fast Boys from Illinois whiz by and then follow at a safe distance. In essence, we use them as Bear Bait.  | ||

In most states that i`m aware of driving 25mph over the limit and you can have your license suspended, even if its your first offense. Its up to the judge to determine that. As far as speeding 20mph over the limit being the same as a DUI, they might be similar as far as points on your license. But that is where the similarities end. DUI is a misd. crime that you get arrested for, possibly go to jail for up to a year, loss of license for up to two years, ontop of all kinds of fines, lawyer fees, crazy insurance costs, and restrictions. All totaled i`ve seen DUI cost around $10,000 when all is said and done. Going 20 mph over the limit is a speeding ticket, fine, and points on your license(which can be removed with a safe driving class). When you look at them both, really not even close to the same thing. | ||

With that said, it still sucks to get speeding tickets. Best advice fight the ticket, maybe the cop made a mistake on the ticket, the judge could reduce the speed and or fine, or the cop not show up for court. Goodluck | ||

Thats funny Outrider, I was going back and forth from Cincinnati to Waukesha on business a couple years back, and that is EXACTLY what I would do. Find somebody with IL tags, and pace them about a quarter mile back. Never took long to find one. | ||

He said he was doing 75 and I caught him I would have asked the cop to explain to the judge why he was speeding? If he was in dire need to drive 20 over the limit, he shouldn't have had the time to ticket you. I had a cop get close behind me in the HOV lane on my way to work last year, I let him pass. He proceeded to do 75 in a 45. I got right on his tail also doing 75 till I had to turn. I was pushing my luck to see what he'd do. I wanted to have him explain to me why he gets to tail gate, drive aggressively, and speed without his flashers on. He couldn't have been responding to a call, because he crossed the Denver/Englewood line and was out of his jurisdiction. I have a small problem with authority, especially with those that abuse it. Would have been well worth a court appearance for me. | ||

Reep...I learned that trick the hard way. I used to be Wisconsin's Resident Bear Bait when I was a kid. Thank God I got drafted before I lost my license. Am much older and wiser now. |
